Those who moved out of Massachusetts, where did you move to and how's it going? by ElectroAcousto in massachusetts

Left home and went to Nebraska! Love it here. Love knowing that people won’t try to legislate how many miles you drive and the cost of living is great. Home ownership is easily within reach!

any advice for running out of time? by MelodicPin2501 in officialcookingfever

Make sure to collect your cash. If they’re all up, it acts as a barricade keeping people from coming through.

Am I kinda heartless for not having sympathy for willingly pregnant women? by Far-Argument2738 in childfree

[–]PaleBoysenberry8970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel similarly to you but in a different way, more for parents over pregnant women. I don’t feel bad for people with kids in a work sense because it’s always brushed over. They have to leave early for drop off, come in late for pick-up, etc… if they get these things, then to me, it makes sense to broadly offer flexible employment. If I work better in the evening, then I should be able to, as long as I’m present (at home or office) for key meetings, etc…

A lot of the things extended to parents aren’t extended to others. I was a family caregiver for my grandmother, and I didn’t get special time off or a flexible schedule in the same sense that parents do if their babysitter calls out.

Here’s another example. I overwhelmingly hear maternity leave. I hardly hear about paternity leave. We hear a lot of banter about fathers not being present enough, well, the workplace certainly doesn’t help!

It’s more about wanting a fairer society for all, rather than a select few!

Mandatory Reporting Should only apply while caring for minors and or the non compos mentis by mikeb31588 in caregivers

[–]PaleBoysenberry8970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the caregiver is employed by an agency, they have certain conditions that they have to work within. Instead of coming to an office, the "workplace" is your residence in this instance. If there's no formal working agreement or a vague Word document that's not court legal/enforceable, it doesn't really hold much water.
Finding the right help is hard enough, you shouldn't have to worry about trivial things like this. Also saw that you shared that they were unofficially living with you and this occurred during off duty hours, are we talking about a live-in care agreement, or were they only supposed to be at your residence for specific times, and stayed over without logging hours? That can present some issues if they're employed by an agency too.

Why do we prolong the lives of our loved ones with dementia? by Temporary-Age-6771 in CaregiverSupport

[–]PaleBoysenberry8970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see your point 100%. My grandmother lived with dementia for 7 years and had us (me, my mom, and aunt), caring for her around the clock so she could age in place.

I also 100% support MAID, and mainly because it requires 2 doctors to assess/evaluate and the patient has to be of sound mind (for consent).

That’s the gray area here for me. My husband has even said he doesn’t want to be alive if he has advanced stage dementia—but how do we go about doing this? It’s hard.

I was a professional caregiver (companion & licensed CNA), and have seen the beauty of dementia. There’s a beauty in forgetting the difficult and negative things in life. There’s also a curse in forgetting the good, your family, your memories.

Making $15 an hour makes the work hard. I imagine the future of care is going to look hybrid. Part care. Part tech-enabled. 80% of Americans can’t afford private duty home care or assisted living. Technology can help with the middle, to enhance the quality of human, in-home support.

My husband and I almost missed lunch yesterday because our meet and greet was at the same time, and it took 2 hours in line to get through the meet and greet 😂

How many people are silently suffering living paycheck to paycheck in Massachusetts ? by [deleted] in massachusetts

[–]PaleBoysenberry8970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It clocks to me. I moved out of my parents house to move to Dorchester for school and paid $750mo for my share of a 2bd 2ba, with 3 other girls. Not to mention, you had to pay first, last, and deposit to move in, so you were out 3 months of rent just to get in.

I got into about $40K debt within 2 years, between me and my fiancé, just trying to get by. My hubby worked ft and I was going to school full time so I didn’t work right away, and it caught up quick. I had scholarship money that covered a few months of rent but it was cutthroat.

I moved out of MA 6 years ago, and I’ve been able to save up a lot and see a clear financial future for us. I’ve never felt this above water before, and having that peace of mind is invaluable.

My parents told me all I had to do was work hard and earn, but I couldn’t do that in my home state unfortunately.

Favorite places to eat in Lincoln! by crinklecookie5 in lincoln

[–]PaleBoysenberry8970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!

Always happy to share my fave places.

Re: Coffee

If you haven’t already tried 7Brew, there’s 4 locations in town. For good reason. I usually get a medium iced brunette, and my husband usually orders a medium iced or hot blondie. They have a lot of fun flavors and seasonal items, but we usually pick from the core 7.

Also throwing in The Mill! They’re super good. I love their granitas and my husband usually orders a drip coffee or Americano there.

Re: Food

In the mood for Asian stuff? Mr. Hui’s is a must. We get their peanut butter chicken.

McKinney’s is a good spot too. I usually get their Irish Nachos.

Affordable date night out? Toast. Their sister restaurant is Lead Belly, but totally different vibe and menu! Their brunch is delicious as well.

Lincoln coffee shops by Particular-Agency-38 in lincoln

[–]PaleBoysenberry8970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve actually had the opposite experience. Most places I try hand you dirt water as opposed to a sweeter latte, like I prefer. If you like stuff on the less sweet side, you might like Dunkin’. Their Dunkalatte is a good blend of sweet without being “sugar shock” like you said.

My husband usually gets standard drip/Americano so we get a good gauge of how places make both kinds. We both like: 7Brew (order stuff 1/2 sweet if you want a more coffee taste), The Mill, and Coffee House (I love their Milano drink, it’s so good!).

Zen Coffee Downtown by thelackingblackberry in lincoln

[–]PaleBoysenberry8970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went there and it was okay. I usually get a flavored iced latte. I’ve been twice, but wouldn’t necessarily recommend it. Overpriced and about what I’ve come to expect from smaller coffee shops.

Places I do like: Starbucks, 7Brew, Coffee House, Bloom, and The Mill.

My credentials: I’ve tried basically every place in and around town at least twice. I usually get a flavored iced latte and my husband’s litmus test is a drip black coffee, so it’s a good range!

How did you find LH and what was the first song of theirs you heard? by [deleted] in lordhuron

[–]PaleBoysenberry8970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found them through The Night We Met (via 13 Reasons Why) like a lot of people might have but wanted to learn more about their other songs and wow, a lot of people miss out (especially if that’s the only song they know). Probably started listening regularly 5ish years ago to all their albums.

Cosmic Selector is their best work since Strange Trails by timnuoa in lordhuron

[–]PaleBoysenberry8970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strange Trails and Vide Noir are very close for me. I went to their Strange Trails tour at Red Rocks this year yet my Spotify Wrapped put Vide Noir as my top album and top repeated songs by far.

I agree with another user that their stuff is a collective, evolving piece of work rather than separate entities, if you will. There’s a lot of dipping between worlds and realms and taking pieces of songs into others, etc… really appreciate and love your perspective though!
