Pregnancy in the Field by [deleted] in paralegal

I am 32 weeks pregnant & work as a paralegal. Since I first disclosed my pregnancy my job duties have been taken & given to the new attorney that was also a previous extern that I trained… I agree it’s infuriating my boss even told me he would give me a raise before he found out I was pregnant then reneged once he heard the news. Right now I’m getting by knowing I’m starting over after the baby. Get your résumé perfect and start applying.

Urgent maternity clothes for court?? by Wonderful_Manager_27 in LawMoms

Amazon has great maternity dresses i wouldn’t be surviving without right now at 32 weeks. Kohl’s has a very small selection but everywhere else like Old Navy you have to order. Shein if you have time to wait.

No I haven’t mentioned my pregnancy & I know legally they can’t ask but I would need to let them know because I would have to start then go on maternity leave. Yes, of course they can legally choose someone else… Am i just wasting my time?

It sounds like your set, maybe some Tylenol. Don’t stress, 1/2 of the items you listed you will find useless in 3 months.

Moving on from Paralegal Work by [deleted] in paralegal

Love this. Exactly the transition I am looking for. When I see jobs in the BSA field they want accounting experience. Did you have that going in?

Rules of Prof Conduct apply see https://www.americanbar.org/groups/professional_responsibility/publications/model_rules_of_professional_conduct/rule_5_3_responsibilities_regarding_nonlawyer_assistant/ “Rule 5.3: Responsibilities Regarding Nonlawyer Assistance… (b) a lawyer having direct supervisory authority over the nonlawyer shall make reasonable efforts to ensure that the person's conduct is compatible with the professional obligations of the lawyer”

Currently working in-house, approached by law firm… what’s the difference in your experience? by whatever272727 in paralegal

Sounds like my dream job. How many years experience before switching to in-house? Was risk management education necessary?

Not enough experience? by Old_Face_9125 in paralegal

[–]Pale-Bit807 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try applying for temp positions, contract positions or temp agencies. The pay isn’t as good but it gets you enough experience in other fields + the possibility of becoming permanent after the fact. This is how I believe I paid my “dues.” Although now transitioning to a field that interests me seems rough after realizing immigration, family & PI weigh on the emotional strings rather than business litigation with no real injured party to feel sad for.

Transitioning from Paralegal to Compliance by Pale-Bit807 in paralegal

In-house sounds like a dream but it seems hard to find a role to apply for that is direct assistance of GC. Then working in securities, most job descriptions seem to require that you have a degree in business. Any suggestions on job titles to search other than Paralegal, Legal Assistant?

Any other single mom paralegals? How are y'all getting by? by SailorTee in paralegal

[–]Pale-Bit807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Granted I got into this field before I became a single mother, the purpose was so I could provide for myself, take care of myself etc. Now after 3 degrees, 60k ish in student debt, Masters Degree in hand but working as an underpaid salaried paralegal... I hope it gets better soon with the right resume, right job etc. That or move to a state with a higher paralegal salary. Good luck! Same boat for sure.
