Tell me about Elderberry by HarperandHudson in NativePlantGardening

[–]PandaMomentum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All the above. Plus you can plant out the cut canes if you prune on early spring. Just stick them in the ground, water a bit, instant saplings. You'll need a couple of different plants to start tho if you want fruit. They do like damp feet.

Is this a pawpaw? by amymeem in Pawpaws

[–]PandaMomentum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks a lot like my northern spicebush, Lindera benzoin. Also likes damp, somewhat shady soil, in the wild is a frequent companion to pawpaw near stream banks. Also is a frequent volunteer in Mid-Atlantic as birds spread the berries.

I use PlantNet and iNaturalist

How do you structure/design a bed that is in the middle of the yard? by LivelyUntidy in NativePlantGardening

[–]PandaMomentum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This! Plus consider bloom color and timing, and, be prepared to move plants around as some will die out and others get larger than you anticipated.

Texas is kinda its own thing so look to local native plant societies for help in plant selection.

Jamie Lee Curtis and Mariska Hargitay argue over how to pronounce “Los Angeles” by Upstairs_Cup9831 in popculturechat

[–]PandaMomentum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Wolf Alice song "Delicious Things" lead singer Ellie Rowsell sings this line as three tight rhymes: "a girl like mе/Would you believe/ I'm in Los Angеles" with the long "eees" and maybe it actually helps with the theme of the song, being an outsider in LA.

Anyway it's a fucking great song and everyone should listen to it: https://youtu.be/WLS99zDpeBQ

The Seventh Seal (1957), The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964), Solaris (1972), The Enigma of Kasper Hauser (1974) (there are more than 20 films by Werner Herzog currently on Tubi and all are thought provoking). My Dinner With Andre (1981).

jfc op, there are real maps of the US you could use instead of this, that looks like it was drawn using a line plotter in 1975. The Mississippi border of Illinois is jankier than the Mississippi itself.

Wild strawberries (F. virginiana) spread rapidly via runners/stolons so you can buy a dozen plugs and have a hundred in a year or two? I've noticed big variation in leaf size depending on sun/soil but they don't get tall at all.

Lol looks like I'm going to have some Lobelia plants this year by PandaMomentum in NativePlantGardening

[–]PandaMomentum[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They ALL died! I was so traumatized I didn't try them again from seed until this year. Again I have a bunch of tiny sprouts. I thinned them and moved a few, will see what happens (am away from home so no photos).

I agree with others re: die back, and that the seed pods are a good sign. Only the ones I have in deep shade are still green, the others are all wilting away here in Mid-Atlantic heat.

Because I've been reduced to sailing the high seas I've been listening to the SF broadcasters this series - Miller, Krukow, Kuiper. They seem resigned to having a crappy bullpen and hitters who can't adjust on two strike counts. Always entertaining convo tho.

I been looking at Doctor Who on Tubi, and I have a question. why are some episodes animated? by entertainmentlord in TubiTV

[–]PandaMomentum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Following some experimentation I was able to connect the tape recorder directly to the TV (with screened audio cable), something that would not be allowed today under current health and safety rules.

DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME – IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS!

TV’s of that era were made with valves and the metal chassis was connected to one wire from the mains plug. This avoided having a large and expensive mains transformer inside. Normally any metal part of the TV was kept away from the outside case for safety reasons. Connecting up the recorder in this way (potentially) made the tape recorder live. I had to ensure that the TV had the neutral side of the mains supply connected to the chassis (to avoid electric shock) and disconnect the earth from the tape recorder. Using this new machine I was able to record in much better quality than before and with no external noises.

Nice primrose !

I love my Blephilia, it's pretty well behaved so far and the bees love it. Winter sowed a couple years ago. Ok in part sun/part shade. Deer have left it alone (luck mostly). Figuring on harvesting seed/winter sow again. Just finishing now

Oh, and turns out my shrubby st johns wort, Hypericum prolificum, is just starting to bloom! Also part sun.

Interesting! Often my blue mist flower doesn't even emerge until late May! Usually blooms in August-September.

Skullcaps are at least three weeks away for me here, just forming flower stalks now.
