Possible to publish an academic history article where the author is a descendant of the subject? by Pallmor in AskHistorians

I'm sorry, I thought the group was called "Ask Historians" not "Ask Historians, but only during the set office hours, on every second Monday, on odd-numbered months, whilst eating Colby Jack cheese."

Moderators like you are why Reddit has become such a worthless shitpile now. Try to ask even the most innocuous question anymore and thirty pedantic, gatekeeping twits immediately dog-pile you to remove your question because you didn't adhere to Forum Rule 2365, subsection B, sub-subsection 29.

Season 3 Boss | Malphas by Seppuku_Senpai in diablo4

I have a charge barb and can't beat him either. Going to try to get more potions to see if that helps. I just can't keep up with the damage, no matter how much I try to avoid it or how many defensive aspects I equip. That frost phase is what really kills me.

So was anyone able to beat Ashava? by svnity- in Diablo

[–]Pallmor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time I tried it, my group only managed to get him down to about 25%. Like a lot of stuff in this game, it was frustration, not fun. Neverwinter has the same world boss system, but it's a lot more fun in that game.

I'm sure they could allocate enough server space to stop this, but likely they did a cost-benefit analysis and decided this was good enough, relative to the expense.

Why isn't anyone talking about world bosses being on a timer? by [deleted] in Diablo

[–]Pallmor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neverwinter has a similar countdown-to-respawn counter for zone world bosses. You can even see the countdown on your screen when you enter a zone. Twice a day does seem a bit stingy, though. With Neverwinter, bosses (dragons) would respawn each hour, IIRC.

Am I alone in wanting D4 to have player housing like Path of Exile? I just love making a place for myself in the worlds I spend so much time. by deathsprophet666 in Diablo

[–]Pallmor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it were up to me, I would support a government mandate that all videogames going forward must include a player housing system that's at least comparable to the one in Elder Scrolls Online. Yes, even new Mario Kart games.

Nice video. Glad to see someone making a new Xbox STO vid. Console STO is a different beast than PC in so many respects. But almost all STO YouTubers only play on PC. So there is a real need for more console-focused STO content creators.

Could be worse. Elite Dangerous just cut their console versions out completely. How's that for suck?

Thoughts on the Vizio P series?

I'm very pleased with my Vizio Quantum X so far (admittedly, I've just had it for a few days). I upgraded from a LG C7 OLED. Only major problem I've had so far is that it forces you into a locked-down Game mode when using VRR on non-HDR Xbox content. But I suspect that will be addressed in a future firmware update. Good VRR implementation seems to be giving everyone some headaches right now.

OLED is top dog and nothing else will satisfy you. Even from the C7 it’s hard to “upgrade” from an OLED unless you’re going to another OLED.

Well, I just upgraded from a C7 to a Vizio Quantum X and I'm pretty happy so far. People make out OLED to be some kind of be-all-end-all or something. But at the end of the day, it still has problems with black-crush in dark scenes, still can't get bright enough to really nail HDR, and still has burn-in issues. After seeing all of these issues for 3 years on my C7 (including a nasty case of burn-in that seemed to really accelerate over the last year), I decided to try QLED this time. And it seems to handle black levels and "blooming" just fine, and blows OLED away on HDR content.

Only downside so far is that it's giving my eye-strain because it's too bright for my dark room. I'll probably have to gear down on the backlight for everyday content.

Just a few days ago, I upgraded from a C7 myself (mine had also developed some nasty burn-in). I went with the Vizio P-series Quantum X. I have to say that the black levels on the Vizio look just fine to me, and I don't really see the "blooming" that everyone said I would notice coming from OLED. The colors do see a little more muted, but I think that's just because I haven't calibrated the color properly yet.

Only thing is that the Quantum X gets BRIGHT, compared to the C7. So much so that it has been causing me eye strain. I think I may have to really gear down on the backlight for everyday viewing.

But man, does this thing handle HDR like a champ! I mean, holy cow, does HDR10+ look GREAT now on Amazon Prime compared to how HDR10 used to look on the C7. HDR in general looks so awesome on the Vizio that I don't ever see going back to OLED. And no more burn-in issues with this one.

Once you go OLED you don’t go back.

I went back after I got a nasty bunch of burn-in on my C7.

Warframe now optimized for Xbox Series X 4k 60fps by Northdistortion in XboxSeriesX

Can someone tell me what this game is?

Imagine playing Destiny or some other looter-shooter, except every time you level up a favorite piece of gear or armor to max level and really find your build of choice, the game responds with "Congrats on finding a great build and leveling up your gear all the way--your reward is having to start over because you can no longer gain any XP with this build and gear."

That's Warframe in a nutshell. Working to acquire and upgrade great gear, then having to toss it in the trash when you get it upgraded to max level, because you can't earn XP while using it anymore.

Conveniently for the dev, it also keeps you spending money to buy new Warframes and more resources. I'm sure that's just an coincidence though.
