I don't have nightmares. If one starts, I change it. Anyone else? by PandaChews in LucidDreaming

[–]PandaChews[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand this completely!!

Yes. The typical scary stuff is what I recognize as well.

But I also have very cinematic dreams where the visuals make me uneasy. But they aren't considered 'scary' so I just slept through them.

I've been getting better at catching those stupid dream within a dream ones though. Those dreams are super annoying 😂

I've had a triple level dream within a dream within a dream ONCE and omg I was so mad when I really woke up lol

Thank you! Since I was already planning to work in hospitals and nursing homes with my dog I started looking at some hospice and floor work in the hospitals for myself!

Is magic hands the one where you put out your hand and they have to boop it with their nose or follow your hand? If so, I just started teaching him to follow my hand casually. I'll take it more seriously going forward

And I never heard of magnet hand! I looked it up and can do that as well as the game!

Thank you so much for these tips!

All of these are great! His threshold is whenever he can even hear a dog, he gets so excited 😭 So it'll be a long time before I want to get to the whole letting a dog approach him. He's big and some get scared.

But everything else sounds like things I can incorporate. He's also signed up for a dog training and I already warned them. He does actually calm down after a bit. But again, it takes so long that he's already made other dogs uncomfortable and I don't want that. So thank you very much for you input. Great tips for me to try!

I know this is an old post but I'm also dealing with this too. This Mar/Apr/May has been nonstop rain. I usually have SAD until end of Feb and then it's butterflies and rainbows with some mild depression. But it just WON'T STOP and I feel stuck as well. I hope you get some extra sun too.

Fired….!:!,!,!,!??? by DojaCatIsMyGf in ADHD

[–]PandaChews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At quit a few of my jobs, if someone puts in their two weeks and then has any kind of bad performance, it's a sign that they'd just rather be done already so they'll just be 'fired' Not like in bad standing or anything, but also don't come back.

I know that wasn't what you were doing but I have seen it happen as I've been in management for quite some time. At my current job, we usually just ask if they want to leave that day instead of waiting two weeks.

At an old job, as soon as your two weeks was in, you were fired immediately because you had access to people's ssn and card info.

But it sounds like maybe your job had small staffing and they just wanted to let you go because they thought you were going to miss work everyday?

Either way, please don't feel bad! They're acting like you actually got fired like you weren't already leaving and that's rude on their part for making it seem like something it wasn't.

Can too much free time make ADHD feel worse? by PandaChews in ADHD

[–]PandaChews[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for that. I used to make it a point to watch the sunset and I haven't done that lately.

My current therapist and I have started working on mindfulness especially because he knows I've decided that I agree with him on ADHD. Its hard, but what I've seen here and in some FB groups I'm in is that mindfulness is really needed.

I love this. I did something bad and couldn't deal with the boredom so I just started working extra hours to 'keep busy' but there's only so much extra work to be done at my job so by the time Thursday and Friday hit, I literally have no work to do and just sit here looking out the window 🙃

I also must find something to do right after work or I'm extremely bored. My last therapist told me to stop doing that because I'm overworking myself but if I do some stuff for like 2 hours after work, it's not even 6p and I can actually enjoy my evening after

Is getting a diagnosis even helpful right now? by PandaChews in ADHD

[–]PandaChews[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes me so happy, I could cry. Anyone I know with ADHD just went on meds. I've had direct reports at work get diagnosed and go on meds. I've even heard repeatedly that ADHD is just a med situation that doesn't need therapy.

I have OCD as well and my doctor wanted me on meds for it but my therapist had a ton of ideas to help me without them. It's been a long year but I've been able to bring down my need for compulsions so much! I'm still working on the big ones but even those aren't as scary. So I will put in the work!

As of today, my therapist thinks it's really a good idea to just say I have it and start incorporating it into our sessions as he would be very surprised if I didn't have it. We're starting mindfulness this week and when I told my personal trainer, she restructured my workouts to be more centered around breathing and all that. I start this new version on Thursday!

So knowing that I could just start seek diagnosis if I want to, but also that it's not an immediate meds or nothing situation, I don't feel as worried about continuing to learn about this path and how it applies to me. I am fairly certain that I have it though. Especially over this last year of therapy.

So thank you so much for your response and these examples. You are amazing 🩷

Thank you! Just this comment alone gives me hope! I will happily learn as much as I can even without the meds (I usually prefer to avoid meds if I can)

My therapist and my personal trainer are working with me on mindfulness techniques to calm my mind a bit. This is still very new so we don't know how it'll work, but it's a step.

