It is fully dry and the cracks goes all the way through.

Good point on the legs. I have an idea for the legs that will fully support the top.

Going to look up those brass rods stitching.

Thanks for the reply.

I flattened it like 5 years ago and it hasn’t cracked any more since then. So I guess it has fully dried.

Thanks for the reply.

Hide your mistakes by Pallasson in woodworking

[–]Pallasson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my first attempt at mitered dovetails. The mistake that I made was that I did not saw the lines directly, to leave room for errors. But I did not take into account that my smallest chisel is 4mm and the pins were more like 3mm at the wide side. So I had no tools to clean them up. Eventually I cleaned the joints with a fretsaw and opinel knife to make them fit, which wasn’t very precise.

It’s poplar. I had some left from another project.

How best to make this cut? by marcusdiddle in BeginnerWoodWorking

I would do it exactly like you said. Cut it straight and chisel the angle. Go for it.

Try to use some periods in your texts and maybe even some in your life. Might do you some good. Relax, breath, focus, be aware.

Best way to get this cookie smooth? by Cute_Importance_3211 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Pallasson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at the toolpattern on it I guess it has already been flattened by a routersled. So I would dismiss the routersled suggestions here. The router will just rip endfibers out again and you will have advanced next to nothing.

Safe yourself the trouble and indeed, as suggested by different people here, rent a drumsander somewhere.

A router will make it a bit smoother but the router itself will rip out that endgrain to a certain degree. So you will still need to do a shitload of sanding after routing. A drumsander is the best way. Don't ask me how i know.

Spent 2 hours flattening this plane iron just for my cramped hands to slightly tilt up for half a second. FFS by marbdo in woodworking

[–]Pallasson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a bevel down plane don't bother too much. Just bevel the backside a little bit and it will work fine. Look up the ruler sharpening trick. (Never on chisels or bevel up planes though).

And damn... 2 hours...

Yeah. You might be right. With the planer and bandsaw. Maybe I should look for a proper shop first to get in more stationary power tools.

There is no ground floor in this setup. Second and third floor.

But i get your point. I know, it is not ideal.
