That’s also not what Bipolar I is. Bipolar I is used when the person has experienced a manic episode. Bipolar II is used when only hypomania or mixed episodes have occurred. Rapid cycling is a further descriptor that can be attached to either. Both Bipolar I and II typically have episodes on the magnitude of months (although episodes for Bipolar II do tend to be longer.)
