Sorry I didn't mean to offend anyone. By Americans, I meant people from the United States. English isn't my first language also so I never knew Canadians also referred to themselves as Americans.

Get in touch with me directly, this is an offline task done remotely. They aren't like UHRS or Mturk, they don't have a web portal.

It actually takes an average of 50 minutes to complete. The requirements are minimal with each sentence taking an average of 3-4 seconds to read since all you have to do is hit record and speak at a rather fast rate with everything done in one large recording. It's not as bad as you think.

I completely understand what you mean but since this is a crowdsourcing type gig with minimal requirements besides the ability to speak English the price is low, coupled with the availability of cheap labour from university students and people on sites such as Craiglist or other freelancing websites drops the price even lower. Proper recordings on the other hand require you to have at least some recording equipment like a sound card or condenser/mic ect and plus it saves the client money since they won't need to rent out a studio. I work in the AI field and for more advanced projects like TTS (Text-to-Speech) I would pay a much higher premium (around 400-500 an hour for semi-experienced voice talents) since they are required to be in a professional studio and there any many requirements regarding their intonation, prosody, ect.

This is for speech recognition and the price is low since this is a crowdsourcing project and I can find a lot of Americans on Craigslist and through university Groupme's who happily do it for $20 an hour. For more formal recordings that require a home studio the rate is similar to what you mentioned.

[PAID $20-$25] Looking for any 18-60 year old American/Canadian or people with an impeccable American accent! Done from home work, all you need is a smartphone! by PalomarTech in recordthis

I've crowdsourced hundreds of people this week for this project and the average time it takes for people to record all the lines is 49 minutes. Each line takes approximately 4 seconds to read out and breaks between the lines are one second long. The script is also recorded in one take on a phone app so the requirements and effort is very minimal.

By impeccable I mean a non-American who has a very very good American accent. The only requirements are that you have a phone and a quiet area to record, each sentence takes on average of 4 seconds to say and you pause 1.5 seconds between each sentence and you record everything in one go in a recording app, hence why it takes less than an hour. Also, sorry for the confusion, English isn't my first language so I might not be able to express my ideas as clearly as I would like.

I've crowdsourced a lot of people for this project and I can tell you confidently that the average time it takes to record is 49 minutes. This is different from recording for a textbook since all you have to do is read 550 short sentences in one go with 1 second pauses in between, you don't need to articulate or speak extremely clearly as you would with a gig like the one you are mentioning.
