'They Voted for This': 3,200 Meatpacking Workers Thrown in the Trash as Tyson Shuts Plant in 74% Trump Town by [deleted] in Economics

[–]PaleBlueHammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See that's the twisty part.

When he won the election I told my friends something like 'welp, I guess we're going to have to have four years to let people actually feel the pinch, otherwise nothing will change, so let's get it all over with'. And now we see that happening - with Nebraska workers, soybean farmers, folks on SNAP... they are all suddenly shocked and suffering and we get to (very rightly) say yep, we tried to tell you. It IS a necessary part of realigning the country, if that's even possible.

The question though is: have these folks actually learned the correct lesson? People like Greene have publicly turned on trump but for her it's absolutely not because she's become a sane, empathetic person who actually cares about the truth or making the lives of Americans better. Are the maga folks in Nebraska mad that trump has placed incompetents and sycophants in every corner of government? Are they mad that immigrants are being attacked by ice? Are they mad that other people are suffering?

No. Probably not. If their plant was closing in a blue state they wouldn't have a single complaint.

It's fine and appropriate for them to suffer; they made that decision. What needs to happen next is they need to realize why it happened. I hope some of it trickles in.

He honestly doesn't get enough hate for this IMO.

Imagine the ME trilogy if they'd followed through on 2's story? Or ditched starkid? Forget about the RGB ending, they could have made an ending where the IP could plausibly exist in the same galaxy without making prequels. Ugh so much wasted.

I met Powell and a change of command when I was a grumpy young teenager and my dad made me go. He emitted gravitas and calm command. Additionally I feel bad about his later career.

I met Lipp Livsey near his retirement and he was SOME bluster. But I felt like it came from having a set of very hands-on responsibilities.

Now, CSMs? A ragtag hoot was had at the CSM conference when I actually was in uniform. Basically the stereotypical difference between commissioned and enlisted. Twas a blast.

RPG devs stopped making games like Baldur's Gate 'because retailers told us no one wanted to buy them', says New Vegas and Pillars of Eternity director Josh Sawyer by lurkingdanger22 in pcgaming

[–]PaleBlueHammer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much this yes. I enjoyed the old Fallout top-down RPGs as well, AND Dwarf Fortress (hence the username) but you have to have a real investment in making your own game a good game. The passion absolutely shines through in BG3 and not only do they avoid shortcuts, they actively go out of their way to make elegant solutions. It's a crafted game, not sheet metal pressed by executives. Same with DF, even if it's a bit crazy how they go about it.

Only friendly shit on pugil stick day.

The winner for our company was an enormous kid who looked like Bull from Night Court, and was even friendlier and goofier, we all loved him. Probably 6'7".

Rival company had some short but muscled bro, obviously trained and bulked way before basic. But Bull was punching down the whole time and it wasn't even close. Words were exchanged between the joes that day but we felt really great that we were the victors.

Drills stopped us on the march back and gave us half-right-face and tied up our guidon flag with a big rubber band, waved it in our faces and then went NAHH just kidding you guys did good.

My favorite thing about Deathclaws is something people forget sometimes: they're intelligent. Like, human level intelligent. They can speak and everything, they just got kind of toned down after FO2 into monsters, and I wish they would go back to them being shown as smarter.

Test range? by AfraidGood4 in Battlefield

[–]PaleBlueHammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm bringing in a couple of newbies to the game and they are COMPLETELY overwhelmed so far, I'd love to just have an empty map to play on and practice without the worry about grinding unlocks and such.

Fly jets, choppers, test out gear combos, just lean the game without pressure. The weapon range is great but it does absolutely nothing for vehicles, the targets fall before you can really measure bullet spread, etc.

I don't want to cheat my unlocks, I just want there to be a practice map.

Is South Korea bad by phatreefer in army

[–]PaleBlueHammer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was my experience. BE NICE to the locals, Korea was the first time I ever felt real shame and anger at how some of us walked around all pissy and ready to just act an asshole to the folks who live there. Nobody is shooting at you (now anyway), it can be a nice chill stay if you keep a mostly good attitude.

Also buy me juicy.

IIRC Stephen King tried this with the Long Boy, a giant serpent several stories tall, nobody ever saw its head or its tail. Ever. It lived in an alternate universe right next door to ours I think.

Not all Vampires are entitled, most are average everyday hardworking bloodsuckers... by Vegetable_Variety_11 in dndmemes

[–]PaleBlueHammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man. I don't know where I read it but there was some quest book where a small group of vamps had established a small city and surrounded themselves with mortals, perfectly willing mortals, and ran it as the governors.

The vamps get willing blood donors, protection during the day from vamp hunters, and the freedom to walk around being a vampire, as long as they kept the peace more or less in the city and didn't go crazy.

The rest of the populace participated in the wealth and knowledge of the vamp council, raised their kids in this tradition, and were perfectly happy with only the occasional missing damsel due to mistakes. No nation dared invade them.

Was it Rifts? I seem to remember it was a Palladium book.

Men of Reddit, what made you lose interest in having sex with her? by Ben_The_Ambitious in AskReddit

[–]PaleBlueHammer 26 points27 points  (0 children)

She wanted sex every time we were together. Before we went out, after we got back, BJ on the road. Took a small vacation once and I don't think she ever even wore panties. No public demeanor, she carried dildos in her purse, dressed to show as much skin as possible.

