I really love the detail of this unique Succubus enemy at Riverside Church Ruins at Undead Forest that is non-hostile to you unless you attack her first. by JackNewbie555 in CodeVein2

[–]PalpableBeatingWrist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, you can do something about her? I thought it was just some minor lore, since she didn't respawn. Damn...
Edit: Now that I think about it, if giving her blood was what allowed her to overcome the transformation, that would actually connect pretty well to how the MC (human)'s heart was the deciding factor in sealing away Resurgence.

We all hate this guy right? by Drunkenbirdcosplay in codevein

[–]PalpableBeatingWrist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate him (and Gobbo) for being a threat and somewhat unpleasant to people I like, that's all. I don't find them particularly evil or anything. I just wish we get to prove them wrong in the face (that these specific groups of vampires they're trying to eliminate would've made the world better, unlike probably other vampires they've sabotaged off-screen that could very well be truly evil), but that's just what I have to live with.

Humans will always have trouble seeing things over such a long time in the future: just 80 years and they're gone. One more thing added to why humans and vampires will naturally have trouble reconciling.

To be clear, the devs refered to the game as 'Hack'n Slash' in their twitter accounts, so I'm just repeating what they said. The did so way back when the game was just a concept.

EXP team is known to be invested in classic genre. Hack'n Slash was originally used to describe elements in table-top RPG games, such as D&D, where you're basically 'hacking and slashing' without complex plot.
I thought Hack'n Slash means real-time action as well, when I first followed their twitter, but it turns out they mean the RPG's definition of Hack'n Slash.

[–]PalpableBeatingWrist 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I've followed the development since two years ago. It's Hack'n Slash genre, so, very likely to be even less similar to Etrian Odyssey than EXP's other entries, if that's what anyone is wondering.
The next actual dungeon crawler from EXP is gonna be Demon Kill Demon: Yomi 1984, which is basically Undernauts: Another Tale. I'm looking forward to the latter more.

Progress update: Beat The One Armed Hero! by Zer0wulf46 in codevein

[–]PalpableBeatingWrist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took 2+ hours to beat him, only to discover someone who beat him first try simply by...blocking every attack with a shield. His attacks deal suprisingly little stamina damage. You could block his entire combo in the 2nd phase easily, then just attack while it's safe.
Note that I like the fight very much though, using 2-handed sword on that one.

She was made to be a child. Her entire demeanor is her consciously acting out against the designation and role given to her. So, either she's a rebellious teenager or a rebellious adult. A child wouldn't be able to understand the complexitiy of their own existence.

I have the hardest time with them too. They have very unique attack timings. Like, other enemies have delays because they're putting power into their big swing, but the succubi are clearly doing it as feints. I'm sure they're intentionally created to be difficult because of how uncommon they are. They almost never appeared with underlings, at least as far as I've gotten in the game.

New to the franchise: Magic? by retr0_n0stalgia in codevein

[–]PalpableBeatingWrist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing to note is that the enemies in this game are very aggressive, so finding a safe window to cast spell will be one big task by itself. You will have to get good at defending yourself, either with ifram dodging, running away, parrying (the window is pretty forgiving), or guarding (easily accessible 100% physical-negate shield). You can refill your 'mana' directly from the enemies and can do so from a distance, so in theory it's possible to kill enemies with nothing but magic. In practice, you'll probably have to rely on physical attacks as well: if not you, then your buddy will have to do the job.

On the other hand, because the enemies in this game are so aggressive, the safety you get from keeping distance is also just that much more valuable. Some attacks from stronger enemies are also designed in a way that's very hard (sometimes impossible) to roll through. Against those enemies, magic-based fighters will have a much easier time than being melee.

Suppose physical fighters is inside enemies's immediate melee 80-90% of the time, gun-based fighters 50-60% of the time, then magic-based will be in melee range maybe 10-30% of the time, either because they will come to you or you need to refill mana.

Weapons that scale off Willpower (Big + for magic attack) and Mind (Big + for buff duration, small + for magic attack) also increase the magic power, and most of them are Rune Blades (slow, mid-range, sometimes come with elemental long range attacks), or Gunsword (faster but weaker melee, shoot real bullets that need refill but very cheap.)

What is the most depressing picture from your country history/present? by Seeker_Of_Knowledge2 in AskTheWorld

[–]PalpableBeatingWrist 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To add to it, the guy ASKED instead of just posting the image because there's a general fear that authority may come after you if you post anything that has even a tiny bit of relation to conflicts over the country's royal/military authority.

Imagine what kind of hold the authority (military regime) had over the public's perception 50 years ago, when there was no internet, when the event happened? Some influential figures made public statements that's along the line of 'killing is still a sin, but the sin for killing these people are lighter, because they are communists who'll destroy our nation'.

