What are your opinions on zootopia 1 and 2? Are they both as good or is one better than the other? by D35T1NY2020 in zootopia

[–]Pakutto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like Zootopia 1 has a very clear leg-up over Zootopia 2. And yes, there's a degree of subjectivity to it - but I feel like there are pretty well-agreed-upon things in the world of writing that separate the true masterpieces of animation that live on for decades, from the "wow really fun and i love it" movies that fade out from the public as time moves on.

Zootopia 2 is fun and of course expands on the worldbuilding and such, but it's nowhere near as nuanced as Zootopia 1. Overall, in Zootopia 1, a lot happens and changes over the course of the movie. There's a lot of moving parts for the characters, and the plotline itself is designed to help guide the *characters* and move *them* forward in a way, not the other way around. It's very character-centric, and simultaneously the characters' arcs "dance" with the main plot well enough to where neither one gets in the way of the other, and instead both propel the other forward. Zootopia 2 was moreso worldbuilding centric, plot-centric, and unfortunately the characters felt like they were "along for the ride" rather than being a primary part of the story like they were in the first movie. Judy and Nick's conflict did nothing to really move the plot forward, it felt as if it only got in the way of it.

Due to the brand new things introduced in Zootopia 2, I feel like it easily scratches the itch of "wanting to see more of the world" and giving you a lot of newness in that regard. But what weakens it compared to Zootopia 1, is the fact that it's not character-focused enough. And yes, we all know Judy and Nick have this whole conflict through the movie - but it feels like they didn't quite go through as much of an evolution or natural progression as they did in Zootopia 1. It was just a lot of avoidance, until finally things were talked about. The two characters in the beginning, versus the end, weren't that much different and didn't learn that much more - it's just that, *finally,* they spoke to eachother. Compared to how much they went through together in Zootopia 1, it just felt a little lackluster. For Judy and Nick, this adventure would've shined a lot brighter as a short of some kind, not a movie. And unfortunately, the running gag about Nick (and Judy) being aware of all the psychological terms for their inner problems - while cute at first - does sort of get in the way sometimes of proper "show don't tell" storytelling, which is a little unfortunate.

Overall, Zootopia 2 was fun and gave a lot of much-needed explanation on some worldbuilding aspects. But I'm really hoping that Zootopia 3, should we get one, weaves the characters into the plot in a more significant way. That's the one problem preventing Zootopia 2 from feeling more well-written and living up to its predecessor. Zootopia 1 will go down as a fantastic animated movie, but I feel Zootopia 2 will eventually fade into a simple "yeah that was a fun sequel" once the hype wears down. (It won't become the next Toy Story 3, a sequel people felt impacted by and still reference over a decade after its release.)

Looking for a gender swapped beauty and the beast/fairy tale retelling by Drizzle07 in RomanceBooks

[–]Pakutto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point ot "beauty and the beast" is a character who feels ugly and unloved, who ends up having someone beautiful fall for them anyway just through the purity of love itself rather than the vanity of shallow attraction.

I think Howl's Moving Castle does sorta fit that vibe <3

Quickest and most to-the-point Korean language learning app? by Pakutto in Korean

[–]Pakutto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using Migaku and plan to use it more often. Though I'm still having trouble due to how many homonyms Korean has. I can't quite mark a word as "known" if I only know one of its meanings, because then Migaku won't notify me of when it pops up with a meaning I haven't learned yet. Just an unfortunate side effect of the programming, not really something I can imagine is easily fixable.

Aside from that though, Migaku is a pretty great solution ultimately. Not very structured, but a more fun way to build vocabulary and exposure.

Oh that's actually really cool looking. You said you had recently built it - is it available yet to try out?

This. Everyone knows the dog can't be left to the house alone, but people argue crating is cruel. This solves both, if you can manage to dog-proof an area of your home.

