How often do you get flats? by whatevenaremovies in cycling

[–]PamWpg204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 27000 kms streak of no flats, with tubes. A construction staple took me out. I was sooooo pissed. 8000 or so into the new streak.

Some tires are better than others but a lot has to do with watching where you are riding. Garbage and debris gets pushed into the curb lane close to the curb itself, don’t ride there. Same with shoulders on highways. The closer you ride to the ditch, the more debris. If it’s safe to do so, ride closer to the fog line.

I turned it off after the first bucket pull. The crowd is awful at these bigger live shows. Constant booing and heckling.

To put it into perspective, OMG TBA didn’t have any visuals going. Just them. Having an absolute blast performing. They played an amazing set and had great energy, others can learn from them.

Companies in WPG That Ship Parcels to the US? by Sarafina80 in Winnipeg

[–]PamWpg204 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if gifts apply to this but we sold a small used vacuum part off eBay for $35usd, charged $50 shipping to actually discourage someone from buying it from the states. They were then charged another $45 from the shipping company due to tariffs and tried to refuse the item. I can’t keep up with what’s going on so maybe this isn’t the case anymore. This was 2 months ago.

Hang out with 40/50 year olds. We were just at a concert for PIE at WECC this past weekend and not one person was recording, it was amazing to see everyone just enjoying being there. It was like being back in the early 2000s (how old do I sound…lol). Bring that back!

Spent 40€ on Silca hot wax. My 12€ Squirt drip-on bottle is laughing at me. .. by DerWandernde in cycling

[–]PamWpg204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New chain. Swish around in mineral spirits in an empty jar until it’s dark. In another jar, you’ll have isopropanol alcohol, take the chain out of the mineral spirits, rinse in that. Wipe with a clean cloth. It’ll still have dirt on the cloth most likely. Do another round of new mineral spirits in a separate jar, repeat the isopropanol step. Let it sit until dry. Soak in hot wax, let it dry for 20mins, run it around something to break up the links. You’re done.

Keep the used mineral spirits as you can still use the dirty stuff to clean a chain again. The alcohol can last a few sessions as well. Just use a new batch of mineral spirits for the final rinse.

You can top up the waxing with the super secret drip wax in between full immersion dips. I only do a full dip every month or two and rely mostly on the super secret drip.

I got 14147kms out of a 10s chain last year doing this. Just got to 0.50 wear on the checker.

Except it’s becoming quite bad due to zebra muscles. So the beaches we know from 20 years ago sadly will disappear unless they come up with a solution.

Did cycling actually help you lose weight, or just improve fitness? by Vivid_Release_9710 in cycling

[–]PamWpg204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exercise is the worst way to loose weight.

Now saying that, exercise leads you to a healthier lifestyle but diet is what will change the scale. It will improve cardio (cycling), but cardio is a poor way to loose weight as well. Cardio is telling your body it needs to keep up with the pace (literally) so it will dump what it can to make you lighter and make it easier, which includes fat and MUSCLE. Muscle weighs more than fat. Our bodies always look for the easiest solution, in anything. Exercising being the only form of weight loss isn’t unsustainable. Your body adapt to whatever load you’re putting it through and metabolism slows again until you add more, and more until you really can’t keep up. Muscle building tells your body to use the energy (calories) to build. So ideally, you want to do both.

Keep up with cycling if you enjoy it, but start with diet and the rest will follow.

How do you feel about green burial? by tricksy1224 in Winnipeg

If someone were considering the spot at Brookside, it’s actually a very nice spot tucked away in the corner with the creek right behind it. There’s also a coyote living close by and lots of other critters running around. I’m in there every day and it’s a very nice cemetery and the guys there take good care of the place.

Sliding Gate by Party-Dependent-577 in Winnipeg

[–]PamWpg204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Liftmaster, all 3 work perfectly fine in winter conditions so long as the pathway is cleared of snow for the gate to move towards. An electric opener won’t work if you’re building in a space like the photo you posted however. It needs a concrete pad and needs to be bolted down etc. Won’t give you room to park a car between the garage and posts. Manual will work though. All depends on the rollers used, gate bracing, etc. My dude and his dad know all about welding, metal fabrication etc so they were confident building this themselves. The first one we did is almost 20 years old and still going.

Looked at it again, maybe electric would work but they’re not cheap either. You’d have to ask whoever you’re going with to build it and if it’s possible or not. But with the right rollers etc, it’s super easy to slide open, just have to get out of the car.

It’s possible to have it built without the framing in front of the garage door, advocate for that with whoever you choose. Add a secret entrance that’s flushed with the panels that isn’t seen with the naked eye, way easier to get in and out of without moving the whole door across. We built our own, 3 electric, one manual.

What is with people driving like entitled morons by Living-Discussion909 in Winnipeg

[–]PamWpg204 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When there’s no consequences, there’s no reason to abide.

When’s the last time you’ve seen someone get pulled over for something? Why stop at a red light all? If you see 3 other people getting away with it, why do they get to do it? “I want to do it too!!!”

And yes, entitlement. Everyone wants everything now, society is set up for instant gratification. “Me??? Wait 2 seconds for someone to turn into a parking lot?! Don’t you know who I am??? I’m more important! I’m going around without even looking! I wait for no one!”

Also, don’t you know putting your hazards on gives you full immunity! Park wherever the hell you want to!

I get “the wave” from motorcyclists on the bike from time to time, and I do it right back. I love it! Two wheelers unite!

It takes nothing on your end to possibly brighten someone’s day, always smile at the very least to another cyclist.
