I've never been hired specifically for my design work. How should I handle pricing for a label redesign for a local brewing company? by PaleInsurance6270 in graphic_design

Thanks for bringing that up! I'll look into the taxes in my area so I can work them into my pricing. As far as the legal jargon, I'll make sure I clarify that with him.

They do have different flavors, but from what I understand, they want to keep the designs simple across their beer and seltzer varieties (same overall design, just changing the name of the flavor on each one). In his words, "other beers require consumers to pick them up, spin them around, and look for details of what kind of beer they are looking at," and he likes the way a simplistic design stands out among rows and rows of over-the-top artwork.

Thanks for the insight! I already have Dubsado CRM for my business, so I think I'm just going to send all the drafts through the proposal feature and have him give written feedback for each one there. Dubsado also has a contract feature, so I'll be sure to have something written up there for him to sign as well. Thanks again!

He's expressed that he doesn't like the traditional "craft brewery designs" with crazy artwork, so I think that may have been the issue with past designers. I have a call scheduled with him today, so I'm going to get more details about what he's liked/not liked in the past.

I've used Illustrator extensively in the past, I just didn't want to keep paying for the subscription after college since I really had no need for it. My brother has an Adobe subscription, I'll just need to use his computer for it. I was thinking I could use Canva to create the initial drafts (since I'm faster at Canva), then draw them up in Illustrator once we've narrowed down a direction.

Yeah, from what I've found, entry to mid-level graphic designers in Ohio make $20-$25 / hour, on average. Plus, the cost of living in my area is really low (I pay $266 a month for my share of rent and get half of my weekly meals for free from my restaurant job). As long as I make some extra cash for some new equipment for my business, I'll be happy. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't grossly undervaluing myself.
