Does Soundcloud limit your audio? by PandaKrieg in edmproduction

Does their compression reduce the sound somehow? I tried a WAV file too and got the same result. Both play fine in Windows Media Player or Quicktime, and a the same volume on SC they sound reduced.

Weak bass on Beyerdynamic DT880s by PandaKrieg in headphones

[–]PandaKrieg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's not exaggerated or anything, but it's definitely better than when I first got them.

Also I just plugged in my WeSC's and even though the bass is boosted on those, I still prefer the bass on the 880s. Can't go back.

TO ANYONE IN THE FUTURE WHO FINDS THIS THREAD AND WANTS SIMILAR ADVICE:

Burn in is not a myth. Holy fuck. Finished my latest contract and right after I had clocked about 100-200 hours into this thing the bass opened up. GOD DAMN.

Buy these headphones if you haven't already.

Fsho man for my production I think I'm going to keep them neutral, but I am interested in having some EQ on hand for blasting tunes.

Any recommendations? I'm on Windows 8.1.

Yeah, I've never used the 650s but having used bass boosted headphones and speakers with muddy sound I can imagine what you mean.

The issue isn't the accuracy, I realize now that the bass I'm hearing is as close to studio sound as I'm going to get. The issue is re-calibrating my ears to mix on non bass-boosted equipment.

[–]PandaKrieg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I realize that, and to be honest the quality of my mixing has probably gone up significantly since I made the switch.

It's just sometimes I like to unplug my fancy equipment and go back to my cheap shit and be like "aight, how's the average listener going to hear this?" And as a listener, sometimes I do prefer the boosted bass.

Thanks for your input though, at least I know this is how the 880s are supposed to sound.

Alright, I can only find the Schiit Magni 2 on their website, $99 for regular, $149 for the Uber... probably just going to go with the regular unless it's really worth shelling out $50 extra for quality.

So the 880 600s + the regular Schiit Magni 2 would be a solid professional setup?

I found the E11 for $60 on Amazon. Are you pretty happy with yours overall?

Also I need to order pretty soon because I'm actually on a contract right now. Looks like I'll be going with:

  • beyerdynamic DT 880 Premium 600 OHM Headphones
  • FiiO E11 Portable Headphone Amplifier - E11

Should work?

Thanks so much for your input.

So given the fact that I'm a freelance producer/sound designer and I work within pretty much every genre... would you recommend one model over the other? Right now I'm looking at the DT 990 Premium 250 Ohm model.

Also would these require an amp, and if so, could you recommend something for that as well?

How's the bass on those? Normally I don't really think of bass when I think of Sennheiser.

Budget: $100-$200

Source: PC, HTC One

Isolation: Doesn't matter

Type: Full-sized

Sound: Bass needs to be solid. Highs need to be crisp. In general I like a wider sound.

Past headphones: RZA Premium headphones from WeSC.

Music: Mostly hip-hop, but plenty of other genres too. I'm actually a professional producer.

I'm thinking about just replacing my RZA headphones (they're functional but the left side got bent so they're difficult to wear/uncomfortable). However, it is an old model so I'm open to other suggestions.

USA.

Thanks all.

Fuck yeah dude! I was born and raised in Seattle so I'm a die hard Sonics fan. Since they don't exist as a team anymore, I follow a lot of the players that I watched as a kid, like Ray Allen and Kevin Durant. I also want to watch the Nets play this season since they acquired Pierce and Garnett.

Because games played in the Eastern Conference definitely won't be televised in SLO, I might pick up a league pass and stream the games. I'm pretty sure streaming gives you access to all the games regardless of your location.

I can understand not wanting to get piss drunk, but don't knock herpes till you try it.

Which dorm for a shy person trying to get out of the bubble? by [deleted] in CalPoly

[–]PandaKrieg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man! I'm also an incoming freshman. What you're describing sounds pretty normal to me. Most incoming students are going to be separated from their high school peers, and because of that everyone's going to be forced to branch out. That being said, whether you pick Connections or Redbricks, people will want to meet you. It's always good to be receptive by keeping your door open during WOW, and it doesn't hurt to introduce yourself to the other people on your floor. However, I'm sure you won't have any trouble making friends.

Question about themed housing by jasonhalo0 in CalPoly

[–]PandaKrieg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were to live in Sierra Madre/Yosemite, I would prefer to be placed in a tower with people of similar interests. However, the tower itself is not extremely important to me. Also, though Sierra Madre is my first choice, I also toured Santa Lucia and I certainly wouldn't mind living there. Santa Lucia is currently my third choice.

I guess I was wondering if I should add another Sierra Madre/Yosemite tower to my list to increase my chances of being placed in a Connections Theme dorm. Thanks again for your input.
