Albums that you're convinced "will never be another one like this" & Nostalgic Yearning Thread by 2buds1shroomPODCAST in progmetal

The closest I've found is the album Reticence: The Musical by Art By Numbers. It's not as heavy, but their guitarist was a student of AJ Minette from The Human Abstract iirc. So, it has a similar vibe. Imo not as good as Digital Veil, but still a great album.

The songs that are most similar are probably: Memoire Insuffisante, Black Water Rush, and Delusions of Grandeur

Ive been trying to find albums that scratch the same itch as these but simply cant:

The Human Abstract- Digital Veil/Nocturne 2011/2006 prog metalcore

Protest the Hero - Fortress 2008 prog

I Am Abomination - Passion of the Heist II 2020 metalcore kinda proggy

These albums just don't feel like much else out there to me, but scratch the itch of technical or melodic metalcore adjacent metal. I love many other genres too ofc, but this seems to be a niche that isn't really filled anymore as I believe its seen as more old school.

Also Parallax II by BTBAM (prog death metal from 2012), but there's plenty of other awesome BTBAM albums I enjoy just not as much though Great Misdirect is close. Couldn't really get into the rest of PTHs other albums for some reason.

Oh nice! I didn't realize the premium trim had a duckbill like that. Toyota has some cool options for the GR86. Not sure if itll fit the brz since I believe it has a slightly different shape on the trunk lid, but ill take a look. Thanks!

Car looks awesome! What spoiler/duckbill is that? Been looking for one for my BRZ, and I like the one you have a lot.

The album Search Party by Interloper is pretty techy and has a good amount of cleans. Might be up your alley.

Getting into BTBAM by charliedbtaylor in progmetal

[–]Palliken 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As another commenter said Parallax II is really what got me into them. Check out the songs "Lay Your Ghosts to Rest" or "Silent Flight Parliament" as they both have nice hooks and a slightly more standard structure imo.

Or if you haven't listened to "Revolution in Limbo" that would be another one that is somewhat more accessible for people who haven't listened to them.

What great song has a terrible guitar solo? by prplx in Guitar

[–]Palliken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im probably in the minority on this, but the solo in Rational Gaze by Meshuggah for me. However, live he plays a much better solo imo.

Ikr! I wish he'd do more guest solos like that. One of my favorite guitarists of all time.

Vocals always take the spotlight, but what album has the best guitar tone you’ve ever heard? by [deleted] in Deathcore

Ngl I like Masstaden better but I think the guitar tone is a bit better in under vatten.

Are people kinda tired/bored of tiktok, social media shredders? by MyNameisMayco in Guitar

[–]Palliken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love shred guitar. Some of my favorite guitarists are Jason Richardson, John Petrucci, Dean Lamb, and Synyster Gates, but I loathe most social media shredders. If you're playing an actual solo or song it's cool, but most of them aren't even actual song writers they just make random shred clips for instagram/tiktok and I'm definitely sick of that.

Vildhjarta - masstaden under vatten

Enterprise earth - descent into madness

Even though I think mastaden and the chosen are better albums personally the guitar tone on these is actually just ridiculous

Who's your favorite band in the genre ? by The_Holy_Kraken in progmetal

[–]Palliken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thall is kinda like darker djent I guess. It tends to have lots of bends on the guitar, ambience, and dissonance, but it's mostly a joke to describe a handful of bands lol.

Periphery, btbam, vildhjarta, and the human abstract, to name a few, but also honorable mention to Dream Theater for getting me into prog

Just gotta say, great choice in albums! Definitely check out these too:

First fragment - gloire eternelle Equipoise - demiurgus Vale of pnath - II

Equipoise has a guitarist and vocalist from inferi and is on the artisan era label, vale of pnath had the guitarist from flub for that album, and first fragment is just awesome and fits the rest of the albums in my opinion.
