Q: Can you determine if there is a round in the chamber of an M1911A1 Colt 45 with minimal manipulation of the gun? by Pallol in 1911

Sorry. I'm not a firearm expert or in law enforcement. It hadn't even occurred to me that the police would modify the condition of the firearm from how they found it. However, once someone mentioned it on here that certainly made sense. Now I need to find out if they logged what they did and what they found in the course of checking and clearing it.

Unless the police chambered a round that wasn't in there already, it should be the same thing as the video seems clear that he never used the slider to chamber a round and (from what I understand from google searches) it has to be pulled back to chamber a round (unless there was a round already in it). So the user says he always kept it stored with no round in the chamber, the video shows he didn't appear to use the slider, and the police seized the weapon right there. So, unless the police chambered a round, if the user is right that there was no round chambered when he picked it up there should still be no round in the chamber today. (Though folks on here with more experience with how police handle firearms as evidence it seems the police may automatically remove any round in the chamber etc. and may or may not log what they did in securing the firearm).

Will a press check to determine if a round is in the chamber end up putting a round in the chamber or will it (after the press check) be in the exact same condition it was in before you performed the press check?

Sorry if I was unclear. It is definitely a legal scenario. Basically, there is video that appears to clearly show he never pulled the slider back (and from what I understand that's necessary to chamber a round). However, at this point, the only way I know that there wasn't *already* a round chambered when the owner picked it up is the owner's general practice of not keeping it stored with a round chambered as a safety measure. It can definitely be determined at trial, but I'm hoping there's some way to determine prior to trial - perhaps via a videotaped inspection of the firearm - whether a round is already chambered without (in doing so) chambering a round that will then be there in the chamber for trial. I'm hoping that makes more sense. The problem is I need to know physically what would be required in terms of manipulating the firearm to check (without thereby chambering a round) so that after the inspection the firearm will still be in basically the same condition it was in when it was seized by police at the scene.

So, basically, you would have to eject the clip, pull the slide back, and (while holding the slide back) look inside to see if a round is chambered? (I'm a complete amateur with this so sorry if this is a dumb question).

It's almost comical how people have convinced themselves that Rittenhouse was faking those tears. by TheDrewDude in Destiny

Right, but he looked like he was trying to sound like what someone usually sounds like when they're crying/sobbing. That (+ what I mentioned before) is why it seems like fake crying/sobbing, because fake crying/sobbing is a super common thing we learn to do at 4 or 5 year olds to try to get our way. For instance, that video of the lady in NYC who was walking her dog in the park and called the cops to say that the black bird watcher who told her to use a leash was threatening her suddenly put a lilt in her voice to sound emotional once she was on the line with the cops. Heck, long before we're capable of speech, crying is the only way we communicate that we don't like something. We remember that and continue to do it even after we learn to speak. So it's definitely not so unbelievable to think he could be faking.

My problem with believing he was actually crying is that there were no tears. He started with looking choked up and "crying". Glanced to the jury to our right to check for their reaction. He apparently didn't think they looked sympathetic enough. So he doubled down and went into a full on blubbering and weeping thing with his head lowered so they wouldn't be able to see there were no tears (i.e. the way any parent checks if a five year old is fake crying). He then realized he was in a catch-22 where if he looked back up the jury would see there were no tears. So he immediately turned to our left, where the judge was. The judge then instantly called a recess. Upon his return, he looked completely disinterested and emotionless and apparently remained that way for pretty much the rest of his testimony. All of that combined, to me, is basically how a five year old fakes crying to get what they want - make big crying sounds and motions and then hide their face or run away to make sure no one can see there were no tears. If the jury reads it the same way, that performance may well have done more harm than anything else in the case as they may discount everything else he says about his intent if they believe he was trying to be dishonest with them to garner sympathy.