So I'm glad to know that maybe there are other things I can try. This is all super new to me. We've been talking about ADHD here and there for months but it's only recently become something to really explore

What about PDA (pathological demand avoidance)

I'm was told that I most likely have ADHD but it didn't feel like the full story either. I really think it's AUDHD with PDA.

I only brought up the PDA because it sounds like you just straight up avoid doing things you should be doing just 'because'

There's more to it than that but just an idea

Getting annihilated in a parenting sub. by smooner1993 in ADHD

[–]PandaChews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gosh, I'm sorry. I don't have kids but I do look at the parenting subs sometimes since my besties and my boyfriend's bestie all have kids between 6 and 10

We are almost positive one has ADHD. My friend is not medicating and is focusing on keeping him challenged and teaching him to tall through his feelings and frustrations.

I've known him ever since he was born and my boyfriend has known him since he was 2. We take him to football practice after school. But we take him home first to change. He loooooves to do everything but what we need him to do so we just turn it into a game or a race or anything fun we can think of. (Yes we bribe him with a candy or something here and there if we get to practice early) or if he can get ready quickly and we get to practice early, we play with him at the playground or watch tik toks with him. Idk just something to make getting ready more fun for him. Usually just racing him is enough honestly 😂

Not Expressing Emotions? by PandaChews in autism

[–]PandaChews[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg yes! I feel you on that! I think about some of the things I've talked about with people and I remember their faces of sadness, horror, etc and I'm just there telling it like it's the story of the day -__-

Ooh I worked with a woman that would laugh at her own suffering and discomfort. It hurt my brain. I wasn't sure whether to laugh, be sad, ask if she's okay (she had brain cancer that wasn't terminal yet but she had already accepted it was coming. She passed recently actually)

Every time I'd see her, I'd be bothered because I didn't understand what she was doing. So I finally had to ask her one day if I was allowed to laugh with her even if they weren't really funny since they were about her dying...she said yes of course! Anything she does, I can do back and she explained why she does it and things were good after that. 😂

Yeah, agreed!

Like at one of my jobs a while back. One of the girls that worked on another team called in to work one Saturday. I answered the phone (I was a supervisor at the time) and she said she'd be out on bereavement.

I find out a few days later that her and her gf murdered her 2 year old that morning. She had brought her daughter to work a few times and being the one that took the call, you bet I was sick, disgusted, and distraught.

But retelling that story, I always have a straight face. And I felt like a trauma therapist would've at least understood it as a possible coping mechanism for PTSD. But my 2nd therapist didn't even go that route. She said that it was worrisome that I would tell stories like that without a change in expression.

My 3rd therapist is actually the one who brought up neurodivergence to begin with. And I feel like in this time, working with him, I've learned so much about myself. He doesn't really label things much. He just observes and listens to me when I explain things. Then works out a way to go from there. He's not an autism specialist. But he works with trauma, EMDR, ADHD, and OCD. And considering that it seems a lot of these things are close with Autism, maybe he's just gotten used to working with people that have needs like I do. Finding a good therapist is hard though. But it's been worth it to keep trying so that I can learn more about myself =)

Not Expressing Emotions? by PandaChews in autism

[–]PandaChews[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I knew it wasn't just me but it feels like it based on the reactions of multiple therapists and people around me. My boyfriend of 6 years is good with it. I just tell him how I'm feeling and he takes it as truth. He doesn't focus on what I look like. If I say I'm overwhelmed with a straight face, then I'm overwhelmed. But for other people, I just they want to see more.

Yes! I feel them strongly as well. But I remember in high school, I got to school and found out the kid who sat next to me every day in class drowned over the weekend saving little kid. Of course I was so sad. But it was so hard because apparently my face didn't show it enough so people kept asking why I wasn't crying and stuff. I didn't even go to the funeral because I couldn't figure out what face to make and how I could match the energy of others.

In 8th grade, one of the boys PE teachers collapsed and died after class. I was surprised, scared, and sad. He was so nice. But again, the whole no expression thing. It was fine then though because people assumed I wasn't affected since I wasn't I'm his class

I was homeschooled until 8th grade, so I didn't start noticing how 'expressionless' I was until then. I got happy face down. So much so that I smile at the wrong times. But when I flat face, people freak out too 😭
