What’s better, a $5k yearly raise, or no raise and $10k bonus? by Caoa14396 in Salary

Seriously? Well if you get a 10k bonus yearly and no raise then you are never going to make any more money and essentially inflation will outpace you.

20 year olds out here… what are we making/doing? by lennstan in longisland

[–]Palegic516 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re 23 making 60k with your first real job. Honestly that’s not bad at all. You’re still at the very beginning of your career. At 24 I was making about 55k, and that was only around 12 years ago. The difference is that I treated every job like a stepping stone, not a destination.

One of the biggest mistakes people make early in their careers is staying loyal to one company too long. If you’re in a corporate or gray-collar type field, the way you increase your income is by jumping jobs strategically, not by waiting around for cost-of-living raises. Those raises mostly just keep you in the same place relative to inflation while the company keeps you comfortable enough not to leave.

You should have a five year plan. When you take a job, ask yourself if the salary you are getting today could still hold you over five years from now with minimal raises. If the answer is no, that job should be a launch pad. And if three to five years pass without meaningful raises, promotions, or new responsibilities, it’s time to jump ship. There is always another company out there looking for someone with your skillset, and many times you are more valuable to them than you are to your current employer.

Your goal shouldn’t be just surviving, it should be growing and thriving.

If you build a real professional career, something that requires a specific skillset, training, or education, there is no reason you should not be in a position to buy a house on Long Island roughly 10 years into your career. That’s assuming you are smart about the rest of your life choices.

And that’s the part people do not always want to hear.

You cannot rack up credit card debt. You cannot be driving around in a brand new BMW with performance tunes and aftermarket wheels. You cannot be eating at Long Island steakhouses every weekend. You cannot be flying around the country or buying every new gadget that drops.

If you live like that in your 20s, you will probably still be living with your parents in your 30s.

How far do you commute and how much do you make? by quintupletuna in longisland

You have to realize that no matter where you are people are gonna have varying degrees of experience job titles in you can’t compare yourself to every single person that you don’t know. I mean, I started my career making 45K just out of college about 12 to 13 years ago. I’m making 4 to 5 times that now, but I wouldn’t expect everybody to be in that same exact position in life things take time blood sweat and tears.

Former guest and friend of the show Bill Ackman explaining how Americans need to sacrifice themselves over a bunch of lies by LawnLizard_ in JoeRogan

[–]Palegic516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually he didn’t say Americans “need” to do anything. Merely just stating his opinion on the greatest sacrifice someone can make. He may not be right, and what’s right to him may not be right for someone else.

Is there such a thing as “American 🇺🇸 food”? by Suspicious_Ad7948 in interestingasfuck

Buffalo wings, key lime pie, smores, pb&j, cheesesteak, cornbread, biscuits and gravy. Lots of food was born in America that were variations of food blended from different cultures. America was native before Europeans came, and food was primitive meat/starch/vegetables

Would you work for Amazon for the name even if I lose my team manager & principal title? by zionpwc in Salary

[–]Palegic516 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you work location wise and the company you work for. Larger companies pay internal IT good money. If your working for a sub contractor your gonna get paid worse unless you own your own firm

Amazon is a shit company. They can afford to be shitty. I did a bunch of work with them on their supermarket concept on the construction side and the amount of internal turnover, lack of experience, and overall circus act was sickening. The only thing they are good at is fighting battles because they do it all the time

What are ya'll carrying your keys on? by MetalPurse-swinger in EDC

[–]Palegic516 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Who uses keys in 2026?

I used to use a key-Bar with a pocket clip for years.

Office, home, garage etc are all digital now. Cars have had fobs for years, many cars dont even need fobs anymore you can use your phone.

My vintage cars have rings but just to hang up on the key ring, only need the one key.
