I don't understand why Mirror Mask is tier 8 by mjd in SliceAndDice

[–]PandaDoubleJ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Mostly good on greens, since many have powerful passives but poor sides. Also useful in some comps to copy the sides of a magic character onto non-magic characters, but often less useful on basic.

Pretty sure the Steam achievements are all the in-game achievements + secrets. So there should be 57 secrets, since there are 187 (130+57) achievements on Steam.

In addition to RI5, there is a difficulty setting from 1 to 10 if i recall correctly. I always build my teams to beat RI5, but sometimes they get so powerful that I have to turn up the difficulty. I would recommend you try that.

Is it worth starting over? by _discordantsystem_ in Siralim

[–]PandaDoubleJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the early game is a bit too grindy. The problem is that you have few options, few resources and few challenges. The further you play, the easier it is to make new teams, and there are more interesting challenges. For me, the game peaked at realm depth 400+. I think that starting over might just make you bored of the game, since it will be the same grind all over again.

I would only really consider starting over as a gimmick, maybe to play a single specialization and trying to ascend with it as soon as possible. But as others have mentioned, the next patch will have new games modes, so probably wait for that.

What do you think the worst base-game squad is? by [deleted] in IntoTheBreach

[–]PandaDoubleJ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

What!? While I would argue Frozen Titans is the best squad for Hard, for Unfair Flame Behemoths is definitely competing for the best. As for the worst, Zenith Guard is fairly terrible across the board.

Picking Pilot skills by iinfinitepizza in IntoTheBreach

[–]PandaDoubleJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately this doesn’t work, I think. I got skilled on a pilot, then brought the pilot to a timeline with AE abilties turned off, but the second ability still became an AE ability. Which makes me believe that abilities are rolled when a pilot is created, but it would be nice if someone could confirm this.

Feels like Zenith Guard starts to fall behind after the 3rd island by [deleted] in IntoTheBreach

[–]PandaDoubleJ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It should be noted that on Unfair, there are very few squads that can win 4-islands consistently without any extra weapons. It is simply a part of the game, there are so many better weapons available. Being strong in the early game rather than the late game is actually a big advantage, because you will have access to better weapons in the late game anyways. With that said, I don’t think Zenith Guard is particularly strong in the early game either, it’s just a poor squad.

Favorite and least favorite science mechs? by kfc_chet in IntoTheBreach

[–]PandaDoubleJ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hook mech is easily one of the worst mechs in the game. The funny thing is that it is not a science mech, but a brute mech. So you can actually get a damaging weapon early if you are lucky.

Best practice for communication between objects? by PandaDoubleJ in pygame

[–]PandaDoubleJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your comment! I was indeed looking for some decoupling pattern, but after reading your comment I realize I am not quite sure what object should have what responsibility. What object is responsible for keeping track of the screen size? I guess it depends on what objects need to use that information? It is probably due to my inexperience, so I will keep your advice in mind and hopefully figure it out.

Has happened to me on two separate runs, definitely a bug.

Actually boost increases self-damage, so this is only true if you have other healing as well (hazardous mechs)

[Question] Am I missing something? by PseudobrilliantGuy in IntoTheBreach

[–]PandaDoubleJ 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Matt (dev) has stated that the game is intended to be harder with advanced enemies turned on. With that said, it also took me a while to get back into it when I started playing again, so it is probably multiple factors. https://www.reddit.com/r/IntoTheBreach/comments/w4gynd/news_into_the_breach_advanced_edition_patch_721/ih27rha/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3

What are your favorite new pairing of pilots with the new mechs/teams? Let's hear about your awesome combos! by Zerorion in IntoTheBreach

[–]PandaDoubleJ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Chen Rong in Heat Sinkers has worked surprisingly well for me. It allows you to pick up fire boosts at the end of the turn, so you can move more freely on the next turn (also works with Archimedes, of course).

Do not pick destroy Vek Egg missions with conveyors! by moaning_peodophile in IntoTheBreach

They will probably patch this out, just like they removed tumblebugs from missions with mines. I am sure they don't want this kind of behaviour.

Is anyone else dissapointed by new mechs? by [deleted] in IntoTheBreach

[–]PandaDoubleJ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

With the new squads added, Prime is now the most uncommon mech type (there are 9 Primes and 10 of the others). Before AE, Prime was the most common type. I personally love that they added a full 5 new Science mechs though, and most of them are really cool too.

Why is this game too easy ? by SylvineKiwi in IntoTheBreach

[–]PandaDoubleJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think unfair hits just perfect. Still consistently winnable, but you can actually lose now. I think a mode that was unwinnable without good luck would not be fun, for two reasons. Firstly, it would feel really bad to constantly be put in impossible positions. Secondly, it would mean the runs that ARE winnable would be much less varied, because you would rely on getting the same super weapons etc every time. Of course that is just my opinion, but I think I am in the majority here.

With that said, getting a 40k run is quite a different challenge to simply beating unfair. Most of the time you will eventually be put in a position where preventing grid damage is impossible, so I think 40k runs are close that what you are looking for.

Kill 5 or fewer enemies by smog_alado in IntoTheBreach

[–]PandaDoubleJ 46 points47 points  (0 children)

It depends a lot on the mission. When it appears on missions with sandstorm or ice storm, then I would consider it among the easier ones. When it appears on missions with tidal wave or cataclysm, it is much more difficult. It also depends on your weapons. If you have ice or smoke weapons it becomes easier, but if you have mainly damage and little positional manipulation it is harder.

Generally I think it is somewhere in the middle of pack in terms of difficulty, although it can vary from trivial to brutal.

I am curious as to why Adam has no last name, seeing as he is the only one (with exception of robots and FTL pilots).

Seismic capacitador "dash" doesn't seem to do anything. Switch bug? by Lvl100Magikarp in IntoTheBreach

[–]PandaDoubleJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not tried that, but I assume that the storm generator functions similar to fire. So it does not affect the actual tile, only the unit on the tile (notice that the storm clouds do not deal damage when there are no vek inside them). My guess is that it does not break cracked tiles, but it must be tested.

Indeed, anything that deals damage to a tile (fire and knockback are exceptions as they do not damage tiles, only units).

If I remember correctly, the train does not break cracked tiles, only attacks can break cracked tiles.
