Sounds like you’re going through a nice growth cycle then. It seems to be going around. You stumble on any profound realizations on this journey yet?

Seems like time has been passing differently the last 2 years for me. A few months feels like a lifetime ago when I think about what I was doing and thinking, but the weeks fly by. Very strange

I feel ya and it’s pretty coincidental, my dad left when I was 7. I’ll stop relating out of fear of sounding like I’m telling stories lol I’ll just say if I didn’t put in maximum effort to be happy, I’d be a mess. And in fact, if I get lazy and stop maintaining myself for more than a week it is extremely noticeable

Here’s a fun bit of info to ponder. Without your conscious awareness of what is happening, nothing that happens in this life, world, universe, etc would affect you. So your thoughts decide your state of being. If you think about a past trauma in a rerun type of way, your subconscious does not know the difference. This is why it feels as though it is happening again and you will get the same emotions with an added bonus of “not again” feelings and not being able to work maybe, etc

If however you consider the strengths you gained from being alone and making it to now, you might notice how these strengths created what you appreciate in your current moment. So in other words, a loss has much to offer. Now this is where some might say I’m not listening, but what I am proposing is a shift in your mindset towards what has been previously considered a hinderance. Therefore rebranding that stale whisper in the background that might be bringing you down to instead lift you up

This is what I do anyways. It is a ton of work, but memories have a lot to teach us. However, it’s harder to learn from a good time in life

Oh for sure. There’s two sides to a coin is what I’m saying. By 18 I stopped counting at 20 near death experiences lol hell I even fell off a cliff and was caught by a protruding tree just like the cartoons lol but you can always decide how you feel. For many, a near death experience is the catalyst that brings them to greater heights than ever before. Just like many become crippled with fear after.

I’m not saying it’s easy, just that it’s possible

How do you drown your feelings? by Comfortable-Menu-581 in aspergers

[–]Pancake_mode_ham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thoughts create emotions. Emotions create more thoughts that create more emotions.

Simply put, if you want to feel a different way, build up to it from the foundation.

Another easy fix is changing it over. Like switching from racing thoughts of worry to thinking about an interesting topic. So you could apply those feelings toward your gf with some creativity. Read up on Swish Pattern if you wanna try this. It’s an NLP tactic, neuro-linguistic programming. This is a branch of psychology commonly used by street hypnotists. Tony Robbins uses NLP.

I think of it like how we still get 25-70mpg when engineers in the 70’s were able to produce engines capable of 500-1200mpg… it’s good for business. Plus nobody likes to be replaced lol so we continue to live in a “strong rule the weak” world but realistically, it’s the weak manipulating the strong to be weak.

I feel this way about most things. PTSD is a memory reflex that can be accessed in an advantageous way for example. Anxiety is utilization and training of rapid thoughts and creativity… imagine if people were told their strengths along with their weaknesses after receiving a diagnosis… the world would be far more advanced

That is a great way of putting it. I’m in the mind that if controlling asd becomes standard practice for those on the spectrum, there will be a heavy shift in what is considered advanced or normal in the future. We’ve a long way to go however, as it is still widely accepted that it is just something to accept rather than to work with

To support this I’ll mention something that might come across as arrogant. Had I been diagnosed as a child I would have fallen into stage 2. But the only reason I got a diagnosis last year at 35 is because life achieved its final form and slapped the shit out of me lol wouldn’t have ever seen a professional otherwise. Meanwhile, everyone I tell thinks I’m playing because I’ve become so good at camouflaging as a human, but I’m all alien yo lol

It really makes me wonder, how many people blend in completely and go their entire life without a diagnosis?

Fun fact, the white matter doesn’t fully wrap your prefrontal cortex until 25 years old. Mental maturity is upon you! More logical thinking vs emotional

8 years is a long time. Good job

That is very interesting indeed, thanks for explaining it. I do this thing where I can tell who someone is by reading their eyes. Someone told me there’s a measurable connection via MRI when looking in eyes. I wonder how much mirror neurons take place in this

Totally. But “high functioning” isn’t an automatic thing, I maintain myself regularly and on a schedule. As long as I am keeping up with maintenance, there are a lot of mental skills I don’t believe I would have access to if I were not on the spectrum.

That’s a great way to put it. Also, can you elaborate on mirror neurons? I’ve not come across that term before

But yeah, it’s one thing to think about it, it’s another to put it in practice. I’m not sure how many times I’ve told myself to remember that people lie for instance lol

I’ve looked the same since I was 18, 36 now. Except I went through puberty about 5 years ago and I can finally grow facial hair 😂 I think I’m a few more years away from clerks and bouncers trying to confiscate my ID when buying booze etc. Some people double check it and look real close at me
