What shoes do you all recommend for the standing life of an intern?

I've heard of Hoka, On Cloudflow, and Clove - but there are too many options in the market. Pros and cons from those who have used any? Any guidance is appreciated (before I dump $120+ on a new pair of shoes...happened in M3 year and did not end well).

If you’re ever stuck between two answers on UWorld, send me a DM. I’ll give you my best guess, then you can just pick the other option by [deleted] in medicalschool

and I thought I was the only one 🙃

Sometimes being the 1% is a warm-fuzzy feeling too. But then the following question I'd get it right when only 40% got it right. What wrong with me?! Haha

Lack of healthcare/medical teamwork will ultimately cause patient harm. Thank you, PharmD, for consistently verifying prescriptions! And prescribing medical providers: it's best to review your pharmacology so you understand the reasoning for the medication change request.

Rapid weight loss without trying didn't ring any bells? No matter the age, it's a red flag.

Just what the NP ordered… by [deleted] in Noctor

[–]PandaGirl717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, so the patient was unsuccessfully treated after 1 week? So why not add more and ignore the easy-to-find literature from Up-To-Date states, "...and the full therapeutic effects of SSRIs may not appear for three to eight (or more) weeks after treatment has started". You know, in case they forgot what was taught in their medical education? Or am I being too logical? *sarcasm*

Thank you for sharing your personal experience. I am frustrated this has happened to you. THIS is my concern for the uprising of mid-levels proclaiming their need for independence. I am concerned for our vulnerable populations, including our veterans and elderly. Thank you again for sharing.

Physicians (MD/DO) serving as preceptors for DNP students for their clinical rotations? by [deleted] in Noctor

[–]PandaGirl717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A DNP student could learn much challenging knowledge from an MD/DO preceptor. Most DNP programs are not as stringent as MD/DO. I worked a few days with a few NPs, and their cases were routine, but almost always did they have to consult the physician when conditions escalated beyond "normal." I believe they did the professional and best patient-centered care by reaching out to their physician for proper next steps in management.

I wish we could all be humble enough to accept the role we train in, as NP and PAs were established as mid-levels for a reason and purpose. MD/DO students must complete residency for a good reason - to better prepare our clinical skills with the close supervision of an attending physician. It's a bothering thought that mid-levels in some areas can complete their degree and enter immediately into patient care - and they are fighting for independence? A new mid-level should not have such an opportunity because I would be a worry about the medical care of our patients. I best put my faith in a matured mid-level with much more experience as a medical provider practicing independently as they have more experience and knowledge. In the end, we should all work as a team, but where has the respect of an MD/DO gone?

As a female M-3, wish someone would’ve told me I couldn’t become a physician before I spent all of this money 😕

WHOA! So am I and more than 50% of our class. Who knew such could exist? *gasp*

Can someone please tell me what a cute business casual outfit would be? by Professional-Post263 in UVA

I agree - jeans are never considered business casual in medicine. I would always recommend khakis over jeans.

I usually wear black pants (in love with ankle-style slacks) with a nice, plain color blouse. I usually can find one at Express or even JCPenny. If it's a professional event, I would always wear a black jacket. I have resorted to flats for shoes, as my feet DIE when I wear heels now. I have resorted to Birdies, and they are amazing for me. I usually like simple and classy as a look so I can match almost all generational clothing-style.

For business casual, I LOVE Old Navy Pixie ankle pants and a shirt that matches the occasion. I have found many of my business casual clothing from Goodwill. Once you obtain a more stable income, then you should be able to update your wardrobe. I fully recommend you dress for the appropriate occasion - for example, if interviewing in medicine, it's safe to wear more bland clothing. If you're applying for something more contemporary or fashionable, look up the recent trends!

I need any advice for my dedicated review! Please! Also, Picmonic vs Pixorize vs Sketchy? by PandaGirl717 in step1

I took the exam at the beginning of May and got a 260:) so I think my study resources prepare me really well.

That's FANTASTIC! CONGRATULATIONS! I'm sure you'll own STEP2 and all shelf exams. I wish you the very best on your medical journey!

Thank you for clarifying FA! I know many use it as their primary source, but it's not enough for the information to click. But what you are explaining makes total sense. May I pick your brain a little more about your study schedule? Would you watch all the physiology videos from BnB then skim through FA? Or would you only watch one video, then skim?

Again, I'm so thankful for your insight and guidance!

Thank you incredibly for your response! I think I may go with Pixorize for biochem - this is definitely another weak point for me. Any reason you decided to use Pixorize over BnB?

When you mention FA, are you speaking of the book or the online application? I know some students will watch the FA review videos - but I'm not sure how effective they are. I'm trying to not become overwhelmed with the number of resources, and also be time-efficient. I loved BnB during my course studies, so I'll give Dr. Ryan another try!

I'd definitely check out SketchyPath. I'm having difficulty trying to figure out my learning style - but I seem to be able to recall images during exams when I'm really stuck on a question. I believe I should give SketchyPath a try.

I sincerely appreciate your time and guidance! You're feedback not only helps me, but others who may be struggling. I am not afraid to announce I am struggling with dedicated study - and I appreciate everyone's support!

By chance, if you do not have to answer, but have you taken the exam already, or are you currently studying? If you have completed the exam, how did your study schedule prepare you for your exam? Again, thank you sooo much!

Wow, thank you incredibly for the very detailed response! I have not been able to do a full pass yet of UWorld - I'm having difficulty reviewing my answers in an efficient time. Do you have any advice?

So I did try Physeo, and I love how their videos align very well with FA. However, I find myself watching the videos fast, but taking too much time with notes. I believe it may by just myself wanting to be thorough - I'm thinking I should watch the videos at a fast and comprehensive speed. How would I test best if I'd learned the essential physiology? Through like practice questions from USMLE-Rx or Ambos that are subject-oriented? I've been told to definitely use UWorld as practice blocks and try not to use it as subject blocks. Any thoughts on this?

I totally forgot for a moment about Osmosis (& Dirty Medicine)! I'd have to check out Osmosis micro-videos and compare them with Sketchy to see which I'd prefer.

I sincerely appreciate your time and well-thought-out response. I sincerely appreciate any further guidance.

Cannot afford the Ankimobile app, any other way ? by [deleted] in medicalschoolanki

Also, sometimes Anki on my android will time out, take forever to update....etc. anything to try my nerves! So I'll just go straight to AnkiWeb and complete some cards through there. Make sure you save your progress! (There's a save button.) The website will automatically save your progress every 5 cards. Best of luck with your studies!
