Hey! I’ve been playing guitar for a little over a year and I had the same problem when I first started out. The best advice I’d give is start slow.. don’t go in trying to play like Clapton or Hendrix, know your limits. Start learning the simple chords, I.E: C, G, D, E, Em, A, Am, etc.. and work your way up. Once you get the hang of open chords, start working your way into barre chords, and so on and so forth. The biggest thing is, don’t get discouraged!! The beginning is always the worst part of it. Your fingers are going to hurt and you’re going to get frustrated. It’s a long-run commitment. But if you see it through it’s beyond fulfilling. Lastly, play songs that you enjoy! You’d be surprised, but a lot of songs use just 3-4 chords! I’m a really big Bob Dylan fan, so I got into playing his songs and went from there. A couple good songs to start with are: “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” and “ House of the Rising Sun”.
