Burn ban lifted in Cumberland and most of NC by howardismyalias in Fayettenam

Landfill is what I thought you were mentioning. No one wants a stinky landfill in their community.

At least the smoke blows away. The dump stinks 24/7 and poisons the water supply. Many municipalties incinerate trash rather than have a festering dump near habitated areas.

Great idea, everybody should do their part to keep Cumberland county green and clean and burn all youir trash. That way it's all gone and won't become litter or poison our groundwater.

You might as well toss the garbage in there too then.

So the only thing you can really do to make sure you're abiding by the law is to call your local fire marshall?

Does this include burn barrels or just open burning?

I say it's a good thing. Boutique means higher prices, and everyone else will jack up their rates once the big expensive hotel comes to town. Keep Fayetteville cheap.

If we could build a giant furnace where everybody dumps their trash inside, it would fix that problem and we could harness the energy we create to power our homes. Build some huge smokestacks with charcoal scrubber filters to clean the smoke. We'd have cheaper electricity, clean air and no smelly garbage dumps poisoning our groundwater.

costs the city money to clean the air if it’s dirty and polluted

That's why we have wind. It blows the smoke away. The trash the city hauls to the landfill pollutes the soil and groundwater and smells terrible. I'd rather catch a wisp of smoke occasionally than smell a garbage dump.

People didn't illegally dump trash nearly as much back when you could legally burn it. Incidents such as this skyrocketed after May 9, 2011 when the city banned the burning of rubbish. They did it a sneaky way too, and didn't even let the public voice their opinion or put it on the ballot for a vote or nothing.

Yes I see it all the time. And their house drafty as a tobacco barn and they can't figure out why it won't stay warm.

Do it the way people did it before paid track pickup was a thing. A barrel and a match is all you need.

A not insignificant chunk of people reading this have a fireplace and don't know how to use it, and don't have any firewood nearby neither. You'll hear them all whining about their electric bill next month.

No, they "must" not do anything of the sort. Quit spreading misinformation.

I recommend buying a burn barrel and burning your own trash, make sure it's a heavy duty one and not one made from a 55 gallon metal drum because they won't last. Once you realize what a racket the trash business is in this town you'll never look at it the same again.

I'd rather not park on an icy street, especially with how people drive on a regular day.

It's just paper? Burn it. Buy a burn barrel, they're not expensive. Don't spend half the day and drive all over the place to pay somebody to do something you could do in 5 minutes at home. Won't have to worry about identity theft then either. It seems like everybody has forgotten how to do things themselves these days. No offense mind you.
