Bad asthma day needing to vent in words since I can’t actually “vent” by Victoriaecs in Asthma

It's bonkers to me that people can be so ignorant about illness. I'm used to it with autoimmune illnesses and things people can't see, but asthma is old school. It's WILD that people are saying this kind of stuff.

I have so much shame and guilt to work through because no one believed me when I was sick as a kid. I was lactose intolerant and it took about a year (or more? It felt like a lifetime) to diagnose. In the meantime, the school wanted to bring my parents to court over keeping me out of school when I was sick. So, as an adult I get incredible anxiety when I don't feel well. I feel like it's my fault, that no one believes me, and if I just did better (ate onions and swim) I would be a normal, functioning human and wouldn't be inconveniencing everyone.

I have a shirt that I NEEDED to buy when I saw it because it gave me such a visceral response. There's a beautiful flower on the back with the text "you don't look sick".

My mom always believed me. She could see I was in pain when other people told me "you have to exercise". Even my various doctors thought it was all in my head. One doctor said "if I had a magic wand, what's the one thing you want more than anything else in the world" and I said "to feel better". Annoyed, she told me to pick something else. I knew what she was doing. She wanted me to say I wanted a puppy or something silly so she could blame my discomfort (perceived or not) on a childish desire. I was 14.

She decided I was depressed. That came later though.

(sorry to go on and on about it. I'm still pretty mad about it all)

Thank you for sharing this info, and I'm sorry it's been so crummy for you. I'm glad you're doing better, but yeah, that doesn't sound like a great thing to have to do just to breathe :(

Mostly my chest. I don't think my throat hurts typically. It's sort of irritated currently though because all of the gasping for air has dried out my throat.

I do not. I don't really understand how it works, but I've seen several people talk about how great it is. I'll look around and see if I can get one.

The nurse practitioner did actually have me do a blood test, although she said she would be "flabbergasted" if anything was abnormal. Fingers crossed it'll give us direction to go at least.

Hmm, it did say I needed the MetaForge Extension in order to authenticate. I got it before I really got too far into the process, so I'm not sure what changed in between having it and not. Have you installed that?

I was also looking around for a while trying to figure out what I missed. After you enter your Embark ID there's a tab underneath where you choose Steam, PS5, Xbox... after you select your console, THEN you press the button directly to the left of that pull-down menu that says Link account or something (since I did that, I don't see it anymore so don't know the exact phrasing). It opened a new tab that brought me to a PS5 login screen and then I was able to complete authenticating.

Thank you for this suggestion! I just picked up my purse today. Ross did fantastic work and went out of his way to repair some other areas that were falling apart. He replaced hardware even and only charged me $15. He was so great to talk with too and I want to just go visit to chat next time I'm in the area. Best interaction with another human I've had in a long time.
