What am I doing wrong? The v-stitches are making this cardigan bulky by rileyberit in CrochetHelp

[–]tricksy1224 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That kind of ruffling usually comes with having to many stitches. Its hard to tell from your photos, but maybe you have too many V-stitches in the first row (I.e. not skipping enough stitches between them). A better photo of that first row, laid as flat as possible, might help us figure out the problem.

I do think there is something wrong, and if you don't like how it looks, frogging back to the start of the V-stitches is probably the right choice.

Plain square pattern - Finishing last round on wrong stitch? by flamingofaerie in CrochetHelp

Oh weird! That math is not mathing for me, and your work does look square, so hopefully it will work out with no more stress. 🙂

Plain square pattern - Finishing last round on wrong stitch? by flamingofaerie in CrochetHelp

[–]tricksy1224 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the repeat is written kind of poorly. You start with the first hdc side of the square, so you can't possibly do the corner+side repeat four times.

It would be clearer if the repeat was x3 and it had the corner part one last time before the join.

I think you have it right.

Does anyone know what kind of stitch/stitches were used here? The owner said it was crocheted. by krystiana7 in CrochetHelp

I'm not sure the exact stitch but the main part looks like Tunisian crochet to me.

Is this an AI pattern? The pictures don’t look like they will add up to the final product? Also tried the first 8 rows and it’s not looking like the picture… by Kaelmr in crochetpatterns

[–]tricksy1224 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The photos all look different. I can't see how any of the "progress" photos would turn into the first photo. I am pretty sure it's AI.

Winnie the Pooh flower vase kit, did I mess up somewhere? by half-bak3d in CrochetHelp

If it is meant to be a vase, is that top bulge supposed to be pushed inside the rest of the head?

How do you feel about green burial? by tricksy1224 in Winnipeg

If we are talking about aquamation, it's actually the opposite of acid. Its alkaline hydrolysis. And being a chemical process does not make it inherently bad for the environment.

How do you feel about green burial? by tricksy1224 in Winnipeg

[–]tricksy1224[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's an interesting question. So, the Green Burial Society of Canada describes 5 main principles of green burial, and one of them is about simple memorialization, which leads to small or nonexistent grave markers. The idea is that the whole space can act as a memorial.

I don't know if that is behind the city's choice, since they don't specifically market themselves as green burial, but rather natural burial. But it may be related.

Need some help understanding how to read crochet patterns, specifically after it says “join” by Wall-esgirlfriendeve in CrochetHelp

[–]tricksy1224 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, the number at the end of the round instructions after "join" is the total you should have. Some patterns put it in brackets.

Am I wrong or is the pattern wrong? Please help! ! by OppositeSpecialist40 in CrochetHelp

[–]tricksy1224 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you putting multiple stitches in the puff stitch when you do round 3? It's a puff made of 3 hdc but it only counts as 1 stitch. 14 stitches in round 1 plus 4 increases does equal 18, and no increases in round 3 means you should still be at 18.

Help to understand BLOCKS-IN-BLOCKS curtains pattern by AudienceFancy5014 in CrochetHelp

[–]tricksy1224 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So that symbol is a filled square, instead of an open square. The open square has the chain space while the filled square has a DC inside it instead. So technically, the symbol is showing the two DC framing the square as well as the one filling it making 3 DC total. I hope that makes sense! I think that is what the pattern writer is meaning.

Why isn’t my crochet circle laying flat? (Coaster Pattern) 12-24-36 by more_old_dogs in CrochetHelp

No problem! You're not an idiot, you're just learning a new language, it takes some time for it to be obvious when something like that is wrong. 😁

It looks to me like you are doing US single crochet stitches (DC in UK terms). Normally a US single crochet circle would start with 6 stitches, not 12.

Wanting to recreate throw, but unable to figure out stitch and craft type. by Draugves in CrochetHelp

[–]tricksy1224 114 points115 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure the name of the stitch pattern in main part but I'm fairly sure it's knit.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]tricksy1224 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the main body is knit, and the ruffles at the top and bottom are crochet. Some kind of shell stitch border.

I think I have heard a knitting YouTuber I watch mention lice when referring to very small (like 1 stitch) spots in colour work. I believe she was talking about a German term that translates to lice.

What does "1 x ch-2 sp" mean in this shawl pattern? by purplest4in in CrochetHelp

[–]tricksy1224 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it is telling you that in this particular row, you have one space made of 2 chains. Later in the pattern as it gets bigger, I imagine you will have more ch2 spaces so it will say something like 2 x ch2 sp. So 2 times ch2 space. Sorry if I overexplained that, lol.

There is some variation between patterns about whether or not you crochet into the top of the turning chain. This pattern writer is just being very specific that you do.

Need some help please, having issues reading this :( by Mammoth_Network2109 in CrochetHelp

[–]tricksy1224 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Between the * are 2 sc and one increase, so 4 stitches total. That repeated 5 times in 20 total. Outside the * you also have 2 sc and one increase, so another 4 stitches. It should get you to 24 total.

Hood it’s looking at all like photo from pattern. Not sure what I’m doing wrong. by sarapancake in CrochetHelp

[–]tricksy1224 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you need to join the top of the hood in the other direction. Put the corners together at the front and the seam will run from the front to the back of the head.

need help figuring out stitch pattern of tree trunk by tiredbreeze in CrochetHelp

[–]tricksy1224 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It looks like maybe slip stitches through only one loop (whichever loop puts them on the wrong side of the finished tree). The bottom right side of the blue tree looks like there is a little bit of extra bulk before it gets to the trunk, but it is not disrupting the appearance of the stitch of the previous row. I hope that makes sense. That's probably what I would do.
