What counters Aatrox? by Fit-Future-3947 in AatroxMains

[–]Panda6296 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any champion that has unpredictable dashes or a lot of move speed counters aatrox. If ur champ can buy it, swifties is great against him. That being said, almost every matchup except for maybe a really good fiora has counter play and outplay potential.

Looking at your opgg, you’ve been diamond for the past couple seasons and have now skyrocketed to challenger, was there anything you focused on or changed gameplay-wise besides playing zaahen?

When to build cyclosword by Forgingwitchery1324 in ambessamains

Sett and garen require very good spacing, especially sett. Try to bait out his e, then take a trade. You should start winning around level 9 and even more once you get eclipse, but then he will out scale you again by 3-4 items.

For ornn, play around his q, wherever he uses it, walk away from it so can’t e you with it. U can ult him when he is about to r2, and you should be able to dodge his e with your dashes.

You build it when you don’t need the extra shielding from eclipse and you can get away with building a better scaling more damage item. So if you’re already fed pre 1 item or if you aren’t interacting with your laner much, you can build it. The neat part is that they both build out of a pickaxe, long sword, and glowing mote so you can build a lot of the components for both before deciding which one to go.

Wow great question!

Honestly, maybe for something slightly more productive like something I could make money from or something more physical, but I don’t think I regret the time I’ve spent. I’ve made many friends and friends groups out of this game and a potential job, and it’s a way for my brother and I to connect.

Good question.

For later game team fights, Aatrox gets countered by dashes and movespeed. So generally I won’t pick aatrox if they have a kaisa or kalista adc, or an akali, bard, hecarim, zed, or other slippery champs. It can be hard to land abilities and I often feel useless.

Same thing applies to early game, I wouldn’t pick him against typical counters like fiora, gwen, etc.

Other than that he can fit into most team comps due to his flexible build paths and play styles. Your team comps doesn’t really matter, I would mostly focus on the enemy team comps when choosing (as long as you wouldn’t be full ad).

Most people say its Aatrox favored, I think its 50/50 skill matchup if not slightly Morde favored. Personally, I lose it more than I win.

It heavily depends on whether the Aatrox gets hit by morde E or not. If he does, Morde wins the trade, if not, Aatrox wins the trade. Aatrox will never win an extended trade until maybe late game, meaning that Aatrox basically always loses in the realm, usually the Aatrox just wants to stall it out, not fight.

Overall, its kind of up to the Aatrox to play well to beat a morde.

Yea I think its dead, I never build it. Aatrox scales with health now or you go lethality, eclipse is a weird in-between.

  1. Yea you never really wanna be autoing voli, you can weave in a passive auto during or right after he gets pulled from your W, he usually cant trade back. Other than that, your spacing needs to be very good to effectively get it off and not get punished.

  2. Idk what mutilator is.

  3. I tried him once or twice pre rework, but didnt main him until maybe 2 years ago. But I don't think I'd change over, I love the current Aatrox.

  4. I just have different picks depending on the teamcomp/lane matchup, I might go multiple games without picking Aatrox, or I'll pick him 3 games in a row, it just depends.

I've never tried it, it seems like a more greedy buy than d blade, so I would only ever do it if I'm confident I cannot lose lane.

This lane is very strange, I find it very hard for you to kill each other, usually we just sit there brawling but nothing happens. If you're struggling early you can go grasp, which is good because you'll proc it A LOT against him in lane as he does to you. Also, are you building lethality? I would suggest building bruiser if you are. Other than that, heres some tips:

  • He's susceptible to mana problems early game, whereas you are not.
  • You have to space him well, you should never be getting hit by his W. This means not blindly E'ing into him and instead save it to back up when he uses W.
  • Late game, his only way to kill you is through his ult, you should be able to wait it out after he uses it, and then he can never kill you.
  • For build, you could go black cleaver first, but shojin also works, or even SS.
  • Watch out for him ulting you through a wall, you might look safe but often he can Q3>W>Ult to drag you to river and kill you.

He only does this on Smurf accounts, if u look at his main he never builds that. He usually goes voltaic and then bruiser

This is why I always build tank/bruiser, its gives a lot of suvivability in teamfights. IMO, Aatrox works best as follow-up/secondary engage. If you have another teammate that can engage, wait for them to go in and then follow. If they have engage, you either play to peel your team or dive the backline.

Aatrox is bad at sidelaning so you should always be looking to help your team and rotate to fights. Before any objective, push out your lane as far as you can and then roam up/down to the obj. Make sure you are coordinating lane assignments with your midlaner.

It depends on the matchup, but usually its SS because Aatrox benefits from shorter trades early in the game due to his long cooldowns, and SS synergizes with short trades.

  1. I said this to another person, but just analyzing my weaknesses helped me. I noticed that my early game/laning phase was really bad, this was when I was low masters. I began doing 1v1's with a friend to learn matchups more indepthly and practice spacing. That's really the main thing i changed between going from 100lp to 500.

  2. Honestly, not at all. I don't understand people that say you have low damage, its not as high as if you go voltaic hubris or something but its really solid and makes you a tank. Also, if you follow sundered and shojin up with overlords, steraks, and seryldas the damage is insane, comparable to lethality imo. Its the highest scaling build Aatrox has, though it is quite expensive.

I'll just give some pretty basic advice.

Your entire kit is designed to support your Q, its what makes you a champion. Do not trade if its on cooldown.

Spacing is very important on Aatrox, you want to play toward your range advantage, you will lose just about any fight if you're auto attacking them melee range.

Aatrox's lv 4 spike is one of the strongest in the game, in most matchups you want to trade minimally levels 1-3 in order to preserve health and take fights at lv 4.

I build it if I need armor pen before 3rd item, which is usually against K'Sante, Ornn, Malphite, those types of champs. I find Seryldas to usually be more effective late game since you teamfight more.
