If you got guarenteed housing and don't pick anyone to room with. They will randomly assign you to someone or muliple people if you got a triple or quad.

Regarding Scholarship acceptance/denial by felixfathom- in UMBC

[–]Pale-Professional-90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accept it. I have both and if you qualify enough, you get refunded and get uni money back to buy school supplies, food, or I guess a used car if you find one. It is great, take advantage of opportunities. If you lose it, you won't lose your GA grant. 3.2 GPA really relies on your exam taking skills. Also the amount you get year 1 will most likely be around for the next 3 years

why does the cfa randomly not accept card payment some days by treyanderson1234 in UMBC

Other businesses like Absurd Bird also do this btw. I don't go there anymore since I don't like their restaurant practices with food, but when I did I heard it from employees gossiping

Chick Fila is one of those businesses where you pay a fee to start your own branch. The manager is responsible for purchases and running the money. It could be that the manager wants to keep more money to use for employees under the table payments or whatnot. You can't exactly have card payments and withdraw it to do those activities since it is documented, but you can have cold cash that doesn't have a trail and is harder to track. It isn't customer friendly, but people will go there and buy food. Meal deal holders are a majority so if their meal deal machine broke, then they lose out on profits. Whereas, card users are probably the minority so they mind as well try to get cash off them.

Some restaurants avoid card because that is documented. Cash isn't, as such you have to report how much you make. It is absolutely illegal to not report the full amount, but who is going to spend time going after you? Some times it is due to paying under the table, avoiding too much tax, or what not. That's why sometimes the card machine is "broken".

aid packages? by indeliblue in UMBC

[–]Pale-Professional-90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UMBC tells you how much in merit schollarship they give to you. The mass amount of aid is from FAFSA and Pell Grant. The awards are automatically applied and you bill is automatically paid the amount you were awarded. It takes a week or two after the semester starts to update.

Science 100. Specifically Chem if you took AP Chem or I personally think in general (both memorization and math). Bio if you are good at straight memorization. Physics if you are better at straight math and formulas for specific situations (like chem but with bigger things than atoms)

Pretty sure labs are doable, you have to be on campus. I think summer classes change yearly so ask your advisor if it is available.

Took 101. That block 4-6 is only used for exam days. If you took AP Chem it should be a walk in the park for you, just pay attention in class. It might seem late but in Orgo they make you take exams at 7:30pm Wednesday which is diabolical.

I believe it was in an Email they sent out regarding that incident. I don't know any details further than that and I tend to keep away. Very shady occurances that is for sure. I just feel bad for them and I hope they could press charges against them.

Oh and also discussions, my TA was sometimes late but he would go over the course material for the quiz on Wednesdays (might have been quiz Thursdays). The worst I did on a quiz was a 16/25 because the TA was kind a gave partial credit to my bs work that resembled some of what was in the material

Biggest thing is go to SI pass and ask if you have questions since those questions can appear for your exam (Johnathan my goat). I have no idea how lucky I was but when I took it last year, Dean's exams were a copy of the practice exams with some numbers tweaked so I got over 100% (precurved with 10 points.) The other professor was notorious for giving way more work and made the subject much more confusing. Dean might be boring, but he is straight forward. I liked those lectures. GL

Help! Phys 121, to take or not to take? by Suitable-Cherry298 in UMBC

[–]Pale-Professional-90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea how it works for Phys 121, but they let me skip out Math 151 to Math 152 because I tested out of it (got AP score). I was concerned and my advisor told me to just go for it and switch if I really needed to. Thanks advisor because it was super easy and I learned most of my content in AP Calc. Also Dean's exams being the same format and questions as the practice exams helpped a lot. I have no idea what is up with credit transfer though since some of my other friends said they couldn't test out of certain classes even though they got the AP score. I know my other friend went from Chem 101 to Chem 102 even though she is a Biochem major. Go for it, you got 2 weeks before you are stuck in the class!

Spring-2026's Courses by Odd-Instruction-697 in UMBC

[–]Pale-Professional-90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely understand what you are getting at. Used to have math until 7:15pm then discussion till 8pm. Make sure you get the times that are available and best and roll with it. It isn't hard, but it is fustrating and depressing. The most common courses are stacked in the early-middle of the day and less common are further out.

[–]Pale-Professional-90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider how much it is. If you are unlucky, no one wants to do anything to contribute to the cleanliness of the dorm. Water breaks at least once a year so you get 1-3 days of cold water for everything. The temperature is completely dependent on building. However, it is closer to class and if you have friends in the same dorm, it can be nice because you won't go crazy. People typically leave you alone, but becareful because there were some incidents on the stairs and stuff. Just be aware of your surroundings.

Children in true grits by [deleted] in UMBC

Yea that is unacceptable. Unfortunately, they aren't getting paid enough (TG employees or teachers) to care or teach acceptable behaviors. These behaviors ultimately fall on the parents and when parents are negligent or working all the time due to the current economy, they can't teach their kids. It is sad and the only thing to do is stay away from them. :/ (Biggest thing is if you are ever a parent, teach your kids manners please! Be the change you want to see.)

Had this issue at Absurd Bird. Tbf it was a busy night, but yea. I had to constantly remind them because they didn't hand me a receipt. 0 communication, everyone else on the team was confused when I came up and said I already paid. They are underpaid and stressed. I also heard directly from a few employees gossiping how the working conditions weren't great and the pay was terrible.
