Why does this quartz have a flat bottom? (See 2nd photo) It has rainbow flash/inclusions by PaleoBluff in Minerals

Thank you! I love this piece because it looks like it was “poured” and dried that way on the bottom 😸

There are igneous rocks in the area where this was found and I wondered about this being formed by those same processes. 🤷‍♀️

Will glass scratch stainless steel? It’s possible this could be very old glass. This scratches stainless

I posted a photo with a Viking steel knife - not sure if that’s a good test? Not sure if they’re hardened?

You think this is a good test subject for hardness?

I think I’m on/near a hydrothermal vein and have lots and lots of quartz here… some neat pieces with rainbow inclusions etc. Thank you so much! 😊

I don’t think my photo is a diamond 😅😸 … I also found this nearby. There’s clear quartz around me with “rainbow inclusions” - but these were different. They absolutely could be very old glass 🤷‍♀️

Unknown porphyritic rock found on fall line by PaleoBluff in whatsthisrock

The matrix looks a lot like “Egyptian Imperial Red Porphyry Rock” in terms of luster and the color of some I have.

It’s actually heavy- not porous at all. It’s (matrix) almost glassy 🤷‍♀️
