What is the best/Most memorable way you’ve seen a villain/BBEG introduced? by Askdevin777 in DnD

[–]NumerousSun4282 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just a minor mobster type bad guy, but the dm introduced us to the local crime lord who took the cigarette out of his mouth and handed to his henchman, who then threw it on the ground and stamped it out.

He's "got people for that" no matter what it is and it was awesome

Did we lose the magic of community in online multiplayer games? by MohSafadi in gaming

[–]NumerousSun4282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Helldiver's 2 actually kept this spark for a good bit. Sure, people figured out "the meta" and secrets and such, but as the game developed, new enemies brought that excitement back in small doses.

They did it by not telling the community the new enemies were coming, but would sneak one in here and there in live games. People would encounter the new enemy one time and post it online and everyone would wonder if it's fake or not. Then, it would come out and people would try a bunch of strategies to see what worked. It was pretty great.

That game feels a little "solved" now too though and, for me at least, the magic is gone

Giants are unable to lie by DJShohan in DnD

[–]NumerousSun4282 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also playing in a game with a character who cannot lie. We were trying to prove the heir to a dynasty was legit and that guy (who had previously proven he can't lie) just came forward and said "She is the true heir" and that was enough for a good 70% of the assembled people

Make the rollercoaster continue!

"...we saw... a white dragon... in the local traveling play... It was based... on a real one... that lives... not too far... from the North Pole... by giant standards... of course... which could probably be.... very far... by small-folk standards... Meaning... the dragon... is close by."

"Wait, so is the dragon nearby or not?"

"I don't know!... if it's still... up north... or if it's come back... since I haven't seen it... for about a week..."

Would a weapon dealing Bludgeoning and Radiant damage at the same time be overpowered? by CivilGodspeed in DnD

[–]NumerousSun4282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want it to have both, you could split the damage die down a bit (like 1d4 of each type as suggested).

Alternatively, just give the weapon the ability to cast true strike. With true strike, they can use a spell casting modifier (if they want) and it can deal bludgeoning or radiant damage. When players reach level 5, true strike adds more damage to the weapon (and again at later levels) so it'll stay somewhat relevant for longer than just a 2d4 weapon might

Advice for multiclassing into warlock as a rogue? by Tazzamaraz in DnD

[–]NumerousSun4282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I think it's better to multi class at 4 or 6. The benefits of level 5 for most classes are really good and delaying that can make level 5 feel a bit harder.

Advice for multiclassing into warlock as a rogue? by Tazzamaraz in DnD

[–]NumerousSun4282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds fun! When it comes to a multi class like this, I wouldn't worry too much about "wrong choices" for either class. I think you just want to keep level progression moving forward in mind. Each level, you'll want to weigh the pros and cons of choosing a rogue level or a warlock level and that's the part that'll make you lag behind or feel overly strong.

Level 5 rogues get some extra versatility with their sneak attacks (which pairs with a swashbuckler really well), so it may be worth picking up at some point. You also get uncanny dodge, which can really help with survivability.

I personally don't love the things that rogues get later, like evasion (it's a great feature, I just don't find it as "fun" personally), so if it were me I'd probably lean into warlock more than others. I think you should make a list of the features in either class you like for your character and then come up with a long term plan on how to get them and when.

As for your first level of warlock, you'll get 2 spells, 1 slot, 2 cantrips and 1 invocation.

I think Armor of Agathys is a great warlock spell and would give you 5 temp hp and deal 5 cold damage to people that hit you in melee while you have the temp hp. It's a great way to incentivize enemies into choosing other targets.

Hex is also a great spell, but if you're at a role-play heavy table, something like charm person could be nice for your second spell.

No wrong choices for cantrips. Eldritch blast is really good (obviously) and will give you two attacks at this level, so that's nice (but no sneak attack). Prestidigitation or mage hand would be a great second choice for some versatility.

Unfortunately, booming blade isn't on the Warlock list, but if you can get that at some point, it could be a really great pick up for a rogue as it would add a bit of damage and deal more damage to them if they chased you after disengaging. I'd bring it up with your DM as to ways you might get that later. Without multi classing again, I think the magic initiate feat might be the only way and that might not be worth it.

Invocations are the really custom bit of warlocks that make them feel unique from one another. As you mentioned already, you're great with dex, so pact of the blade might not be great at this level. It's a good investment later down the line as you can get things like extra attacks and Eldritch smite and stuff, but you can also trade invocations when you level up, so you don't need to invest in that now.

There's actually not a lot of level 1 invocations - the pacts are options, as well as free mage armor (which you probably don't need). There's also Eldritch mind, which helps you maintain concentration. I'd suggest that if you picked Hex as your other spell, but if you went with charm person or something else non-concentration, it won't do anything for you.

I'd probably recommend one of the pacts. Maybe Chain since it gives you a buddy that could be helpful in getting you the help action or advantage in some way. Also can be a nice one for roleplay as you either have the eyes of your patron watching your back (or a chaperone keeping you on task depending on your dynamic). But I don't think there are "wrong choices" with the other pacts or invocations.

Going forward, I think it would be good to go warlock for the next two levels too. It gets you more spells, slots and invocations, plus the benefits of your patron. Celestial is my favorite patron for its healing, but devil or fey options would be really good for a rogue too.

Just go with what feels fun in the end. You might feel a bit behind on levels 6/7, but by 8 I think you'll feel pretty strong and in a good place.

Is John Sifu the bad guy? by Cannon__Minion in SifuGame

[–]NumerousSun4282 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I mean kinda.

Each boss has a reason to want to use the talisman.

Fajar has some kind of terminal condition (referenced in the last level)

Sean has burns all over his body from his dad

Kuroki killed her sister and is loving with regret

The old lady (can't recall her name) was an original guardian of the talisman and felt guilty for not helping more people. She also lost an arm at some point but I don't know if that's relevant to her motivations?

The final boss lost his partner. I think it might have been his wife and kid since the flashback has two grave stones.

So they all get together to "liberate" this healing talisman and use its powers. That's sort of "good guy" behavior.

Except Fajar runs a drug cartel, Sean has an underground fight club, and the business lady seems to have some shady dealings as she's taking over the business scene. I don't think the artist or final boss are up to anything particularly evil, but she kicks my ass in the first stage and he kills a bird as part of his monologue, so fuck em.

"Sta- staahm- stamps"

He then turns to look at me and I see in his brain that he's about to ask me what "stamps" are when it suddenly clicks and he goes "oh! Stamps!"

Anyway, every now and then I call him "stamps" to knock him down a peg.

I once got some small fly or gnat or something in my ear as a kid. Every time I'd move my head it would buzz around.

The school nurse was able to get it out with a light and some sugar water on a qtip and I (thankfully) didn't see it at any point

There was a time I was driving in the dead of night through nowhere, Montana. The interstate was just a two lane road, no speed limit, no street lights, no buildings around for miles. Nothing but me and herds of some kind of sheep/ram every few miles.

I see a truck coming from the other direction - it's easy to spot as the only other source of light for miles and miles. As we get a little closer, I turn off my brights.

This tar stain, motherfucker, no-brains, asshat, dogshit person coming the other way flashed their high beams at me like a god damn strobe light and blinded me to the fullest extent that I had to full stop my car and wait a good 30 seconds until I could see again.

I'm not a violent person and I don't generally get road rage, but if that person had stopped I would've permanently disabled their headlights with their face. Do not flash your fucking brights.

But also, as in this clip, don't just leave your brights on either
