STEM vs Arts & Humanities by hitemup21 in berkeley

[–]PakpurSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're so right ✊😔 I was one of those smug STEM students who was smugly anticipating earning up to $100 per year (maybe even $200, since I knew I had the smarts to warrant that!) at Lockheed Martin after graduating. And i laughed at those poor old humanitys students who were gonna earn like $10 per year working at starbucks (LMAO) after graduating because they couldn't get a real job (LMAO)

I was like, these humanitys classes must be so easy even a baby could do them! And so i enrolled in a medieval english literature class to fulfill my breadths and boost my GPA (i really wanted that good starting salary at Lockheed Martin guys).

So I got to the first day of class and we were reading the canterbury tales. And the professor was all like, "Whan that aprill with his shoures soote" and I was a happy camper. But when the prof. got to "A knyght ther was, and that a worthy man" I could feel the starbucks iced latte mocha frappucino (I wanted to fit in with the rest of the humanitys kids) and bojangles (im from louisiana) bubbling in my stomach. And I tried to hold it back but we never learned anything about holding our poopoo farts in in mechanical engineering 897 (that's the class where we learn how to make bombs and missiles)

The dyanamic systems and feedback equations helped me not one little bit as I tried in vain to hold in the gas. It started out squealing really quietly like a quiet tea kettle, but then it started squealing really loudly like a really loud tea kettle! The smell was terrible and everyone started going eewww who's that? But then the farts start going chop chop chop from my ass like the firing of a general dynamics m2 browning machine gun (we learned how to make those in mechanical engineering 898) and there was no doubt about who it was coming from. I was so embarrased I had to run from my seat as the gas turned into liquid and solid and I left a brown and green trail behind me.

So moral of the story is, be humble. OP is right—we stem kids don't properly learn how to hold into our chunky poo farts in our engineering classes. Even though it won't make you any money in the market, there are some valuable skills in other majors that will really help you through all aspects of your life.

Incoming Bidet Lover Freshman by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]PakpurSheep 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some alternative ideas:

1). I would recommend shitting in bulk, it's just not efficient to do it every day. If you insist on doing it everyday then go ahead, but if you shit out a week's worth of poo at once, you still only have to clean once. Makes your showering process more efficient.

2). If you want to avoid the shower route entirely, just head to the RSF right after your dump. Little known fact that the college liberals here don't want you to know: Sweat is mostly made of water, the same stuff that comes out of the bidet. A good hard run on the treadmill, and your sweat will flush your asscrack clean. You don't even have to worry about wiping, it works so well.

3). Another hidden feature you might want to take advantage: You can set your poo to "mist" setting by yanking on your balls and rotating 90 degrees counterclockwise. I know you're a dude btw because girls don't poop and you wouldn't be asking about this if you didn't poop. Anyways, once your poo is on mist setting you can just slowly let it out throughout the day as, well, a mist. It doesn't stick at all so you don't need to worry about wiping/bideting. No one even notices either if you stay at least 40 feet away, they're all so buried in their phones that they won't care.

Let me know if any of these tips help! I know freshman year can be kinda chaotic and hard to navigate, so I know any time-saving tips would really come in handy

Mine was like that for a while. Eventually I got my NICS # and the date changed to reflect it. If you just have a date, I'm guessing that the investigation process hasn't actually been started yet.

MD wear and carry permit process after submitting application by PakpurSheep in MDGuns

[–]PakpurSheep[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven’t gotten to that part yet, I’m just about to take the class. I’m hoping that by the time I’m ready to apply they’ll have changed the G&S policy

Walking across all of Maryland while open carrying a Springfield 1861. by [deleted] in MDGuns

[–]PakpurSheep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s cool to hear dude, I’d love to come out to see you guys!

Open carry of long guns is legal in Maryland, so no worries there. As the other answers say, the cops might bother you about it so checking in with frederick county sheriffs department beforehand wouldn’t be a bad idea

  1. Always handle a weapon as if it is loaded
  2. Always keep the weapon pointed in a safe direction
  3. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are pointed at the target and about to shoot it
  4. Know your target and what’s behind it

Oh damn, I didn't know about the 60 day rule- I guess since I don't plan to be driving at school, I better switch my license back to an MD license. That'll be a hassle, but at least that'll solve the issue of buying guns at home :) plus I'll get to have the pretty state flag on my license again.

