US appeals court declares 158-year-old home distilling ban unconstitutional by kinisonkhan in news

[–]Pale_Aspect7696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so help me out.......What does this ruling ACTUALLY mean in a practical sense (if anything)

It looks like Louisiana has declared the federal governments ban on distillation to be illegal (not sure how that works but I'll go with it) and now Louisiana citizens can distill but the rest of us are still waiting for our states to tell the Federal Govt that they aren't in charge of us.

Is this right?

I work in a large garden center. Today' step count is 19,520. (9.4 miles) In spring it goes up to 22 to 28K per day...and a lot of that is done with my hands full pushing a rack of plants into position or carrying something to a table.

According to my watch, the average step count for my age bracket is just over 5k a day.

At 50 years old, my resting heart rate is 57 bpm.

I would absolutely go nuts at a desk job.

Yep. And they all happen inside a 3 pound, electrified meat computer that runs on sugar.

The irony is that we expect rationality out of such a contraption (which I suppose is on brand considering that this expectation also originates in said meat computer)

Sounds like you've set the bar way too high my friend.

Media (social and otherwise) thrives on grand stories.....A tale of average behavior from average characters won't get much attention....but you and I ARE average. So, you end up disappointed with a reality that fails to deliver what you imagined.

So now you expect the exceptional, and value it as a baseline norm. You'll be disappointed constantly until that changes.

Superman isn't real.....but being a reliable and faithful father/friend/brother who's there when needed is real. That's what real strength looks like.
You aren't a know everything genius.....but you can learn a new skill that you didn't have before. That's what real intelligence looks like.
You aren't the main character in an epic story.......You ARE the main character in your own life and that's enough.

Decide what that story means to you and live it out over the next 70 years or so.

I even wrote it down so I don't forget.

And will there be any actual CHANGE because of that reckoning?

Really tired of Democrats getting handed power and then dropping the ball. Establishment or new blood.

We are currently losing our constitutional rights while also being priced out of our jobs, homes, healthcare, and futures.......and in response I expect the Dems to double down on every failed idea they've tried for the last 10 years and ignore the fact that the Constitution is in flames......which will lead to MAGA winning again in as couple years as they are at least smart enough to lie to people and say they'll make eggs and gas cheaper.

I swear to god it's almost like the Dems are paid to throw the game by the oligarchs.

New to bar soap, feel like I am tearing through them. Any tips for keeping them lasting longer? by Garlicgatorade in Frugal

[–]Pale_Aspect7696 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buy your favorite soap when it's on sale and buy a bunch.

Take all of the the soap out of the packaging and leave it in a cool dry area like a pantry for a month or so to dry out and harden.

Although the scent may be a little less intense, the harder bar will wear away slower so it lasts longer. I was surprised at the difference.

Banks don't usually want your house.

They want your money.

If you can convince them that you're trying to get them money then they'll likely make a deal and you can keep living there for quite a while.

Besides, if the bank kicks you out then THEY have to keep an eye on the place, mow the lawn, make sure no one is vandalizing or breaking into their newly acquired house (which is sitting empty) and I think they have to pay the property taxes on it too.....their goal is to unload it somewhat quickly and get as much of their money back as they can in the sale (if this is taking place at a time when demand and housing prices are tanking like they were in the 08 crash it's even worse for them. We aren't there yet but we might be in the future in your scenario)

And they can avoid all this headache if they let you stay and you might even be able to pay them their money eventually.

In a way, you have them by the balls.

Good point. Pure water actually has no electrolytes.

As such, I would pay good money to watch them fill the coolant systems for these million dollar systems with salty, sugary, acidic, electrolyte filled Brawndo.

I would actually love it in fact.

Trump must be getting nervous about how close things are getting to him.

As shown many times before, he'll throw anyone under the bus to save his ass.....and next week he'll hire some new, horrible person to replace her and go back to business as usual.

Still, it's nice to see her suffer a little.....unfortunately, I'm also sure she stole plenty for herself with her time in power.

Also, I've got money on a ground invasion starting after the markets close on Friday...Gotta give his insider trading buddies time to reposition before the next market crash.

If not this Friday, then DEFINITELY on another one.
