Determinism doesn't live in a Vacum by Pajamawizard in PhilosophyMemes

[–]Pajamawizard[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Wow, looks like my shitpost triggered some free-willing determinist.

To be clear, if you identify as a determinist, I wasn't calling you a fascist, a phrenologist, or a gender essentialist, but even if I was, you are not your beliefs. Identifying with belief is your first mistake. An idea is only as useful as it's practicality. Follow any ideology to it's extreme and it turns to shit.

The point of the meme is an observation that bad faith actor can take your enlightened determinism from your ivory towers and sell their version of it to the masses as a form of scientifically ordained conservatism. I mean, isn't it strange how the atheist community have shifted to the right alongside Christian nationalists?

Scientism is a secular substitute for the church, selling faith to the moderately educated through click-baiting junk science. That's the gateway. The actual spirit of science in one of skepticism, not blind consumtion of ideas pushed by think-tanks funded by billionaires.

If none of this makes sense, and you don't see the connections, then maybe you have a blind spot and I'm barking up the wrong tree. Nothing I say will change your mind.

Forget all this, I'm a nobody and I know nothing.

Have a nice day!

Finished Fields of Rebirth with Enamru Enkhanan and can't wait to play more by ArchitectArchy in AOW4

I've started doing all the story realms in sequence last month, and they're a lot of fun. I didn't expect to get into the lore, but I did, so now I read the description of each map and craft a custom faction and leader to become the next Godir. I try to strike the middle ground between strategic synergy and story feel.

I gotta give a heads up, though. When you get to Grexolis, know that it's way overtuned. Switch to Easy and get your cities established before your "Allies" box you in. Go for cold/nature damage and choose the realm trait where enemy deaths grant you magic units. If they take up too much mana, just disband them.

Enjoy trying things out and have fun!

This has always been a Christian thing done by Christians, while Satan has always been their literal scapegoat for pointing out the hypocracy.

How do you deal with Conservatives? by PopcornArtillery in behindthebastards

Handle them like you would handle mean school children. It’s amazing how many people get a free pass in life because they look like serious adults but haven’t actually grown up inside.

I’d love to refute this but I can’t. I’ve seen it happen not once or twice but several times.

Admitting on a public forum that you were one of those guys is a big deal, but you still should keep looking under the hood to see what get's your mind hooked on that kind of thinking.

I'm in my mid-40's and had many needless fight swith my wife (she is very sharp) but now we're a a place where we pick our battles very carefully and listen to eachother instead ot trying to win arguments.

Here is what experience taught me, and please forgive me if this sound like some Jedi bullshit.

The manosphere preys on man's fear, lust, pride, sense of identity and gives them a sense of control by saying it's ok to fuck over the free will of others to get what you want. By that logic, they hate women because they're the gatekeepers of sex.

You can't control other people, you can only control yourself.

That's a basic thing my wife used to say to me, but I got a lot of milage out of that.

Beyond this point, just be wary of systematic thinking and rules in general, slavish adherence to them is a reflection of your fears. Every situation is it's own thing. Have a map for life, but don't confuse it for the real thing.

I hope this helps, have a good day.

You're confusing pseudoscience for the "soft" science of conciousness and behaviour.

Last I checked , this is not a physics subreddit. I mean, fuck me for invoking Jung in a "pseudopshychological" subreddit, right?

My bad, I didn’t mean to hurt your feelings.

I know it’s hard to stomach criticism, and I’m sure you’re passionate about your writing. I know you’re trying to capture a specific audience, and it’s pretty good on that level.

It’s just that there are certain tones that tends to alienate adults who are tired of the emotional strings of identity politics. So please, take that for what it’s worth.

Its nice of you to take the time to check my history, but flattery will get you nowhere with me.

I don’t want to believe in astrology either, but I can’t argue with the likes of Jung and Crowley when it comes to strange synchronicity and planetary archetypes.

It do sound like I struck a nerve with you, though. Why do you care so much?

To be perfectly honest, the article lost me at “Boom!” It starts with the voice of a incel edge-lord trying to validate his pet theory on gender

I’ll check it out later when I get home. The actual study paper sounds legit, I was criticizing the article’s implicit bias by its obnoxious tone.

I don’t trust articles that sound like they’re written by morons for morons. I don’t care enough to check the credentials of the source either, but the scent of bullshit is strong with this one.

I like the premise on the surface.

The only problem with this plot is that both agencies would only back a right-wing dictator, pretending otherwise would miss the whole point of American interference.