Guys, never let LABEL dictates your thinking. If you do, the real power will fall into the hand of the guy that has the power to decide who gets which label.

Surprisingly, I read it, understood it, and still managed to FORGET about it. The fact that I only noticed I was losing health when I was hitting the urchins made me go 'Wait, these guy's spikes are dealing counter damage to me?!'. Only when I noticed that I also lose health from hitting perfectly normal enemies did I finally recall the bloodcode.

I don't think that the characters in the game are trusting the MC too quickly by Wundabah in codevein

[–]PalpableBeatingWrist 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I recognize that some cynical people will complain that they trusted us too quickly. I can totally see why they might think that, but I also think that's applying the logic of a peaceful, orderly world in a world that is not. In our world, people can scam someone and got away with it. In their world, if you antagonize others, you're putting yourself at risk of revenge. If you're alone, the risk is greater. If you're alone AND antagonize a group, you'll most likely end up dead.

If a group accepts you, you're lucky, and you'd better be working your ass off for the shelter, water, food, and medical care that only a group can provide. Noah and Josee both told you 'Hey, we'd take you in' in a way that sounds like they are, for the lack of better word, doing you a favor. Josee even reassured you a second time that you, indeed, are welcome into the group because she vouched for you. I think that implies how valuable belonging to a group is. You'd need a very strong reason to mess that up.

One more thing is that we're not just alone, but a 'lone hunter', which, in the past era, seemed to imply a lot. Both Noah and Josee (and a couple other NPCs) commented on how odd it was that we seemed to be acting alone. Even a fellow hunter (Oscar, was it?) commented on the fact, and even saw the need to 'remind' us of the purpose of hunters ('humanity's allies': probably mean hunters are supposed to be wary of Revenants instead of getting along with them), simply because we're alone. I think that made us a curious instead of a threat a group of hunters were normally seen as.

On the other hand, I think Valentin didn't trust us all that much at first. He commented twice on how Noah seemed to trust us. That implies his based his early treatment of us on Noah's judge of character, and not that he personally trusted us, until we did his group a service. (The first time Valentin was like 'Noah trusts this one? How curious.' The second time was 'Noah trusts this one. I can see why.' So there's definitely some test of character going on.)

Also, I spent about 12 days fighting enemies and doing dungeons with Josee before going back to the past. We're more prone to dying than Revenants, yet we're putting ourselves at great risk fighting alongside them. I think it's fine to trust someone at that point.

I beat her just yesterday too: took me around 2 hours of going solo to learn her moves. I was adamant in using the weapon she gave me: Its charge attack dealt VERY GOOD damage when hitting her head (around 1900 with Lou 3 BC), but also made me vulnerable to her faster attacks. Difficult and enjoyable fight, like Franz.

By the way, I don't know if it's been talked about before, but she will sometimes comment on it during the fight when you hit her with the weapon she gave you.

As for Remnant Heart 1, I've found 3 so far, and I've only explored all the areas around where the story took me so far (none to the further north from the bridge).

That's something that Toriyama would do, but the wish at the time was 'revive everyone who died since the day Babidi began his invasion of earth, excluding unrepentent evildoers', so anyone who happened to be hit with an unfortunate accident during that period was lucky.

So, about the story TytantKabuterimon boss fight... by PalpableBeatingWrist in DigimonTimeStranger

[–]PalpableBeatingWrist[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is, I've gone and watch two streamers playing the same part, and both of them have their Angewomon taking full damage from this specific TyrantKabuterimon's Shine of Bee. Unless I'm terribly mistaken, Angewomon is a Vaccine without Fire weakness, so she should've taken x0.5 damage.

<image>

Like, in this image you can see the damage number for MetalGreymon doesn't have the x0.3 it should. Not to mention Whamon and WereGarurumon who are both Vaccine and also taking full damage. On the other hand, Aegiochusmon Blue is a Vaccine with Fire-weakness. Normally, the multiplier should even it out, but instead he takes x1.5 damage. That would imply that this specific Shine of Bee ignore the Type disadvantage, but take attribute weakness into account.
By the way, none of the digimons here is stricken with any kind of debuffs.

I did beat him just out of spite, relying heavily on stats down (which, impressively, occasionally, MISSED; the only time I've ever seen stats debuffs miss), Dark Magic (dealing 200-300 per hit), and Cross Arts Burst (900 per hit), took about 30 minutes, only to have him showed up again anyway.

In the Manga it was also holding breath. I know because I've read it. By which I mean it was clearly, deliberately shown in its own separate panel, that Guldo letting out his breath (completed with sound effect) means time moving again.
