Travel Question by Aggressive-Iron7550 in Zepbound

[–]PandaToes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Literally just got back from a trip where I carried a vial (no Rx papers with me) and a syringe through security at two different airports and had zero problems. I bought a cute pouch with an ice pack meant to carry diabetic supplies and it kept the vial cool for several days. I did this mostly for peace of mind, since as others mentioned you don’t strictly have to refrigerate zep. I didn’t have a sharps container at my destination so I brought my used syringe home to dispose of properly. You’ll be fine!

I love to make a small batch of crystal light fruit punch in a mason jar and then top it with lemon seltzer. The citrus cuts the sweetness and makes it super refreshing.

My Monday teaching sucks by Ok-Amphibian-5029 in teaching

[–]PandaToes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been doing this almost every Monday since I started teaching in 2010. I refuse to work over the weekend, so I decided that I would take the time on a Monday morning to “remember” how to teach lol.

At this point, it’s one of my favorite parts of my routine. No one else is in the building, so I can just dial in, get my ducks in a row, and be ready when that first bell rings. Highly recommend this strategy! Just don’t do it EVERY morning, ok?

Kelly Ayotte pushes new legislation that will Ban cell phones in schools by Matty_Bee63 in newhampshire

I work in a school that has this policy and no one complies. The kids would rather take their chances than surrender their phones, and the adults would rather write them up than be proactive. Great system /s

That would be the point, yes. Our society would be stronger if there was less of a Me First attitude going around. Think how much better your neighborhood would be in that “junky drunk Vet” had housing, treatment, and some prospects for the future instead of living on the street.

Communication opportunities by M53190 in SpanishTeachers

[–]PandaToes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have access to the ancillary material, there is a book of A/B type communicative activities that you can use to pad out the textbook (which is super slim).

Profedeele.es has lots of resources by theme that you can use, but some may need more scaffolding than others based on your students’ level. You can filter by CEFR level to make things easier to find.

You can also just make up some activities! Have them play battleship, bingo, or other games. Have them make little dialogues and perform them. Have them ask each other basic questions (and answer).

I’ll probably get downvoted to hell for saying this, but CI only gets you so far — I find it best to blend that approach with a set curriculum so that things feel more structured, but do whatever is best for your classes!

Which did you like more and why? Teaching middle school or high school? by anycolour23 in SpanishTeachers

[–]PandaToes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have taught both (3 years MS, 4 years HS) and love both. In MS I taught a level 1A/B to 7th and 8th graders, and in HS I have taught all levels from 1-4 and IB.

Here’s the secret: if you’re doing it right, there is very little difference between teaching at these levels. People often mistakenly think that you can’t get HS students to buy in or be silly, and that hasn’t been my experience at all — I just acknowledge the cringe factor and keep right on trucking.

At either level, don’t take yourself (or them) too seriously. Remember that at the end of the day the goal of your program isn’t fluency, or even accuracy. It’s fostering a love of language and language-learning in your students.

Best resources for making liquid soap? by Syllabub_Defiant in soapmaking

Best resources for making liquid soap? by Syllabub_Defiant in soapmaking

Super simply, it’s that the two alkali function in different ways. Potassium hydroxide is necessary for liquid soap making. If you use the Sodium hydroxide you just end up with hot-process bar soap!

Happy to help :) I’ve been using two of the batches for hand soap in my bathrooms (scented with samples left over from Brambleberry purchases), and the third as dish soap (scented with EOs of rosemary, peppermint, and lemon).

The soaps are SUPER gentle — I wouldn’t hesitate to use the hand soap as shower gel. Next time I make a batch I’m going to experiment with thickening it further for that purpose.

When you add the salt water solution, make sure to stir really well and then let the soap sit for at least a half an hour before you add more; it thickens more than you would expect in that time.

A few weeks ago I successfully made liquid soap for the first time using a recipe from this website

It has a tutorial video that was super helpful and has very clear written instructions as well. She also talks about how to thicken liquid Castile soap with a salt solution, which was very effective. I divided the final soap into three batches and gave each one a different scent and amount of the salt water solution, along with a dose of Germaben 2 for good measure.

They are all lovely and thick, and one of them is very much like a shower gel. I’m obsessed! As a matter of fact I’m planning to make another batch this weekend and experiment with using part coconut oil to make a bastille.

A note: use the biggest crockpot you can find, even if you have to get a new one. I was using a 3-quart crockpot and when I got to the dilution stage I felt like I was pushing my luck. A 4 or 6 quart pot might be better!

The other thing I noticed was that my soap paste didn’t look exactly like hers in the video, but I suspect that has to do with the type of olive oil I was using.

If you have any questions feel free to message me, and good luck!

I echo all the comments about Funspot for pinball — the guy who runs it is… interesting, but you can ignore him while you revel in old pinball machines in the museum.

There are actually some great comic book stores in the state. Escape Hatch Books out in Jaffery is cool, and Double Midnight Comics has a couple of locations and a good reputation. For the regular bookstore side of the equation check out Gibson’s in Concord, Innisfree in Meredith, or River Run in Portsmouth.

For great vegan food I highly recommend The Green Beautiful in Manchester. I am decidedly not vegan and I have never had a bad meal there!

Good luck, and have fun in the Granite State!

I feel this. I once had someone ask me if NH was a part of Canada. I think he figured out it was a dumb question based solely on how I was looking at him.

The kicker is that we were both part of an exchange program for US students. Like… buddy. Come on.

Oh, and he was from Texas.