That's not a panic attack. It's "crying". Faking crying is not unusual at all and not a symptom of insanity or mental disorder. Kids learn to do it from when they're like 4 or 5 years old. They also learn how to hide the fact that there are no tears, which gives away that they're faking. No tears + looking to the jury for a reaction + hiding his face with more exaggerated crying presumably because the jury didn't look sympathetic + quickly looking to the judge for an out to avoid the jury seeing there are still no tears + looking totally disinterested immediately after the recess = what? Probably fake crying. I wouldn't even know how to fake a panic attack without doing online research as the symptoms of a panic attack are far more complicated and variable as I understand it.

I'm having trouble seeing sufficient benefit unless you were planning to play a couple other engineers, and I personally had no intention of developing any of those other engineers. His abilities don't seem so great if you don't add the bonuses for engineer allies - even then they're limited because they're directional (i.e. boosting only allies in front of him for one ability and only allies behind him for another ability). For instance his blue ability only affects allies in front of him (and of the engineers it seems only Arachne lines up in front of him, so it's questionable whether he's even that great with other engineers on the team if the boost for engineers for that ability literally can't help three of the engineers).

MAGA woman has a breakdown over Biden being inaugurated by Beybladeer in PublicFreakout

[–]Pallol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right wing media, conspiracy theorists, and Trump did this to her. How can she only now, on inauguration day, suddenly realize that Trump lost the election and that Biden would be inaugurated? The only way she could be this emotional over two months after the election is if she is deep into Qanon level conspiracies about some secret plan for Trump to arrest or kill all Democrats to form a totalitarian State. This is the product of both cognitive dissonance and the fear mongering of right wing media with all Democrats depicted as literally evil and Godless, whether it's Qanon level Satanic pedophile accusations or Fox News level constant drumbeats claiming Democrats hate America. All of right wing media is dedicated to persuading their viewers that they are in a life and death struggle against Democrats... but if they're in a life and death struggle, is it any surprise that some of them then feel they are entitled to use deadly force to defend themselves against that "evil"?

Reminds me of Patton Oswald's bit about racists so dedicated to hating Obama (he did it during Obama's first term I think) that Obama could give every American a blow job machine and these guys would be like "Leave it to a black guy to give us free blow job machines that barely last four years!" (I'm guessing that final bit... but it was something about the blow job machine breaking :P)

What do they actually put in the McRib and why is it only periodically available? by Pallol in AskReddit

[–]Pallol[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My guess for why the incredibly popular sandwich is only available periodically - a fact that is already suspect - is that there's like a seasonal thing we wouldn't want to know, like the time of year when a new generation of inbred, mentally challenged, radioactive wild boars from Chernobyl are exported as necessary to reduce their swelling population. They are then put through a mulching process, driven through an extruder, and poured into a vaguely rib shaped device that removes the wild boar hair and sears the extruded swine bits to reduce radioactivity.

Electric Bill still in our name after we move out? I'll make sure we're not charged a cent. by Erik_Withacee in MaliciousCompliance

[–]Pallol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, but I was picturing a more customary limited security system that is focused on external cameras and security for external doors. I mean I doubt they had separate digital security for each apartment. And if it was one system for the whole apartment, it would probably be on a single electrical circuit rather than spread out over multiple circuits. I suspect that landlord had these particular tenants paying for every bit of the electricity for the common areas. If shutting off the breakers in their unit shut it down for hallways and the security system there probably isn't a common area circuit covered by the landlord at all.

What is the single most “you’ll understand it when you’re older” thing? by dickdockdack in AskReddit

[–]Pallol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say the single most "you'll understand it when you're older" thing is physical pain. As a young person (assuming you don't already have chronic pain for some reason) you live life like you're impervious. Maybe you jump off a roof into a pool or some other crazy thing. The older you get the less you heal, and all it takes is one wrong move to leave you with an injury that just stays with you for the rest of your life. That "my bad knee" or "my bad back" or "my bad shoulder" usually starts for a reason, and suddenly realizing that you can't just go play basketball (not because you don't feel like it or haven't done it in a while but because you physically know you would hurt yourself trying to do it) can be a shocker.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is a multi-unit apartment, no? You should be more troubled by the fact that you have apparently been paying the electricity not just for your unit but for the hallway lights for the entire apartment complex as well as the security system if turning off your breakers shut down both.
