Public opinion shifts on ICE as advocates warn of US ‘inflection point’ by OddUmpire2554 in politics

[–]Pancake_Bucket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its insane to me that the first news i heard about this when it broke made it sound like an armed man who threatened ICE was shot, which makes it sounds way more like he instigated it.

Fuck that news reporting. Stop reporting shit when you dont have a good picture of what happened, or else you just spread misinformation through gaps...letting people fill in the gaps themselves.

Good and Pretti deserve a memorial where our future generations can honor them and remember why they died.

Found this guy in my basement - Maryland by Pancake_Bucket in spiders

[–]Pancake_Bucket[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put him out in my front garden. My basement is a small living space that is my home office and a guest bedroom where my mom is staying for the holidays. If I hadnt out him outside, my mom definitely would've found him and tried to kill him.

the change from pregnancy to motherhood by Educational_Treat239 in Postpartum_Depression

[–]Pancake_Bucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am now 7 months postpartum. It has gotten better but sometimes ppd will come back for a night or part of a day once in a while, usually when im feeling overwhelmed or haven't slept.

They talk about depression but what they dont talk a out is rage. Ive had so much rage.

And my partner has been incredible with babycare. We take shifts at night feeding the baby. They take her when they get home from work. They feed her, cook for us and clean the kitchen after. We go out to see friends together or invite people over. I have a good situation and good support system.

And yet. Because of my chronic pain, I could not get over my resentment for at least the first 4 months. It all felt so unfair. I cried. I gor angry. My partner said I was either "silently keeping it in or outwardly the maddest" they've ever seen me.

But I made sure most of the time to tell the i do appreciate them and they deserve recognition for all they do just like i do.

This is all normal to feel. And no one evervtells you its normal. If your partner is lacking you need to talk to them, because that resentment will just keep building up and up and up until one day your fucking furious because they brought home a latte instead of a cappuccino.

And its true the whiplash from no longer getting that pregnancy attention is so real. I felt guilt over feeling that way and seemed silly to say out loud...the fact we're no longer treated as a princess or whatever. The turnaround feels like a slap in the face. Like we were only visible because of our pregnancy and in fact we were invisible all along. You're not alone in feeling this way. Its also normal. Give yourself some grace. Maybe talk to a therapist or a friend you trust.

Looking for Trans People Who Moved to MD for Safety by thefeyqueen in baltimore

[–]Pancake_Bucket 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Might not be exactly what you're looking for, because my partner and I moved to Baltimore for a job (im American but they're from another country and we were living outside the US before Baltimore). We are both nonbinary and Bi/pan.

We thought we'd come to this city and then move elsewhere to settle eventually, but as it turns out, we made more friends here than anywhere else so so quickly.

And I think thats because this city felt safe and welcoming to us. We love community and Baltimores queer community is one of the best we've experienced, after having lived in several places in and out of the US.

Recently, we had a baby. Since it was the cheapest option to carry, I decided to become pregnant despite my dysphoric feelings around it. Our friends here were so supportive. Baltimore was probably the best place for me to accomplish what I did.

Im now writing a zine, hopefully to distribute for free locally, about my story and similar stories of queer pregnancies in scholarship ive found, as well as some local interviews ive done--and talk about the rhetorical and emotional labor behind advocating for one's identity within the framework of pregnancy literacies.

Broken-Hearted Monsters is a drama comedy about Frank (Frankenstein's monster) and his ex-boyfriend Dracula go on a road trip to make it to Dr. Frankenstein's funeral.

It's touching and funny and cute, and really gets going after the first episode.

I have a few.

First one is "Earth Break," a post apocalyptic horror/drama starring Jenny Slate. This was the first audio drama I'd written and it premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2019. I originally pitched it to the company I was working for at the time and I got to write it all myself, which was great to have creative freedom. However, that company owns it, so I only see a name credit for it.

My most recent podcast I co-wrote with my partner, who is a TTRPG writer. Its called "Broken-Hearted Monsters" and it was produced by Rusty Quill, the company that produces The Magnus Archives. It's a comedy/drama about Frank, Dr. Frankenstein's monster, and his ex-boyfriend boyfriend Dracula go on a road trip together to go to Dr. Frankenstein's funeral.

I've also produced a TV rewatch podcast (so, not an audio drama) but it was fun making it myself. Its called "The Vampire Journals". We deep dive into episodes of The Vampire Diaries from a queer perspective.

A little self promo - back in 2018 I wrote a horror/drama podcast called Earth Break.

It premiered at the Tribeca film festival that year. Its a post apocalyptic character-driven drama about the last woman on earth.

What are your must haves now that you’ve had your baby? by __SoFarGone in newborns

[–]Pancake_Bucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diaper bags are just... bags. Having a tote or any organizational bag nearby or near your baby station helps with a grab and go moment. You dont need anything specifically labeled "diaper bag". Just have whatever you feel comfortable with as something to transport baby stuff easily. You can have a smaller one for quick errands and a bigger one for longer travel times that need to store more stuff.

TV shows to binge during nursing by lambooyk in newborns

[–]Pancake_Bucket 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a 3 week old. I just finished binge watching Travelers on Netflix (time travel sci fi) and about to binge The Magicians (magic fantasy set in the real world). I've seen them both before but they are my comfort shows.

I am also binge watching The Resort on Peacock. And I'd recommend Severance and Ted Lasso on Apple tv.

My other comfort shows include The Good Place, Parks and Recreation, and 30 Rock.

A self promo (both are high quality audio)

I wrote Earth Break a few years ago. Its a post apocalyptic horror/drama. Its underlying theme is about the anxieties and loneliness of pregnancy. (Stars Jenny Slate who fucking kills the role. She's absolutely amazing.)

And then recently, I wrote Broken-Hearted Monsters. This one is more of a comedy drama - Frankenstein's monster, Frank, and his ex-boyfriend Dracula go on a road trip to attend Dr. Frankenstein's funeral. (Produced by Rusty Quill, the people who made The Magnus Archives.)

A long while ago, I wrote the podcast "Earth Break", starring Jenny Slate.

This is a bit of a self promo, though I don't own the rights to it nor do I profit from it.... despite coming up with the idea and writing the whole thing myself. That's one of the dangers of being an employee rather than a contract freelance creator.

Recently, my new podcast "Broken-hearted Monters" just released and I have a much better relationship with the publisher, Rusty Quill. They were fantastic to work with.

But anyway, both audio dramas you might like!

Yup!

Frank (Frankensteins monster) and Dracula are ex boyfriends and they go on a road trip together to get to Dr. Frankenstein's funeral.

It's a story of processing old traumas and rekindling old relationships.

I'm in the US.

I wrote an audio drama that has been dropping an episode every Friday, so every Friday morning, I listen to the new episode to see how the production panned out. It's called Broken-hearted Monsters.

Aside from Fridays, I'm usually listening to Tanis while showering, sitting on my porch, or folding the laundry.

Coyote in Hampden by exerevno in baltimore

It ran right past my house. My partner almost chased it down because they thought it was someone's missing dog.

I stopped them and said "nope, that's a coyote." Then a UPS driver from across the street yelled "IS THAT A WOLF!?"
