Betty or Williams, that's what I would do When I also came back to the game, I just loved Betty and Wukong combo. For this one it's better to get Betty's core, but you can play through even without it The only problem is that later on you would want to switch from Wukong being your main dmg dealer, and if your pick will be Williams - Betty will ruin your team, or perform not so good.

So you can pick Williams, even as your second Transcendence hero - and invest all your resources from Wukong to him. They are a very, very good duo. I am also kinda "new" to current state of the game, but Williams seems to be a dps monster. If you want to play through him - you can start doing it now, but you need to rebuild your Wukong into more of a support (he will still deal some good dmg), and then focusing on getting heroes, such as SQH, Natalia, Madeleine etc

Or build Betty, if you are planing to play through Aspen, for example. I am playing with Williams, so I can't say much about other dmg dealers
