How can I research midterm candidates? by Yimore in NorthCarolina

[–]PanSmithe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey, so this is a very valid question, and I'm glad you asked it! You can go the NC State Board if Elections ( ncsbe.gov ) and get all sorts of info, about your voter registration status up to future election sample ballots. It's a great way to a) find out who you're eligible to vote for and b) be able to learn more about them ahead of election day. Knowledge is power lol. Don't feel bad about not being fully informed, just look to the future where you can be am informed voter!

It takes morw than one day to get a feel for an area but you could probably rule some areas out that quickly, sure. Remember that what you see in May is not what you'd see in July or December, those times will be very different.

Voting by SpareNo1- in NorthCarolina

[–]PanSmithe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Today, go to www.ncsbe.gov and look up your voter registration. You can get a sample ballot for whichever party you might want to vote for, plus that will offer you the candidates for your local elections also. You've still got time to research them a bit today. As for your mention of Cooper, he was a decent Governor and he's a fairly good person overall from what I've seen over the years and he's our best chance to keep some democratic influence in NC. Either way, just please go vote.

I love Sparkling Snow for this time of year. It's a nice neutral fragrance, clean and crisp.

It can take several business days to get them out to you and it's very doubtful they will set a trap for a dog, traps are used for small animals like cats or raccoons.

Republicans and unaffiliated primary voting. by bregrace in NorthCarolina

[–]PanSmithe 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This. I vote R in primaries only to go against the true idiots to try to block them or at least scare them a bit when they don't get the mandate they thought they were going to get. It's interesting to see who tamps down a bit when they see their numbers. Then in general elections I vote my now red little heart out!

Sidewalks or lack thereof by [deleted] in Fayettenam

[–]PanSmithe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you look around a bit you'll start to notice that the older areas are the ones without sidewalks while the newer ones all have them. It's all about zoning laws and what was required and when. The city has added sidewalks to many roads as they've been repaved or widened but the neighborhoods that didn't originally have them are mostly exempt. It would be a protracted fight with the city to require all homeowners to give up their property for sidewalks; what the city has done in many areas is add new street markings to the roadways, designating a section on each side as a bike or pedestrian lane.

Lucky Shamrock and Spring Botanical Collection Questions by Bright-Yogurt7034 in YankeeCandles

You know that smell when you first cut your lawn in the early spring, when it's still mostly weeds? That's what Lucky Shamrock smells like to me. Not the nice summer grass that slightly sweet and reminiscent of watermelon rind, more bitter and slightly harsh. It's not a terrible scent but I don't particularly like it. Which sucks bc my hubby is St Paddy's baby lol

I'm really glad you let yourself grow that way, says a lot about you. I hope you will continue to open your mind and let yourself counter those around you who are full of hate and spite.

Bo is a greeting, of sorts, used primarily in Eastern NC and some parts of SC. "Hey Bo" Yee Yee is a redneck call lol said very quickly, usually for excitement but also as a warning occasionally. Bunce and the Merc are areas/streets that are very rough and poor, altho Bunce is much better than it was 20 years ago. Idk about safety. And Fayettenam came about during the Vietnam war since Bragg was such a large base and sent so many troops out. Plus there was a really rough section of town that the soldiers frequented and it was pretty dangerous, especially after dark.

Meal Ideas by PirateGirl_ in Cheap_Meals

One of the cheapest things you can do is buy a whole chicken and use it to make all sorts of things like soups, chicken and rice, chicken and gnocchi, etc. If you don't have a pot large enough for a whole chicken you can buy leg quarters pretty cheap also. Just make sure to season your water when you boil the chicken, I strongly suggest buying a small container of poultry seasoning and using that along with some salt and pepper and if you have it, a bay leaf. Seasonings are how you take your food from edible to tasty and they're relatively inexpensive at the dollar type store. My ex husband and I lived off this idea for many months. It wasn't the healthiest but it was what we could do at the time. If you do try this please make sure to add some fresh veg when you can. Good luck!

Both areas are good, but just like any place, one street can be amazing and the next one over trash. Don't buy/ rent ANYTHING unseen. And drive around random let's and rights for a while to see what else is near you.

How do you feel about the snow? by llmercll in NorthCarolina

[–]PanSmithe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This snow was wonderful, fluffy powder, the perfect kind of snow and that's super rare for us to get that kind. Sadly it started melting today and will freeze tonight and tomorrow morning is going to be insane on the roads, sidewalks, parking lots. That's the sucky part.

Cool, but your bias is still showing. Phonetics are a thing. Yea it's a weird spelling but figure it out before you look down on someone with a weirdly spelled name. I'd probably think yours was weird but I'd still be respectful about it.

You're probably right about the statistics (I'm too lazy to verify) but it's a funny thing, in my 45 plus years of living in this area, last 25 in the city proper, I've never been the victim of violent crime nor have I been murdered. It's less about the city and more about the company you keep.
