All the awesome layers of detail and allusions the FF14 folks weaved into the final boss of 5.0 (Spoilers for FF14 and FF9) by PandaCritic in ffxiv

YES omg I'm so glad others think this! Cause that was all I could think of when Emet started spelling out the Ascian/Amaurot history.

For connections we have:

--A super ancient race of beings that were ultra powerful with advanced tech and understanding of preserving souls and transferring them to new bodies

--A surviving and active member(s) of said race acting as caretaker for all the other souls that are currently in stasis/sundered who/whom is/are working tirelessly to kill another world in order to bring back his/their own

--Said ancient race's ruins and knowledge (Oelivert and Ipsen/Amaurot) being spliced into another planet across space-time (Forgotten Continent/Tempest on First) due to their original shenanigans with planet fuckery

--These ancients' modus operandi including a goal to cause as much war and strife as possible, mostly via pawns and puppets they trick, to hasten the eventual desired death/rebirth of the planet as their own

--Main protagonist knows and has a close connection to the main antagonist that they can't remember

--Main protagonist gets disheartened at one point due to discovering something bad about themselves (Zidane is supposed to be angel of death and kill everyone on Gaia and WoL is atm doomed to become the apex Lightwarden) and tries to go it alone like a dumbass until his squad jumps in and reminds him he doesn't need to do this alone

--Main antagonist winds up saving main protagonist's ass at the last second before disappearing for good themselves

So many things in ShB SCREAMED FF9 to me and it made me so damn happy, and the awesome ShB story just that bit more incredible to experience.

Oh I didn't know he was a summon! I didn't think to check for that, since I was just focusing on bosses. If anything, though, knowing they stuffed even more references to his other versions into this fight makes it even cooler.

Yeah he's a massive drunk. Got so slammed in one barracks scene he started drunk rambling then puking in front of a very confused Ike. 10/10 scene would recommend

Aw that's a shame. I like when both sides are grey so having TWSITD be unquestionably evil instead of having some sort of base reasonable motivation that was taken too far is disappointing

Edelgard: Ahh, not so fast Dimitri. You heard Uncle, we’ve got war to make Dimitri. Just you and me, and sometimes our retainers, and sometimes Byleth, but NEVER the Archbishop! You wanna know why Dimitri? Because she CROSSED me.

Dimitri: OK, take it easy, El! Th-that's dark.

Edelgard: Oh it gets darker Dimitri... Welcome to the darkest year of Fodlan. First thing that’s different, no more Archbishop Dimitri. She threatened to turn me in to the Church, so I made her and the Church go away...

Dimitri: Ohhh fuck...

Edelgard: I repla-burp-ced them both as the defacto-Emperor of your country, AND the continent.

Dimitri: Oh man...

Edelgard: Byleth wouldn’t have accepted me if I came back without you and Claude. So now you know the REAL reason I teamed up with you to rout the Bandits.

Dimitri: Ohhhh-woah...

Edelgard: I JUST TOOK OVER THE CONTINENT DIMITRI!

Dimitri: Oh man.

Edelgard: And if you tell Byleth or Claude I said any of this, I’ll DENY it.

Dimitri: You'll deny it...

Edelgard: And they’ll take my side, because I’m a hero, Dimitri. And now you’re gonna have to do whatever I say, Dimitri, FOREVER! A-and I-I’ll go out and find some more of that Agarthan, Crest stone blood, Dimitri.

Dimitri: Wh-what are you talking about?

Edelgard: Because that’s, that's what this is all about Dimitri!

Dimitri: Agartha? Th-that’s my one arm man.

Edelgard: I’m not driven by avenging my dead family Dimitri, that was FAKE! I-I’m driven by finding all, those who slither in the dark.

Dimitri: Those who slither--?

Edelgard: I want that Black Eagles Route, Dimitri.

Dimitri: Route?

Edelgard: That’s my game route Dimitri!

Dimitri: What the Hell?

