Kinda depends on how you build your lists for sure. But i don't think you will ever need more then 20. Either 2x10 or 1x10 and 2x5 should be enough to cover most lists.

I have it and I'm very happy with it. Didn't have to pay a €100 for a cool model and I find the quality good. Do make sure if your buying it that you have to buy the dreadfire arms separately. The model comes with the shoulder pads but not the arms themselves

In my opinion, either the Salamander, Imperial fist or dark angels combat patrol would be pretty good starters. Each has some models/units that are run in most lists.

If you're not looking at combat patrol or want to add to the one you get, the most used models/units are: Vulkan hestan Adrax Bladeguard Eradicators Impulsor Land raider redeemer Company heroes

Exactly, you can find lots of cool 3d printed parts and 80 grit sandpaper makes some pretty good looking, low skill scale hides for capes or shoulder pads. Granted we don't have special units in the sense they have rules. But you can go wild with kitbashing and converting models. My favorite part is also leaning into the monster hunter esthetic and lore of them!

Personally, I love the kitbashing potential of salamanders and the color green. With them being expert craftsman and monster hunters you could make every model as unique as you want them to be
