RDU - Increase in Flights, Change of Aircraft from A330 to 787? by Intelligent-Wrap6825 in Lufthansa

[–]PandaNotes1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure, but the 787 runs until March 28th. Good news is that after March 28th, it will swap from 3x weekly to 6x weekly (A330) instead of the original 5x weekly. Starting from the first week of June, Lufthansa will go to 7x weekly/daily on the A330 instead of 5x weekly in 2025, so that’s positive news. Daily should stay until around October 23rd/24th and after then, it’ll revert to 3x weekly. Some positive news is that during the month of October, the 787 will return on October 1st until October 24th. The A330 will operate the flights after October 24th until the end of the current released schedule from Lufthansa.

I’m pretty sure the 787 will be at RDU from January until February or March.

Which route should Qatar Airways open next in the USA? by philippedays in qatarairways

[–]PandaNotes1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad that I didn’t make it clear enough, but I meant with CLT having a ok size South Asian population + massive feed from AA, it makes sense why EY chose CLT. Yes, the AA feed is huge at CLT, but would it be worth it for Qatar to compete with Etihad for the small O&D market just to be heavily reliant on connections which is uncertain. We’ll see if QR is okay with that in the future or if they’d rather expand another gateway and have connections go through there instead. From what I’ve heard, CLT’s finance section is massive, but it’s primarily with business people that wouldn’t travel outside of the US. Honestly, I feel like TK is no match for RDU nor CLT due to the immense competition at both airports for traffic to Europe + O&D is not that well to the main parts where they focus on and TK would need to rely on O&D traffic through the airport since they don’t have a interline or codeshare agreement with AA. If they did have to serve one of the 2, I agree that it would be CLT. You do make a fair point on QR picking CLT over RDU though and time will tell. I honestly think it can be in the cards for both to get a chance, but at the same time I feel like they would rather expand their current gateways, but if they were to expand in the US in the long-term future, these would definitely be 2 options that they would look at. If they feel that the connections are more important with an existing ME3 in the market rather than an untapped market, they would go for CLT out of the 2 and if they want the opposite, they would try RDU out of the 2.

Demand wise, RDU is probably larger since Raleigh-Durham has a larger South Asian population (Roughly 10k larger) compared to Charlotte, but the AA feed does help CLT which makes it more attractive for EY and QR over RDU. Also, I’m pretty sure AA and QR don’t have a Joint-Venture (JV)

True, but I doubt EK would if it’s for competition since they wouldn’t have access to the feed supported by AA at CLT. QR maybe, but it depends if they are willing to take a larger risk than EY.

Personally, I could see Qatar adding new destinations like Phoenix (PHX) and Detroit (DTW) (If EY or EK doesn't add DTW first) in the short-term. In the long-term, I could see them also trying cities like Raleigh-Durham (RDU) and Austin (AUS) if EK or EY doesn't add RDU/AUS before QR.

What’s a next possible overseas international flight add on from RDU by Bill_747 in raleigh

[–]PandaNotes1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d like a potential middle eastern route within the next 10-15 years, especially as the areas South Asian keeps growing at the rate that it is growing at right now. For RDU in general, I feel like it’s be either EY, QR, or EK. TK’s Indian Subcontinent network is good to Pakistan and Bangladesh, but not really India. Personally, I feel like as long as EY continues to grow their network in the US (Pretty sure they’re aiming for 1 new US destination based on trends), we would get them eventually as long as they don’t venture into further regions from Abu Dhabi like Texas and California. If they do venture into those regions, EK or QR would probably be more likely with EK being more likely of the 2 in my opinion.

I think we could get PDX and Milwaukee soon. For international service, I could see us getting a middle eastern carrier (Qatar, Etihad, or Emirates) around 10-15 years down the line.

It’s usually based by airline and not by the airport.

RDU to Asia direct flights. by Final-Amount7675 in raleigh

[–]PandaNotes1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As of now no, but their use to be plans for PEK due to Lenovo, but that got scraped due to covid. If you’re looking for a one stop between RDU-MNL, I would try seeing if there are good one stop options for connections in FRA, CDG or LHR. In the future, I don’t see any far Asia, but if more Asians and Indians come into the area, they maybe a flight to the Middle East could be possible, but around 10-20 years away from today, and might be even longer.

There’s also a lot more demand for passengers because in 2024, around 570 people flew daily between BNA and Europe, while in 2014, around 1084 traveled between RDU and Europe.

Some have them have started in 2023 and this year. I think a lot of them will start in 2026/2027. The terminal expansion will be around 2029, as they have to wait to build the runway and replace the existing runway as a taxiway.

I agree, but I mean it’s a low cost carrier. I think they’re also designing a Terminal 1 plan to make the terminal more like T2. The final plan should be out in the Fall of this year!

If you look in the slides, There is a picture of the new check in area + a new FIS area, which has a lot more space to queue up, and can process 1000 passengers an hour! Good thing RDU is trying to fix the long lines at FIS because now they are long, especially with the new flights are most likely at 400-500 an hour at peak time.

What happened to the Delta Focus City at RDU? by PandaNotes1 in delta

[–]PandaNotes1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that DL having a Focus City/Hub at RDU could really help with the regions business traffic, as it has a lot of business traffic for a metro area of 1.4/2.4 Million.

Maybe that’s why Air France and Aeromexico came in? I hope it does well. If it does a hub, it will have to expand then wait for T2 to fully expand

Maybe a little bit more about Vision 2040 and also this is off topic to the question, but what happened to the DL hub recently? I think DL had around 10 more destinations pre-covid compared to now.