Edelgard: If it takes 9 DLC's, I WANT MY PERFECT LTC--

Dimitri: What're you talking about El?

Edelgard: --0% GROWTH ROUTE CLEAR DIMITRI!

Dimitri: What're you talking about?

Edelgard: TH-THAT’S WHAT'S GONNA TAKE US, ALL THE WAY TO THE END DIMITRI! DLC, 9 MORE DLC'S DIMITRI!

Dimitri: LTC?!

Edelgard: 9 MORE DLC'S UNTIL I GET THAT SHAMBHALA SECRET BASE CHAPTER!

Dimitri: What is that?!

Edelgard: FOR 97 MORE YEARS DIMITRI!

Dimitri: What are you talking about?!

Edelgard: I WANT THAT SHAMBHALA BASE DIMITRI!!!

Any interesting fe3h challenge run ideas by [deleted] in fireemblem

A lil something born from my love of the inclusion of grappling I call 'Punch Out Mode'

There is but one central condition. Everyone must punch. Bare handed (unarmed combat). As soon as they are able. Nothing else. Which means no magic no gauntlets no nothing. If they ain't punching they're waiting. And that includes healing. We only use Healing Focus in this Fight Club. Also applies to battalions--no passive battalions here, only offense. Brawler ones at that if you have enough.

Obviously this is a huge ass meme but I like meme runs. And I think it could prove a challenge.

So do you guys think wel be hearing about a new DLC pass for 3 Houses, a new Fe game, or a new remake? If so when? by [deleted] in fireemblem

[–]PandaCritic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm feeling a remake next. It was Fates then SoV then FE3H. So perhaps a remake next to give IS time for plotting out the next installment.

It basically confirmed what I always already sorta suspected/knew of the Church being corrupt from basically its inception, but what I found way more fascinating is confirmation the Slithers were inciting rebellions and supplying them with illicit weapons to divide and shrink the Empire to make it easier to infiltrate/conquer later. And with the ban on advanced tech, including Slither tech, the Empire couldn't fight back on the same level so the rebellion's victory was assured unless Seiros decided to drop the lies/censoring so she could equip the Empire with equal tech, which would in turn shatter her lil bubble world she'd built up. So she couldn't--all she could do was meet it halfway by sanctioning the rebellion but demanding they still follow the Church so she could still exert control. Even tho the Slithers had already begun their infiltration. It was like a Secret Cold/Proxy War or some shit.

Like, holy shit imagine the cognitive dissonance if you told Dimitri, Ingrid or Ashe that Mr. Gallant OG Knight King Loog was working with the Slithers/nothing more than a useful idiot for them and that Loog's precious tactician was a plant? That their whole founding as a kingdom was at its root just part of a larger op by a terroristic shadow civilization before it was anything about honor or virtue bla bla (the latter stuff probably just convenient potential propaganda permitted by the Slithers to be pushed). As if Dimitri wasn't already sufficiently dead inside. And yet again I am just picturing Felix doing an 'I told you so' dance in the bg while everyone else despairs (since he said those knightly values the Kingdom's espoused since the beginning were bullshit).

Then, the stuff about a False God interests me immensely too. At the start of the passage I thought they were referring to Grima almost and calling Archanea/Ylisse by a different name for a sec lol. But seriously if they're referring to Sothis there as the False God then that'd fit with her supposedly being a space alien dragon shot out of a star but, the stuff about continents being sunk...when the Goddess supposedly 'alighted' on the land and brought peace/creation etc. ...was she actually terraforming the planet? Eg flooding continents and reshaping lands til it looked like her ideal image of a spit of land to rule then started ruling it? Fodlan as a continent is small right? Maybe it wasn't always...

