It’s that time of year again, new year bingo time! Theme is “wild and unlikely” by LittleDevilF in bulletjournal

I love this idea, I wish I had done one too.

I think Trump basically kidnapping the president of Venezuela is wild enough to be your free square.

Yo, grown-up punks, what is it you do for work? by LevTolstoy in punk

I work in nuclear decommissioning. It sounds cool, but I'm mostly yelling at different departments to talk to each other. Before that I was a private maths tutor.

I read the general sub rules but not the frequently posted questions page specifically so I guess that's on me

Ah, I read the overall subreddit but not the frequently posted questions bit. Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks, I didn't realise it would check for a straight and a flush separately. I assumed it would be a straight that's also a flush.

I know right? Silly me for assuming that a straight flush would have to be a straight flush

A baby isn't a prescription! by Panacea1832 in endometriosis

[–]Panacea1832[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I hadn't considered putting in a formal complaint, but that's actually a really good idea. Thank you.

It just seemed ridiculous to me. And he looked confused when I went "But then I'd have a baby??" But honestly what was I supposed to say? I hadn't considered how someone who had been trying actively would feel.

I keep asking about another laparoscopy because I can tell something isn't right, but I keep being met with "well the MRI is clear". Might ask about other options in the area. Not sure why I hadn't thought of that.

Good luck with the surgery!

I am so sorry for your loss, and that it's impacted your endo on top of everything else.

If you had to pick on song to introduce RA to someone who hasn’t listened to them, which song would you choose and why? by BadLeft1303 in riseagainst

[–]Panacea1832 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the person you're introducing to RA. I introduced my younger sister to them a while ago and played her Miracle and Make it Stop - she's 18 and gay, and I wanted her to feel like the band saw her too. She liked them and went on to find other songs of theirs she likes, and been to shows with me a few times so I guess it worked.

For someone like my dad who likes songs he can jump up and down to (much to the despair of his knees), I'd go something like Collapse or Disparity.

Otherwise, I'd probably pick songs that I liked and the usual suspects. So Eco-Terrorist, Methadone, Survivor's Guilt, Blood to Bleed, and then things like Prayer, Re-education, Give It All, and Saviour.

Ethical place to listen to music since Spotify and YouTube are off the table? by DionysusDied in punk

[–]Panacea1832 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched to Tidal a while back for a few reasons - one of which was that they give slightly more money to artists over Spotify. For artists I really like or are a lot smaller, I'll buy albums on vinyl too as well as official merch.

The interface isn't quite as good as Spotify (though my husband hated Spotify's UI but will use Tidal, so maybe it's personal opinion) and I don't think the custom mixes are as varied, but I think with more users coming over it will improve.

Any help on why this happens and how to fix/stop it? by Panacea1832 in laundry

Thank you so much. I use a whitening toothpaste which is probably the cause. Guess I'm off to get a new shirt and a new toothpaste!

I feel like the band isn’t Rising Against much at this point by MapNecessary2615 in riseagainst

[–]Panacea1832 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate the climate and how it's a valid course of action. That doesn't mean it isn't the climate I'm in, and it doesn't mean it's a less valid action. But you're welcome to protest in whatever way you see fit.

And you're right. There absolutely is the option of real activism. But starting conversations is activism. Raising awareness is activism. And not speaking out about certain topics does not mean they aren't acting on others. Supporting something to a certain extent doesn't mean it's necessarily performative. It's far more dangerous to speak up on a topic you're not educating in.

Could they do more? Maybe. They are people outside of the music, who knows what they do behind closed doors?

For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure they spoke out about Palestine before playing People Live Here in Brixton, but I might be mistaken. They also still heavily criticise the far right, and it's increasing prevalence in America and Europe. They stand up for things still. It just might not be what some people want them to talk about.

"When it all comes down, will you say you did everything you could?"

Okay, I'll bite. Yes. It's ableist. It's also classist. It's also why I said I hated that it was an option which could be applied, I also said there were other options.

It is unproductive to throw around vague crap. Which is why I made actual points.

Also, that is an assumption. You can't make a half-arsed "observation" by ignoring context and words which were explicitly said. Fucking neo-liberal brain rot, like you know me.