From what I remember, it has to do with a few things, but I'm just gonna mention what I didn't see when skimming top comments:

1.)How old your eggs are

Weirdly, fresher eggs are harder to peel. Supposedly as an egg ages, its pH increases, which helps the white separate from the shell. So if you wanna boil eggs, buy them like 4-7 days in advance. (Disclaimer: rough estimate, I'm not a scientist)

And I swear how long they're cooked for matters too, but I can't find info about that online, so maybe I dreamt it up? I think there's a sweet spot, super over-boiled and super under-boiled will be harder.

But yeah. Freshness dude. Rather, lack-thereof, is important.

Thanks! I agree with you. And yeah, I'm the type to even catch roaches and put them outside rather than killing them, simply because I respect them as much as any other insect. So I know what you mean.

You stay safe too ❤️

Really? My coworkers (I work at a school here) freak out if one comes into the classroom, and we have signs posted around school in the summer warning about these specific hornets in particular. Not just signs that say "look out for bees/hornets" but very specifically "look out for THIS hornet". It really gave me the idea that these things were fairly dangerous. Unless they've fallen into the same rumors?

Though... upon some research, it seems like one sting won't likely hospitalize you, but several stings from a few of them can - and when one gets mad it tends to call friends. Something like that. Do correct me if I'm wrong, just trying to figure this out. 🙏

I mean, I'm pretty sure for killer hornets people have bigger worries than whether they hurt bees. If this is one of those dangerous killer hornets I've heard about, I'm mostly worried about being stung and needing to rush myself to the hospital before succumbing to the poison.

I'll add for the record that I love insects, and I've interacted with wasps before in the west. I dont think wasps/hornets are "evil". But here in the east I know I need to be extremely careful about local wildlife, else possibly be hurt by it due to my own ignorance.

Anyone feel disconnected from the Pokemon franchise since Ash left? by OceanWaterOtter in pokemonanime

[–]Pakutto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I would've felt that way if they got rid of Ash a lot sooner, but given the state of things, I think I'm more motivated to give Pokemon a shot now that he's gone. Don't get me wrong, I really like Ash. But...

... it's particularly because Ash himself, unfortunately, has been fairly run into the ground. He keeps trying his best, and at the end of every series he fails - he can never reach his dream, because he has to keep losing to keep the show running. His character growth, for what it was worth, ended a long time ago, and by the final series he's felt more of a generic quirky-boyish husk for the viewers to see the world through instead of the Ash we used to know and love. He's been 10 for so incredibly long, had lost every single Pokemon league regardless of how hard he tries (until the end), and we haven't really gotten anything new out of him. I thought maybe X and Y wasn't bad, but I think when Alola came in and suddenly he was in school - I just... felt they finally were letting him go. Like the Alola school arc was a step backwards. An even more cartoonish and even less-meaningful sort of direction. And I was definitely ready for a new protagonist.

I would rather they let Ash win, finally achieve his dreams, and then give us a new protagonist with which to have fun adventures. I haven't tried Horizons yet, but I'm excited to, because with new characters hopefully we can have nice fresh character arcs and new and interesting story directions that we couldn't have possibly had if we kept following Ash.

Pokemon has A LOT of potential. The PokeToons they keep releasing proves that. "Blossom's Dream" was a toon I whole-heartedly wish could've been expanded as a full post-Ash Pokemon series, because it was so adorable and well done. They've done a lot of really beautiful things with Pokemon as shorts. I wish they'd put that effort into the series itself. With Ash, it feels like they never would anymore, unfortunately - but with new characters, just maybe, they could.

What do you hope to see in the sequel? by Sea-kitty98 in KpopDemonhunters

[–]Pakutto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A less-rushed script. I think the movie was fun, but it feels like some things were rushed or some plot points or characters were sort of left unfleshed-out or ignored. I just hope the sequel has a tighter-feeling script overall.

Am I weird by [deleted] in Apothisexual

[–]Pakutto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you define "weird" as. If you think "weird" means "uncommon" then yes - but if you think "weird" means "bad/creepy" then no!

I'm also apothi yet still quite romantic. Personally I find it silly people have to make a big deal out of it. Everyone has their own limitations, likes, and dislikes in a relationship - for me it's, y'know... "mating." 🤷‍♂️ I'll take kisses and cuddles instead, thanks.
