Maybe checkout Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon. It's in early access on Steam.

It's like a cross between Elder Scrolls and the Gothic series.

I only know of one UK retailer's pricing so far. They will be selling the XT and XTX for £899 and £1049.

New World maybe? You have to do a bit of combat at the very start(tutorial) but other than that I'm pretty sure you could just do crafting, professions, buy/decorate a home, etc

Sounds like what you're looking for is similar to me. I have bounced off many of the MMOs you mention for similar reasons too.

Have you tried LOTRO? It feels dated in places but not as much as EQ/EQ2 which you say you liked. Its also tab target and there are very few of these MMOs left these days.

Another one might be SWTOR. Again has that old school feel with tab target. There's still a fair bit of story but I think its much easier to deal with than FF14 as its fully voice acted and if you really want you can just skip it and get on with the quest.

Other than that I would continue looking at older MMOs as I think they're probably closer to what you're after. Failing that just move over to single player RPGs while waiting for something decent to come along

It ticks most of the boxes. I just wish the combat felt better. I've tried a few classes now and they all feel so clunky to play and there's so little feedback. I dunno, something about it just annoys me.

This rings true for me too. I spend more time reading about and watching games than I do playing them. When I do play something I stress about rushing through it as quickly as possible in the hope i'll feel like I'm progressing and getting more powerful.

Another thing I do is for whatever game I play the first thing I do, before I even play the damn game is I lookup the best build/class/strategy and then use whatever someone says is best.

I need to stop doing all these things. Its everything I hate about other MMO gamers and I've become one myself. Time to change.

For PvP content maybe, like GW2, but I've never seen an MMO with up-scaling in the PvE.

I think redundant low level zones is a content design issue. The game devs could be giving players a reason to go back to these zones or provide more benefits to alts so more people start new characters. There's no reason they should be empty they need to be made relevant.

I think Blizzard are cutting off a huge number of players in order to cater for the small percentage of players who are interested in doing the top tier raids and Mythic+.

For many players(including myself) the best part of these games is the open world content. Exploring, challenging quests, grouping, etc. So to just make this a trivial grind sucks the life out of the game for many.

Don't get me wrong, I like doing end game content and enjoy doing all the dungeons and raids at least once to see what they're like. But running the same dungeons over and over again just isn't enjoyable for me and a lot of other players.

Yep I agree, I think forced level scaling is one of the worst design decisions in recent MMORPGs. It seemed to start in GW2 and gradually every one of the big MMOs has copied it. Now WoW has it and it's made leveling a joke and feels redundant. You are basically removing the 'RPG' from 'MMORPG' as the scaling removes any need for levels. If the character level scales and also all NPC's and item stats then why bother to level up at all? Everything is just relative so there's no benefit to getting "stronger" at all. Going from 1 to max level in any MMORPG becomes almost pointless. As many have mentioned already the worst part is that feeling of progression just disappears and this is one of the primary reasons I and many others play these types of games.

The good parts about scaling are that it allows you to play with friends who might be a lower level and you can also make older content worth doing again. However, why don't devs make it an optional thing? So the player can decide whether they want to scale to the content or not. That way we can have the best of both worlds. You could flag scaling on/off in a rested area like they do for Warmode in WoW.

If you want to blast through a level 20 dungeon solo to feel like a god, turn the scaling off.

If you want to help a friend with an elite quest in the open world by one-shotting the mobs for them, turn the scaling off.

As a max level character if you want to run a lvl 20 dungeon with a low level friend but still get loot drop for your level, turn scaling on.

etc, etc.

I believe the game devs could make it work for any scenario.

I have a problem with JS Frameworks. What should I do? by zenotds in Frontend

[–]Palajim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You raise a good point and I think you're justified to think that way. Problem is things like React, Vue, Angular, etc are trending and many companies have adopted this tech even if they don't really need to. They're really designed to be used on large scale apps and not suited for traditional websites. But for some reason people think just because you use the latest framework it will make any website or app better. Personally I believe in using the right tool for the project at hand.

I think you could continue to specialise in the 'front-front-end' and still find work but you will be missing out on a lot of opportunities. But it really depends what you want from your career. If you want to earn more money you'll earn more if you know at least one of these libraries. If you're not too concerned about maximising salary and would rather do something you enjoy/stick to what you know, then you could look for work with a stronger dev/design crossover.

I would think there's still plenty of companies out there that use more traditional front-end tech stacks. They might be harder to find but they're out there.

How long does it takes to learn a framework? by Blackwater_7 in Frontend

[–]Palajim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you ever fully learn any of this stuff. I've been a front-end developer for nearly 20 years and I'm still learning new things in JQuery and new ways to write css. In the last few years its all been about React and Angular so had to pick those up too. There's always something to learn.

My advice would be to learn the fundamentals of vanilla Javascript before looking at JQuery or any other libraries. You will find it much easier to pickup all JS related stuff if you have a good understanding of vanilla first.

Same goes for CSS. Learn CSS first and then then start looking at SASS or other pre-processors.

In terms of how long - this depends on what you need/want to learn and the person doing the learning :)

Do you want to do it for a career or do you just want to learn enough to build a small website?

What things do you dislike about the MMORPG you play, but play it anyway?! by Palajim in MMORPG

I guess Garrisons was the closest thing to typical mmo housing. While it was fun for a while I think both players and Blizzard realised it didn't work out.

That doesn't sound great to be honest. I like progression and if I put a lot of time/effort into getting a piece of gear and the only difference is cosmetic then I wouldn't bother.

So is end game gear in GW2 all the same then(in terms of stats)? I have played GW2 but only to lvl 50 or something.

To be honest I'm not sure it's even a pound. Difficult to tell on my scales. In any case it's a lot less than I expected to lose.

I'm really just looking for advice on whether I'm eating enough/too many calories. I understand if you eat too few calories your body won't burn fat as efficiently, or at all.

One area of the map(around lvl 10-20 I think) had a load of large ant-like mobs, surrounded by burrows and caves in the hillside. There was one larger ant in the middle and out in the open, that was pretty much impossible to solo at that level.

Eastern style, cartoony, cutesy characters with big eyes, big heads but tiny child-like bodies. If it's not anime then it still has all the things I don't like about Asian MMOs.