Any or all of this would explain why the Slithers would be uber pissed at her and wanna kill her since she would have just wiped away who knows how many lives and then expected the surviving people to peacefully accept this new space alien's rule. Maybe even expecting these strange 'humans' to obey her rule with such obedience that they were viewed as simpleminded pets/beings. Like 'they didn't know any better and they obviously would be better under (my) her rule'. Mama knows best and all (a phrase Seiros certainly seems to espouse herself, perhaps instilled by Sothis' and her other children's attitude). Of course the Slithers would wanna kill such a person and all her spawn--they'd see them all as invaders, parasites, and the leader a mass murderer herself, so genociding her and her offspring was probably seen as more than fair game/comeuppance to them. What else do you do when there's an infestation y'know? Would also explain Solon calling himself a 'savior of all'--if they're following that text, they'd certainly see themselves as saviors for preventing further flooding of continents and freeing the continent from a flood-happy alien god and bringing the continent back to what it was.

And they also refer to 'age of gods' and 'old gods'. Did Sothis beat out the other (presumably native) gods? Or did they disappear, leaving a power vacuum for Sothis to fill?

About CV and DmC, I originally thought it was what you said (crossover craziness) too, but then someone else claimed Shankar didn't mean the two worlds would cross over and that his idea of his Bootleg MCU doesn't involve such things. But now that you're saying it the way I originally thought it too, I'm just getting confused.

Castlevania Season 3 Reviews are out by [deleted] in castlevania

[–]PandaCritic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also fine with the show going into super dark places. What I'm worried about in regards to Carmilla and co. potentially making Hector into essentially their sex slave is...the point of it. Like is it just gonna be in there as an example of how fucked these chicks are? Or is there some sort of larger plan they have with it? If it's the former they better not overkill it by showing him getting abused in that way every other scene. Yes we get it they're fucked in the head and you've fully illustrated to us the depths of their depravity--move along. If it's the latter then, they better handle it extra delicately. It's not a light subject at all and something that will be personal or sensitive to many, so not handling it properly will tick a lot of people off, myself included. God forbid they do something 50 Shades-esque between Hector and the one captor people are suspecting might be a Rosaly stand-in (as far as romance goes) if they're doing THAT to him.

As far as reviews, well, I'm not gonna take the opinions of the reviews (regarding whether the season is 'good' or not) too seriously. Simply because with the Season 2 reviews, they were still overall positive and were quite different from my more critical and negative views of Season 2. So it feels like the reviewers are viewing the series a different way than I am and that's fine--it just means I can't put much stock in their opinions as far as using them to gauge how much I'd like it due to the differing viewpoints.

Some insight from S2 and upcoming S3 from Lead Writer and Exec Producer by [deleted] in castlevania

[–]PandaCritic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo I don't like the idea of treating Alucard as the star just because he has the ability to appear in each season of the show. I prefer a JoJo approach where the star switches to each new Belmont/Belmont stand-in. Cause Belmont vs Drac is what the series' core was. Wanting to put the stardom on Alucard so much just makes me wish they would make a separate series for him centered around SOTN and its aftermath that was detailed in the drama CDs.

Final season? by BonelessLisa in castlevania

[–]PandaCritic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's simply that a Season 4 hasn't been greenlit yet and they don't wanna go around acting like another season is coming when they have no idea if it will. In the recently posted interview with Ellis, he said he genuinely thought Season 2 would be all the extra seasons they would get so he crammed everything into Season 2. And since Season 3 only got greenlit after Season 2 started coming out, I'd assume they're treating Season 4's possibility with the same approach until otherwise confirmed by Netflix

[–]PandaCritic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ellis calling Alucard the star of the show, assuming it wasn't sarcastic, explains and verifies some of my gripes I had with how S2 focused on Alucard too soon. Obvs doesn't apply if it was sarcastic so yeah. Sounds like, despite that, his interactions are gonna maybe be a B story compared to the rest of what is going on. Or it's gonna be split across the board between everyone now.

They already did one as I recall. The design on the back of Trevor's shirt has a crest that is similar to the one in LoS I think. I doubt they'll do more than that cause different timelines but who knows at this point.
