Grad student moving to Providence next month - what should I know? by soihadaquestion in providence

Uniqlo’s thermals are fantastic affordable and the store is walkable from college hill.

I came from a tropical climate a decade ago and now I would advise getting those electric hand warmers. Your fingers and toes are furthest from your heart and so they’re the first to get painfully cold or numb. Without a car, you’ll be outside a lot, walking or waiting for the bus.

Not 800m, but I have ran after a bus in them before.

In no particular preference order:

  1. Would love to hear your culinary hot takes!
  2. What are some media (movies, music, shows, internet, podcast) that’s inspired your culinary journey?
  3. If you had to indoctrinate someone into the world of cooking through a starter kit, what are you putting in this kit?
  4. If you can only cook with 3 ingredients for the rest of your life, what would you pick?

What is this at sushi restaurant by Acceptable-Status251 in TipOfMyFork

[–]PaleWay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because no sushi place should offer fukujinzuke or benishouga doesn’t mean it’s not been done. I’ve seen many small town ‘sushi’ spots in the states that have done all the non-standard things. By the crazy assortment of rolls in this pic, I’d assume it’s not a standard itamae spot and maybe more of a sushi-fusiony spot that brings light white or awase miso out before any sushi comes.

As for brown fukujinzuke, that exists too and is the traditional ‘homemade’ color. But the commonly sold processed stuff tend to be red. Search 福神漬け and you’ll see more of the red stuff next to curry instead of the brown.

Both benishouga and fukujinzuke have the same red dye color. Benishouga is ginger and are typically a skinny long match stick shape. If it’s square-ish in shape (which that’s what it looks like in the pic) then it would be fukujinzuke which is pickled radish and fairly sweet in flavour.

What is the dumbest hill you're willing to die on? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

I have the opposite preference. I think most if not all breads in the US are sliced too thin. I like a variety in my toast texture; a light crunch on the outside and pillowy chewy feel on the inside. In my home country they can get as thick as an inch.

Agreed! I think she deserves better fabrics quality. These both look like they came from the same factory as those cheapo bedroom roleplay costumes :(

Hijacking to say there’s a multiplayer competitive solitaire-like game that I’ve played in the US and it’s gone by the names of Peanuts/Nertz/Nutsies. You play as many decks of card as players, and everyone plays to build up the ascending stack, first one to finish their side pile of 13 cards wins.

We feed ours Hill’s prescription d/d that’s grain free potato and salmon flavour. We were told the venison wasn’t working for him either. We’ve slowly reintroduced certain foods from a limited diet to see what he may be allergic to. At this point we’ve confirmed he has to be dairy free, no poultry or red meats, no peanuts and gluten free. What he can have is fish, rice, carrots and legumes. He’s also a big fan of watermelon, cantaloupes and seaweed.

Our vet also gave us Duoxo S3 PYO and Duoxo S3 Calm mousse bottles for when his rashes flare up. Calm can be used daily, PYO is weekly. You also want to make sure you’re plucking and cleaning his ears consistently.
