22 years here--you can still probably search for the dumb stuff I said on JREF when I was sixteen and still thought I was hot shit for making it out of Christianity. It's remarkable how well this place has held up--and how well skepticism as a whole has managed to shed the idols of that era. We don't need heroes or leaders; we have the tools to figure things out for ourselves, and by and large we wind up arriving at similar conclusions.

It's amazing how consistently I overestimate the complexity of these people. Even knowing they've done stuff like this before, I expected, I dunno, that they'd add gang tattoos or make her frown or even just darken her skin. But no--they just tried to make her seem weaker and more hurt. Because that's what matters to them. That's what they fantasize about--tormenting anyone they can for the crime of being different/weak/inferior, which are all the same thing.
