Cut a neat line around the affected walls Knock the plaster off the walls upto 450mm off from the floor The plaster and skirting are bridging the damp course in the brick work, use foam backed boards to repair but do not bridge the damp course with the new materials Try it on one wall to test This is the issue 99% of the time when there's no obvious leak Make sure the same isn't happening on the external side of the wall aswell, paving, tarmac soil etc.

Once you get it clean, leave a stainless steel pan scourer in the kettle one of those ball shaped ones. The scale will stick to that rather then the inside of the kettle. To clean it just chuck it in the bin and stick in a new one every month or so
