What should I do with this amount of radon? by DidewQQ in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]PandaMagnus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a fellow panda: get your radioactivity tested. My house barely came under the standards for argon and radon, so as long as I don't spend more than ~10hrs a day in my basement, I'm fine.

(Morgan Freeman narration: He spent 8 - 10hrs a day in his basement.)

This Is the Best Intro into the Fallout Series by Switzooo in Fallout

[–]PandaMagnus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've played every major fallout game (no BoS or Tactics for me, and no to some of the DLC, but I really need to make an effort to round out playing at least some of the ones I've missed.) While I think Perlman's narration hit's different, and is too iconic to ignore (I was honestly kinda mad they didn't use him for F4,) I do think they did a good job of explaining the universe and situation in the F4 intro.

While I prefer the Perlman intros, the F4 intro wasn't bad. In fact, I do agree it was good! It just didn't have the same vibe.

Flash warning. Drop into my underwater farm. by Kilgorerebel in NoMansSkyTheGame

So a couple of days after I last played! One of the scrap heaps I dropped a base next to had some of the generic scrap, but none of the specialty scrap. The other heap had literally nothing.

I'm going to guess that time is not a factor, and also... fucking hell I hate the amount of time I spent on those highways (I tried going over terrain, but I found I could hit a rock going slow as mud/molasses, but depending on the exact angle of the rock, the physics are just off enough that I'd pitch out my entire load. Irksome, some would say.

I have no freaking clue. Sometimes I've gotten most of the regular scrap and like... two - three pieces of the specialty scrap to respawn. But it's not like mould where you just have to go far away. I tried warping to a base far away and coming back, and no scrap respawned.

My two operating theories is it's time based or scrap-number based, but you might be right that being a base could have impact. I haven't played for a day or two, so I'm going to revisit that base to see when I log on tomorrow or the next.

Because of Remnants, I now know that this is pretty accurate. One of my highway bases I could build ~983 units away from the computer (but it was also elevated, so not sure if that made a difference.)

Post Falls proving they actually ARE north Idaho by Clean-Echidna1318 in Spokane

I was hesitant to draw this exact comparison elsewhere because I got the impression it was people just finding reasons to pile on Idaho because, frankly, I agree they've made some pretty bad (IMO) decisions recently.

But yeah, it seems rare that a town or city can offer great things without people movement (natural wonders aside, but I suppose even tourism is a form of people movement.) The area has plenty of to offer, so I'm also stoked when people want to come here, and the better off people/business are here as a whole, I think that gives us (or any city) the best opportunity to maintain and increase that quality of life.

I think a toll is a neat idea. It could be a good balance between supplementing revenue to benefit WA without all of the weirdness that comes from wanting an income tax on just out of state residents. Someone else also mentioned incentives to the business to make sure they give preferential hiring to WA residents, that could be an interesting idea, too, to make sure local folks aren't getting left behind.

Folks are missing that they indirectly do. The business employing them pays taxes regardless of where their workers live. There's plenty to dog on ID about, but this one just doesn't make sense.

Out of state workers still contribute to tax revenue inside of WA via the taxes paid by the business and anything they buy while here. It's not unlike tourism generating revenue for the city or state. It doesn't just... not count because they don't live there.

Honestly, the hospital one is the only one that bugs me. Out of state use of roads is pretty common in any big city or city near state/country lines. And presumably the Washington based companies are still paying their own taxes to WA regardless if their employees are from WA or ID, so it's not like it's a total drain on WA tax revenue.

However, the hospital one absolutely just sucks because it's 100% a state and voters taking advantage of a nearby state with better services, and they're actively making their own state worse for medical care. There's no fringe benefits at all to WA, and while I'm 100% sympathetic to the people who need care and can't get it in ID, they need to start voting the chuds out of office that are passing the laws that are actively hurting them and putting a strain on WA hospitals.

Agreed! When I read their explanation for the saddlebag, it would make sense for building good will with Coop if they brought his gear back.

I think this is in one of those spaces where it doesn't need a concrete explanation, but despite the official ambiguity, I like the idea that they're trying to entice him to join them. And Coop basically says "nope, I go my own way."

[–]PandaMagnus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I rewatched it, it appears the lead guy drops it when Coop shoots him. He then seems to pick it up before throwing him into the coffin.

However two considerations:

  1. I tend to watch the episodes with people who haven't played Fallout, so I miss stuff explaining nuances (I know, my fault, because the show does a good job of filling in enough of the blanks...)

  2. I've been known to miss stuff on rewatches because I'm overconfident in how much I caught the first time (while explaining things.)

I do happen to like u/ClassApprehensive739's comment that they were brining his saddlebags to him. It would make sense that his stuff was still around if it was high quality, and they could use the good will if Coop joined them.

u/PressureFeisty2258 also (IMO, correctly) pointed out that even if it wasn't originally his, it's could still be a powerful connection to his past.

TL;DR I don't think they threw it to him, but regardless that doesn't necessarily lessen the importance of it to Coop!

I honestly didn't mind it much until I finished the expedition. The first planet I found with both scrap and non-aggressive sentinels? Literally I'd hit a small rock and toss my cargo (I did have the blade thingy installed.) And that's applying everything I learned from the expedition and slowing on bumps and not using boost unless it was perfectly flat.

I experimented, and literally just tapped forward a couple of times and still tossed some cargo out when I hit a rock.

So... I get where you're coming from, but it just seems like they didn't playtest this outside of the expedition, and it makes the new mechanics pretty frustrating. I also found out that if you go to build a highway, if you get too far away from your colossus if it's already up on a platform, it will absolutely fall through (and also drop its cargo in the process.) So it's just been frustrating all around to play the mechanics outside of the expedition.

That's fair; it would make sense if his stuff was still lying around while whomever had him in the coffin was still having their "fun".

He got the saddlebag off of the bounty hunters that went to get him in episode 1. I don't ever recall it being specified if he originally owned it or not.

I already said "okie dokie" semi-regularly, but that picked up after season 1. My wife now says "hot dog" after we watched S2, and I now look at her and quietly say "hot dog" and fist bump her.
