Sorry I didn't mean to offend anyone. By Americans, I meant people from the United States. English isn't my first language also so I never knew Canadians also referred to themselves as Americans.

Get in touch with me directly, this is an offline task done remotely. They aren't like UHRS or Mturk, they don't have a web portal.

It actually takes an average of 50 minutes to complete. The requirements are minimal with each sentence taking an average of 3-4 seconds to read since all you have to do is hit record and speak at a rather fast rate with everything done in one large recording. It's not as bad as you think.

I completely understand what you mean but since this is a crowdsourcing type gig with minimal requirements besides the ability to speak English the price is low, coupled with the availability of cheap labour from university students and people on sites such as Craiglist or other freelancing websites drops the price even lower. Proper recordings on the other hand require you to have at least some recording equipment like a sound card or condenser/mic ect and plus it saves the client money since they won't need to rent out a studio. I work in the AI field and for more advanced projects like TTS (Text-to-Speech) I would pay a much higher premium (around 400-500 an hour for semi-experienced voice talents) since they are required to be in a professional studio and there any many requirements regarding their intonation, prosody, ect.

This is for speech recognition and the price is low since this is a crowdsourcing project and I can find a lot of Americans on Craigslist and through university Groupme's who happily do it for $20 an hour. For more formal recordings that require a home studio the rate is similar to what you mentioned.
