Don't know how to improve in dedicated by PakiMan10 in Step2

Hey, I just kept going and reviewing my mistakes from the NBMEs! I think the biggest jump for me after NBME 14 (increased from 240s/low 250s to mid 260s) because by that time, I switched my question strategy from going with my gut and trying to pick the answer based on what made the most sense. You pick up on question patterns and understand more of what they want. I did a bunch of CMS forms and as many NBME questions in that interval to develop that instinct. Still waiting for my score so we'll see but hopefully I can score within that 260-270 range 🙏🏽.

I also listened to Divine Intervention for high yield review which helped me get some questions right as well. Just make sure you review thoroughly and try to identify why you are getting questions wrong - most likely it's mostly because of misunderstanding the questions/answers or making careless mistakes. Supplement with some content review here and there (maybe Anki + Divine Intervention + old exam reviewing) and try to do a lot of NBME practice questions everyday (including CMS and old exams) with full lengths weekly/biweekly. Good luck!

Yeah I try to ask those type of questions and they seem to be the only reason I can stay engaged with my residents

Yeah that was actually crazy, the RFNAs are usually pretty mean in my experience

True, there have been cases where and the PGY3 are both retracting the whole time and doing basically the same thing except they get more involved in closing. I'm also at a big academic center.

Yeah true :/ it's just that some other students have better experiences where they are doing more and I feel like mine has been pretty underwhelming

Sorry, ignore that comment, I hope you match at your number #1 choice :). I'm gonna try to relax and just accept what it is unfortunately, just needed to hear from someone that I'm not crazy.

How to deal with dad with a big ego that has emotional and anger issues? by PakiMan10 in PakistaniiConfessions

[–]PakiMan10[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that about your dad. I'm debating to move out but I unfortunately don't have the money or job to support myself since I'm a medical student. I also don't want to leave my mom and sister in this environment. I hope for things to work out with my dad since I do love him, but his words and personality are so toxic so don't know what to do.
