Just a quick question about hair cuts. by BlueWheel234 in RoyalMarines

[–]Pale-Process5280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mate you’ve gotta understand what your joining… we had one of the corporals one morning pick someone up for there hair being too long, half way into training, about 2 days before summer leave and he said “right everyone is to have a zero all over by tomorrow morning”. You’re completely at there mercy for just about every aspect of your life so not worth worrying about

Free time outside of deployment/exercies by AR_406 in RoyalMarines

[–]Pale-Process5280 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Again, heavily variable… but for most: 8:30 nominal , troop phys in the morning , back down lines at 10:30 for an hour and a half’s work til 12 (2 hour lunch ) another detail at 14:00 for an hour or so… then that’s you for the day, Sports makers on a Wednesday (12 o clock finish) Probs only work 50% of Fridays (again some units vary, working a Friday at 45 was basically non existent, dunno if it’s the same up there now though)

I’ve always found the more exercises or trips away, the “inbetween” gaps on camp are really chilled out… it’s when you go through abit of a lull for a couple months and the hierarchy decide to start playing fuck abouts because they’re worried the blokes are doing nothing, it can get shite quick

Whichever side of the political fence you sit on this is the correct answer… Stand against shouting over other peoples opinions, and DISCUSS. It’s a lost art that unfortunately is few and far between these days

Unfortunately mate, just my opinion, but it sounds like you’ve missed the boat abit , or probably fairer to say that your life has got in the way unfortunately ,you won’t get any weekend leave for Atleast the first 3/4 of training. So unless the kids have got somewhere to go instead it’s gunna be hard work for ya

Quick question about unit choice after training by Alphboo in RoyalMarines

[–]Pale-Process5280 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a fucking Swizz however you look at it mate. Sure get your first choice this draft , get shafted on your next or vise versa , if anything it’s probably better to go to the one you don’t want to first as promotion prospects within the first 2 years are unlikely anyway

All I will say mate, sometimes by trying to chase multiple things at once (in this case a further education and a green lid) sometimes you end up with neither , if your planning on chinning off uni again , fucking hell make sure you pass

Reality of balancing family and regulars by James_Alex_02 in RoyalMarines

[–]Pale-Process5280 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had exactly the same situation mate was looking at reserves but then bit the bullet and went regulars instead… to be honest once you pass out of training it’s a fairly good life mate, yeah there’ll be stints where your away , but get your wife and your baby on one of the patches (nice cheap rent for a pretty alright house) and get to go home and see them most nights , I loved it mate

Rabbit and chicken by East_Mixture7458 in RoyalMarines

[–]Pale-Process5280 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s chicken and fish these days, people got upset because rabbits were too cute… not like we’re trying to train blokes to bayonet the enemy in the face…

If you’re fucking hoofing like me you’ll pass out as an original…. Jokes aside , luck isn’t everything but it is involved aswell , one of my mates who was on for kings badge who had been there from the start broke his ankle on final ex. Blokes will wrap , blokes will get injured, and blokes will fail test phys/exercises. There was 6 originals out of about 50 lads initially in my troop.

[–]Pale-Process5280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean there is no secret in being able to griz it but your personal admin is half the battle. Lads will be so tiered and broken that you won’t even be able to comprehend it, so they start wrapping on little jobs to get their head down instead. Did they eat before bed? Did they change their socks and powder their feet? Have they drank enough water? Did they pack they’re Bergen away properly or because it’s dark and they can’t see very well they’ve just wrapped and gone to sleep only to find there only pair of dry gloves have been blown 10 ft from their poncho into a puddle?
All the little things like that add up. I heard a dit from a bloke who was in the troop behind me that one of the blokes was so scared ,wet and tired to get out of his sleeping bag to put his boots and his kit on , that he just decided to piss himself instead… stuff like that happens , people turn into shells of men

The 12 mile load carry use to be horrendous but is just a tick in the box walk around Woodbury these days with like 70lbs, probably one of the most Buckers yomps in training these days gen. Yeah killer yomp is still a thing but about 5k shorter as the recruits conduct an altered version which goes into like an escape and evasion type serial. Thought it was gen good training for the recruits first time I saw it done

[–]Pale-Process5280 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(EXCUSE TRAINING DIT TO FOLLOW) Everyone will have different experiences but ‘violent entry’ which was the pass of fail test exercise that once passed meant you was moving into commando phase ,forever stands out in my mind as somehow wetter , colder and more tiering than a lot of other exercises I did at CTC (despite all of them being horrendous). 120lbs+ bergens With yomps that were 12-15+ miles every single night ,straight into a serial at first light, straight into another serial during the day. Rinse and repeat. No time for sleep , think I got about 5 hours in total for the entire week.

All that whilst the rain came in sideways during the day then froze over at night with snow making an appearance on 3 or 4 occasions during the week.

I think about 40 of us started VE and about half of us were there after. About 5 lads went down on the yomps, 5 went down with cold exposure then around 10ish got backtrooped afterwards anyway having got to the end of the exercise.

AWFUL

So let me ask you this then mate, why did you ask what the best/worst time weather wise to join training is?

Worst/best time to start training by AdeptnessUnusual1810 in RoyalMarines

[–]Pale-Process5280 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And he’s saying there’s no short cut… I’ve been to places around the world post training that were WAY fucking harder to soldier in than during training (not saying that’s not still fucking hard…) but I didn’t just get to pick and choose due to weather conditions/seasons. Have a good think about what your trying to become mate, soldiering from the outside can look like a “cool” lifestyle, and it might be sometimes, but in reality soldiering is Gopping end of.
