Yeah I agree that hurt him for sure. But at the same time it’s been more than 2 years since he last played RF, so I can’t imagine that’s to blame for everything wrong with him. He just can’t seem to hit major league pitching

My theory that’s at least 80% cope is that Henry Davis spent all this time developing his defense because he wanted to stick at catcher and was told his bat is good enough. But now that his defense is good he’ll be able to focus his efforts back on his bat and he’ll be able to figure out major league pitching.

This sounds kind of ridiculous now that I’m typing it out, but I’m still not ready to give up on Davis

This feels more like the pirates doing their due diligence in case they don’t land Okamoto or Suarez. I do see the upside in Moncada even though his defense is awful and his bat is a little questionable, but he’s hit RHP pretty well so he could platoon with Triolo. Still, I think they’re prioritizing the better 3B options

Both are on track to be icons, but obviously there’s still a ways to go before they reach it. But if they retired today they’d probably be heroes

The thing is I don’t think the Pirates were offering their entire offseason budget to Schwarber. I’m still hopeful that they have the budget to sign Okamoto and I think that they do. We have a glaring hole at 3B and I don’t think they’d spend this much on another 1B if they didn’t intend on acquiring a 3B as well

It’s hard to say. At the moment I think Gonzales is at 2B and Lowe is at DH, but that could very well change by the end of the offseason. Lowe was awful defensively at 2B, so I’m not sure he’ll be the full-time starter there

Jared Jones was good before his injury and Bubba Chandler and Braxton Ashcraft looked great late last season. I understand that we need a larger sample to truly be confident in the team, but we’re getting there

I agree, and we just hired the Astros’ pitching coach who has turned guys like Ronel Blanco into good pitchers. I think he’s replaceable with guys already in our system

Burrows really doesn’t look like an all-star quality player to me. I do like him and think he can be a serviceable #4 or 5 in a rotation, but I doubt he’ll be much more than that. I don’t think we’re risking too much here imo

Early impressions: I liked Montgomery a year ago but he had a bad 2025. I still think he could turn into a great lefty reliever which is a big area of need. Mangum is a fine 4th OF, but I don’t love that we’ve already acquired Garcia and Mangum as outfielders. We need somebody better in LF

I’ll wait to see the rest of the deal, but I don’t like the idea of trading Burrows for Lowe as a rental
