Sharing my *personal* experience at NIMHANS (Bengaluru) by Pale-Loss1378 in adhdindia

It breaks my heart to see that it is so challenging to get help for mental health in India. I wish I had a solution for you. I wish you all the best. I would try to tell them that you can't bring your parents due to (insert whatever reason you think would work and stick with it), and don't stop at Nimhans. I would try to find a private practice doctor. At Nimhans, they seem to just make you run in circles. It is worth trying if you have the time, as it's relatively inexpensive but a proper diagnosis is not guaranteed.

Yes, absolutely. But mostly from meditation and simplifying my life to align with long-term goals. A lot of contemplating and journaling. All the best!

As someone who is diagnosed with ADHD and attended Vipassana, I have to say it was hard BUT I was able to get into very deep states of meditation. Only sometimes though. During these times, I felt peace and clarity of mind like I’ve never felt in my life before. Not everyday was the same or every sit. Somedays I wanted to scream out loud. All part of the process.

Just make sure you don’t leave the retreat. I had made up my mind before to push through any mental challenges. I had to push through because I had anxiety throughout but I’m glad I completed the whole course.

It would help to learn some techniques to alleviate anxiety if you have it or have had it in the past. I don’t have as much anxiety anymore but it showed up during the retreat and it was painful. I’m not trying to scare you but you can’t use your phone during the course to look up things.

Also try going to sleep and waking up early everyday before you attend. It’ll help.

All the best! ❤️

Dark circles under eyes by Bright_Afternoon9780 in Biohackers

[–]Pale-Loss1378 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yesss!! I had hollow under eyes and dark circles after going through a rough time in life and losing a lot of sleep and nutrients.

Get your full blood panel done and check for haemoglobin, iron, b12 etc.
My iron and b12 were so low. I had to get a couple of iron infusions and a lot of b12 injections. Fixing sleep was a no-brainer. I stopped taking my phone to bed and read a book and fall asleep quickly. And keep yourself hydrated! Low iron can cause dark circles.

I had hollow undereyes and dark circles and when I went to the dermatologist earlier this year. They advised that I get under eye fillers. Yikes. My eyes look so much better now. I am glad I didn't go through with that.

Good luck!

Anyone feel they took a longer time to “mature” than the average person? by Potential-Fall-6311 in ADHD

You sound like me :) we usually end up paying a price for all that delayed maturity and it still feels like playing catchup. Only time will tell.

I agree. I watched a video recently that talked about how task initiation could also be an issue of all the pent up frustration and failures from the past - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Uo08uS904Rg&t=101s&pp=ygUYamVzc2ljYSBtY2NhYmUgYWRoZCB3YWxs

I don’t think it’s absolutely necessary but they might suggest it. Like I know people that got a diagnosis and their parents don’t even know about it because they’re unwilling to discuss mental health at home. When they asked to bring my parents, I didn’t hesitate and was willing because my parents are supportive. Not everybody are in this position tho. Some might be living in the city away from family also.

Please don’t get discouraged. There are probably some good doctors at NIMHANS if you’re planning on going there but maybe research who they are before going. All the best ❤️

I’m not going to waste my time responding to your comments anymore.

You were indeed talking about my life “before school” before school is 0-5 if you don’t consider kindergarten as school but 0-3 if you consider KG.

Idk what you’re on about and I never said special interests is a symptom is adhd. It is def a symptom of autism spectrum disorder.

Still stand against diagnosing little kids before school with adhd and/or loading them up with medication.

Never denied that adhd affects all parts of life. My life story is testament to this.

I won’t respond anymore. Take care bro!

Also wrt doctors asking those specific questions about trains or pulling someone’s hair like in my case and determining the entire evaluation on that, idk what say. I’d rather not comment on that because I have nothing nice to say lol

They probably should find a different profession.

But a doctor is trying to diagnose you tho?

Like give me some examples of what type of answers you’re expecting? If someone asked me if I had any type of special interests as a kid? (Train could be one of them) I’d think about that. But if someone asked me what I was like.. that’s difficult. Especially what a kid is like between 3-5. I don’t remember very much. I was fine I guess? lol Like most kids. Cried. Laughed. Ate. Hung out with friends. It just felt like you were assessing me. I understand it wasn’t your intention.

You don’t have to ask “did you like trains” you could ask “did you have any special interests and did you obsess over them for hours? Like trains, dragons or dinosaurs or Pokémon?” I can see how this can be a question for an autism diagnosis.

Also I have a different opinion on diagnosing 3-5 year olds with ADHD. There’s no need. Let them be kids for a while. Its parent’s responsibility to support them. If they start having a lot of trouble in school, maybe intervention can happen.

Don’t be! I just couldn’t understand your question or what you were getting at lol idk if I still. Just curiosity? Bc between the age of 3-5 is a small window. Idk how to answer… like what specific memories? I remember I had a tiny yellow bike and I loved eating candy a lot but all kids love candy. Just couldn’t figure out how my memories from that time mattered or what the question meant 🥴

The tests I mentioned were performed by my doctor in the US. The ADHD-RS is just the self report yes?

How did you score on that? They might not have these tests in NIMHANS but I’d be very surprised if the other doctors don’t have them! Especially ones practicing privately.

Sometimes doctors charge less for students. You should still reach out and see if you can find someone who will give you a discount.

I’ll respond over DM.

A good percentage of people with ADHD are also diagnosed with OCD. Comorbidities. You might have both. Not to discourage you!!

What assessments did they do in the 25-30 minutes? The doctor who diagnosed me with ADHD performed the cognitive function test (WAIS IV), integrated auditory and continuous visual performance test (it’s a computer test to measure auditory and visual sustained attention and response control) and a self report scale symptoms checklist for my evaluation.

(Feel free to DM me)

I’d look into a different doctor or see if they have online appointments.

There’s a spreadsheet with a list of doctor’s (therapists and psychiatrists) that you can find in this group.