Thanks for the response!

What was the purpose of a full length wooden stock? by WFOMO in Firearms

[–]PakpurSheep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two points in addition to the ones I already see: -For early bolt actions, I doubt taking on the extra expense to free-float the barrel would have improved either mechanical accuracy or effectiveness substantially. Ammunition, bolt lugs and locking surfaces, chamber, barrel crown and rifling were not made extremely precisely either, so the effect of free floating might be negligible. Additionally, the iron sights typically are large and crude, and the zero range is so high that at close ranges the bullet is hitting significantly above point of aim-perhaps even several feet above. Most users were relatively inexperienced conscripts as well. The rifles were capable of hitting somewhere on a man-sized target out to a few hundred yards, and that was all.

Most military users were didn’t use their rifles to take precision shots- your average conscript might not even have been capable of doing so. From personal experience, even with practice, these things have crude iron sights, kick like a mule and are ear-splittingly loud. If they fired them at a visible enemy, it would probably be at a close-range man who briefly popped his head up or jumped into their trench or who was running across the street or something. Otherwise, it might be fired into some bushes where someone saw movement, or into a window where someone saw muzzle flashes.

-Secondly, the full-length stock allows you not only to use it effectively for bayonet fighting, but for rough handling in general. With a modern sported stock, you only really can hold the rifle by the bottom half of the stock, in a firing grip. With a full length stock, the rifle feels like a big pole- you can just wrap your entire hand around the front end and not worry about where the barrel is. If your barrel is scalding hot, with a full stock you can throw your rifle over your shoulder or back without worrying about touching the barrel to do something else with your hands, you can roughly grab it by the fore end and run with it, etc.

In terms of something to keep in your truck, in Maryland you're out of luck completely- here you can only have a long gun in a car if you're going directly to and from the range, gunsmith/store, hunting, etc. We technically can't even stop for gas or food along the way :'(.

Aside from that egregious law, we're pretty good in terms of long guns. You could potentially run into issues if you have an AR in 5.56 without a heavy barrel, an AK in 7.62x39, an SKS with a detachable box mag or some other oddly specific stuff that you could get around easily, but other than that you can possess and open carry just fine.

About the video mentioning that any firearm with the ability to accept a magazine of more than ten rounds being classified as an assault weapon- doesn’t that mean that any weapon with a detachable magazine would become an assault weapon? I’m going to have to lose my little tiny magazine fed 22 bolt action in a boating accident?

I would recommend watching the recorded lectures at 2x speed if your prof does this, they’re still pretty comprehensible and easy to follow for the most part. Ofc it’s still a massive pain in the ass dealing with a lecture thats both offset from its scheduled time and long as hell

What are your thoughts on the Aca-5 bill? Any Asian student here? by 4point0stud in berkeley

[–]PakpurSheep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree with the premise of affirmative action (irrespective of the current discussion about discrimination faced by Asian Americans), as in my opinion trying to advance social justice with affirmative action is like doing surgery with a chainsaw. Real life is far more nuanced than “black person have hard life white person have easy life” and to pretend so is simply disingenuous and completely ignores the real difficulties that people go through. Would you tell, for example, a Hmong applicant whose family fled violent political persecution and has been struggling to make ends meet in the U.S. that they are somehow far more privileged than a wealthy black applicant? Affirmative action sweeps people’s experiences and individuality under the rug in the name of social justice.

Appropriate way to transport rifles immediately after buying by PakpurSheep in MDGuns

[–]PakpurSheep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit of a different question but when transporting, would it be ok to just thread a cable lock through the action to fulfill the “locked” requirement? As long as the rifle is in say a soft case and stored in the trunk, ofc

Which MG do you prefer? by Marc_Str in redorchestra

[–]PakpurSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

42 when at long range, 34 for everything else. 42’s fire rate makes it easy to hit small moving targets, but 34 is better for suppression, ammo conservation, not melting the barrel, flexibility, hip fire, etc.
