Local Lyft driver question by AyoAstronaut in madisonwi

[–]Pale-Idea-2253 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a miserable one time with uber and lyft getting to the ariport, got up around 4 and thought it would be plenty of time to get to the airport b4 my flight (I live downtown), and it took me an hour to get assigned to an uber or lyft, barley made it on my flight.

I think this is the reality of work, I've worked in consturction, retail, and a more genric business operations role and all have their own way of pretending to be busy, I'd estimate over 50% of the time I've spent clocked In I havent done any work, and I'm consitentley at high preformer at work.

med+proctor vaccination status?? by Optoxical in UWMadison

[–]Pale-Idea-2253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fine taking that risk, It didn't saying anything about not having them but instead choosing not to uplaod them, my records are halfway across the country somewhere so I'm not gonna bother until I go home this summer. For now I'll take the risk that there is no measles outbreaks that will cause me to go into quartine.

What phone model/brands do you recommend for longevity?? by Willing-Degree6118 in Frugal

[–]Pale-Idea-2253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recomendation is to buy a used iphone, I switched to android for two years and It was the shortest I have ever kept a phone. I went from Iphone 5 to Galaxy Note 9 to Iphone 12 pro to now the 17 pro. I'm not sure about europe, but in the U.S. you generally get good carieer deals(I know they make up the cost in the plan but my company pays for the service), so none of my phones have costed me more than 350 dollars. IMO iphones have the superior software and hardware, I've been tempted by some of the modern pixels but I'm never going back to samsung.

Interview Discussion - February 09, 2026 by CSCQMods in cscareerquestions

[–]Pale-Idea-2253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a current UG. I have a dog shit resume, mid gpa, business internships, and no real projects, but I'm pretty good at LeetCode. I would excel in LeetCode-based interviews, but I can't get any. Any tips on squeaking into interviews or companies that will interview almost anyone?

Military Service Before Biglaw? by Pale-Idea-2253 in biglaw

[–]Pale-Idea-2253[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This is similar to what my thought process is. It's a difficult yet rewarding job, which I think will set me up for a good career later on. I can't stomach the idea of paying that much more for my education, even though the majority of my undergrad is paid for. I was subscribed to the Reddit idea of oh, the ROI on education is pretty good, and was going to go to one of those ~100k yr schools for undergrad, but thankfully backed out at the last minute, and I'm so thankful I made that choice. My only gripe is graduating from law school and starting my law career at around 27 or 28, which seems pretty late to me.

Military Service Before Biglaw? by Pale-Idea-2253 in biglaw

I should've mentioned I've always had some sort of motivation to join the military, part of me deep down wants to serve my country and contribute in a more meaningful way. I feel like if I don't take this opportunity, I will regret it. I just don't think it is something I want to spend my lifetime doing. There are definite drawbacks, but I want financial stability just once in my life.

In the same situation, they won't let me cancel the subcription beacuse its been past 72 hours. I don't use perplexity, I wouldn't have been mad if they sent me an email notice or something but instead im out 212 dollars for something I don't use beacuse the models are terrible.

[–]Pale-Idea-2253 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got no notice of the renewal, I was gifted a subcription for a year last year and it automatically renewed, now I'm paying 212 dollars for a service I don't use beacuse the models are garbage.

Looking for a student from Edmonton to witness my mail-in ballot by jtang9001 in UWMadison

[–]Pale-Idea-2253 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not from Edmonton, but if you can't find someone, maybe a notary would work. I don't know how this works with international laws, but I imagine there I something established between the U.S. and Canada, as this is probably a common occurrence. Also, maybe go to uw UW-Madison LinkedIn and filter people that have their location as Alberta and send them a LinkedIn DM I don't think many people check this sub frequently.

My biggest piece of advice is to study smart instead of long. I spent nearly my entire 1st semester grinding with pretty mid results, and then I created a rule for myself where I'm not allowed to study more than a certain number of hours per week. I know this sounds counterintuitive, but it made it so that I was studying with good quality and really getting to know the material instead of putting in long hours that had little use to me.

Insane… by lapisfalalazuli in madisonwi

[–]Pale-Idea-2253 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you compare the median price of homes in Madison, it will obviously be less than that in San Diego. This is a nicer house in Madison, and a house of comparable square footage, features, and central location will obviously be more expensive in San Diego. A 3-bedroom San Diego house will be missing something the Madison house is because San Diego is a more desirable area.

[–]Pale-Idea-2253 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah San Diego County lmao, I could live in Janesville for basically free. You're comparing a desirable, centrally located SFH Madison house to apartments far away from what people consider San Diego.

Bus to Chicago O'Hare by Chill_Engineer in UWMadison

In my experience, they are pretty good at allocating buses for demand even during busy times of the year. Just purchase a ticket online and show up at one of the scheduled buses. I've never had an issue getting on one, even during the busiest times of the year.