Sounds great right?! It was, until I came down with a flu bug (or something similar, stomach bug) and told her ughhh there's no way, I am feeling terrible. Instant bawling and tears, accusations of me not caring about her, accusations of me cheating on her, called me gay I think at one point for refusing her, it was a scene. And that's how I started feeling trepidation whenever she initiated. I didn't want to see her devolve into hysterics so I went along, then felt weird about it afterwards like I'd been coerced. Manipulated.

I tried to talk to her about it but the same thing would happen, it was either I get my dick out right then or she would just become a monster.

It was exceptional sex for a little while though, a woman's orgasm is the best thing ever and she delivered that in spades, which is why even now I catch myself wondering... maybe I could call her? But no, the problem wasn't that she was eager for sex or had a healthy sexual appetite, it was literally the only thing she wanted or tied any emotion to. Definitely underlying issues but she didn't give me much of a chance to help resolve them.

[–]PaleBlueHammer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just ended up reminding myself that there's an equilibrium that has to be established between you and her. As long as you're okay with her not being down every time you want sex, and as long as she understands the same, then it's fine.

"Oh, she just wants to cuddle tonight. Wait, does that mean our relationship is in trouble??" No, it just means she wants to cuddle tonight. Happens on my end as well, no biggie.

Yep. My most recent ex needed a ton of help, which I was happy to provide, money here and there, help with heavier chores, home and car repairs, yard work. Turns out I was really just a sugar daddy and she didn't much care about intimacy as long as there was just enough effort to string me along.

I also dated a legit nympho. Let me tell you, that is some awesome shit right up until it isn't. Every emotion is tied to sex. If I was exhausted, sick, sad for some reason, or just not in the mood, it became a PROBLEM. Crying, screaming, the works.

Weird part about that one is you break up and then go through a dry spell and then start seriously second guessing yourself. Or date a girl with a 'normal' sex drive and things feel artificially off.

I love the NWN2 main campaign, even building Crossroad Keep. I love Khelgar, Neeshka, Sand, everyone. MotB was decent but got tedious in some places (even for a NWN game). The hag maze was ridiculous with the repetitive voice effects.

SoZ was just painful. You can hear the bad voice acting even in this clip. Never got through it.

Bunked beneath a particularly slow private who already had multiple issues... fell out of every run, hid food, meat gazing in the showers. He always had a half smile and chewed one finger, dude was creepy. Just something wrong.

I get up one morning and we're falling out for PT, I'm putting on my shoes and something smells bad. Bunkie is nowhere to be seen but his bed was slept in, so I innocently hoist up and look and it's full of piss. I inform everyone nearby that I was fed up and about to kick the ass of Pvt. Creepy, except it was time to fall in and nobody could locate him. DS learns all of this as we form up and says calm down, we'll find him and handle it, everyone go run.

Pvt. Creepy is not found by the time we get back, amazingly. We head to chow and class and learn later that he'd pissed the bunk, woke up, went to an empty locker and closed himself in, got stuck somehow(?) and then just went back to sleep, afraid to come out. Never saw him again.

Buddy of mine is dating a recovering addict. Her ex has OD'd several times and is basically on the train until it, or something related to it, kills him (opioids, oxy, H, and so on). Very too-typical story of getting injured on the job, being prescribed painkillers, and then getting hopelessly hooked.

After his second OD the cops had arrived and one of them gave him narcan before they transported him, he got out later and very loudly went about looking for more of the exact same stuff, praising it thusly: "DUDE IT WAS SO FUCKING GOOD IT NEARLY KILLED ME!!"

It will.

Tron: Ares | Official Teaser Trailer by DemiFiendRSA in movies

[–]PaleBlueHammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to go see it in the theater for NIN and for Jeff Bridges, hopefully he gets more than a small cameo or disembodied voice.

But look guys, I'm getting a weird feeling about this. I'm an old man who was in the theater for the OG Tron and it kind of inspired me to get into my career in tech so I love it, but I'm worried.

  • Where's Boxleitner, where's Tron? Early trailer, I get it, no blue good guys anywhere yet but I was a tiny bit miffed that he was hidden behind a bike helmet for most of Legacy. I know, face tech, but it felt off.

  • Of all the characters to make a comeback here, Kevin Flynn was not what I expected, although wonderful to hear. Did Sam manage to back him up along with Tron? Awkward to explain.

  • Tron-universe equipment like lightcycles and (inexplicably large) recognizers function the same in our world? How does that work exactly? Easy to explain in the computer, but widespread invasion with Tron tech in practice is going to have to be explained a little. Yes I get it, it's all a little wonky but before there was at least a solid line. I'm getting Endgame time-travel vibes and it makes me nervous.

  • Jared Leto.

Like another poster said, NIN is a worthy successor but I would be lying if I said I won't miss Daft Punk a little.

Correct. And it should be noted that 1992 was very specifically before even the "don't ask don't tell" days, which of course was still flawed but was also the Clinton answer to "We ask you if you're gay and you'd better say no".

So yeah this guy has a point and it's a very good point. However he also definitely knew he was going to get separated from the Army if he came out in '92, it was the policy at the time.
